The new 300 is available in a variety of trim levels. This base model features the most modest power plant: an 190 horsepower V-6 mated to a four speed automatic transmission. A Touring model also uses a V-6, but it grows from 2.7 to 3.5 liters and makes an additional 60 horsepower. A Limited edition has come and gone, also powered by the larger V-6. Both the Touring and Limited Trims are equipped with a 5-speed automatic transmission.
At the pinnacle of the 300 series is the C model. The 300 C also uses the 5-speed automatic, but it is now paired with a 5.7 liter V-8. This engine produces 340 horsepower and 390 pound feet of torque. The sedan goes one step further: the 300 C SRT-8. While it wears a similar badge and utilizes the same platform, this 300 is an entirely different car. Chrysler drops a 6.1 liter Hemi V-8 into the SRT, giving it 425 horsepower. In addition to a considerably higher price than the other 300s, buyers can also expect to pay a gas guzzler tax.
All of the regular 300 trims are available with either rear wheel or all wheel drive. The sedan is built upon the Chrysler's LX platform, which utilizes several elements of the last generation Mercedes E-Class. Suspension, transmission, and drivetrains move from the Mercedes to the 300, thanks to their Daimler kinship.

Many of the new Chrysler 300 sales were based on looks alone. The base model offered eager buyers a crack at this very desirable new sedan for under $20,000, but from there, a variety of trim options could build the 300 up to nearly double that price. The Touring trim could be found somewhere in the middle, adding drive train options, an engine upgrade, and several interior and exterior touch ups.
The 300 Touring used the same four-speed automatic transmission as the base, but a larger 3.5 liter V-6 was added. This power plant boosted horsepower to 250, and torque to 250 pound-feet. The RWD version offers fairly efficient fuel consumption at 19/27 mpg. The bulky sedan was considered a bit underpowered for the 0 to 60 mph speed range, but the power supply was more adequate for highway merging and passing. Along an upgraded interior, the Touring package added fog lights and yaw control.
Styling seemed to be the 300's most acclaimed attribute, but drivers also found that the sedan handled incredibly well for its large stature. The awkward placement and function of some controls drew criticism from owners, and the fit and finish quality of the interior was also questioned. The interior was quiet and well-appointed, but some commented that it did not seem up to par with the exterior styling.

Chrysler's Signature Series badge was applied to several different models, including the 300, PT Cruiser, Town and Country, and the Pacifica. This label signified the addition of an all-inclusive luxury options package. In 2005, a Signature Series Chrysler included special 17 inch Aluminum Wheels, a power sunroof, special badging, a Boston Acoustics sound system, and two-tone leather seats.
This package was applied the 300's Touring Trim, and aside from these style and feature additions, the car was the same. Other add-ons included Sirius Satellite radio with a one year subscription, and an REC navigation radio.
The Signature Series featured a five-speed automatic transmission with the AutoStick manual shifter. It was teamed with a 3.5 V-6, which made 250 horsepower and generated 250 pound-feet of torque. The Touring model's suspension was softer than the C series, slightly compromising handling in favor of overall ride quality. This 300's fuel economy was rated at 19/27 mpg.

Like most of the upper-level trims for the Chrysler 300, the Touring package was also available with all-wheel-drive. The 300 Touring featured a larger engine, fog lamps, and yaw control, but it retained the same 4-speed automatic transmission found on the base model. The interior was also re-trimmed for a more luxurious look, and several additional comfort and convenience features were added.
The four speed is paired with a larger V-6. This 3.5 liter version makes 250 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque, providing significant upgrades from the base model. The AWD option will cost drivers a slight drop in fuel efficiency, falling to 18/24 mpg. The 300 utilizes the same platform as the recently departed Mercedes E-Class, thanks to the Chrysler and Benz connection through Daimler. Suspension, drive train, and steering are additional carryovers from the E to the 300.
Some 300 drivers have found that bold attention-grabbing styling is not enough to keep them fully satisfied. Since its introduction, the 300 reputation has been hampered by quality and reliability issues. Many of the interior mechanisms like the sunroof, windows, and trip computers have broken or failed, some requiring costly maintenance. Service quality has also been criticized, as some drivers claim their 300s are in the shop too long and some of the issues are not resolved.

In 2005, Chrysler applied the well-traveled 300 badge to this new head-turing full size sedan. There were several directions in which the 300 could be built up from the modest base model, including more potent engines, refined transmissions, higher quality interiors, and a RWD/AWD option. The Limited upgraded the 300 interior and attached several base options as standard equipment.
The four speed automatic was replaced by a five speed, but no manual was available in any 300 for 2005. The Limited also added a larger V-6 engine, increasing from 2.7 to 3.5 liters. The result was significant boosts in both horsepower and torque. The 3.5 liter version provided 250 horsepower and 250 pound-feet of torque. It was enough to bring the 0 to 60 mph time down to nine seconds, but a high curb weight and restrictive aerodynamics limited the engine's full potential. The rear wheel drive Limited offered a more fuel efficient option to the AWD version, improving the EPA rating from 18/24 to 19/27 mpg.
Owners were generally pleased with the overall driving experience of the new 300, with its slick handling, forgiving suspension, and adequate power. Service was another story, with both frequency and quality. Some owners found themselves in an increasingly regular maintenance schedule within their first few months behind the wheel. The 300 was also plagued a radiator recall in 2005, and some were forced to part with their new car for weeks. This and other issues like muffler rattles, mechanical failures, and interior fit and finish degradation led to questions about 300 reliability and Chrysler service quality.

The first offering of the Chrysler 300 was also available in a Limited trim. Some of the finer exterior and interior details were retouched to provide this upscale version with a more elegant look. The 300 Limited also upgraded the engine and transmission, and was offered with both AWD and RWD.
The base model's 2.7 liter engine was set aside in favor of a 3.5 liter V-6, providing 60 additional horses and bringing the count up to 250. Engine torque saw the same increase, rising from 190 to 250 pound-feet. The 0 to 60 acceleration dipped below 10 seconds, but performance improvements were really marginal due to the added weight of a larger engine and AWD. This 300 bulks up to over 4000 pounds. A 5-speed automatic transmission was also added. The AWD Limited's gas mileage was rated at 18/24 mpg.
The AWD offered additional security and the 300's handling and ride quality also received a boost thanks to a retuned suspension system. The six cylinder 300s did not exactly jump off the line, but the power supply seemed adequate through the higher speed range. Owners continued to report reliability issues, claiming several service trips within the first few months of ownership. Buyers of this Limited series also endured a recall due to radiator issues, and many were nagged by frequent rattles, leaks, and mechanical failures.

In 2005, Chrysler introduced the new 300 series with long list of trim level options. Most trims above the base replaced a modest 2.7 liter V-6 with 3.5 version. The 300C added a 5.7 liter Hemi V-8. The C also offers drive train options, an upgraded transmission, and several of the base 300's optional features as standard. With the return of the 300 Chrysler had departed from the cab forward design, and the result was a bold new look for the full size sedan. Many were sold on looks alone, and buyers soon found themselves on a waiting list for the C.
The 5.7 liter V-8 produces 340 horsepower and 390 pound-feet of torque. It's enough power to launch the 4000 pound sedan from 0 to 60 mph in under 6 seconds. The 300 can turn the quarter mile in 14.1 seconds. The Hemi is mated to a five-speed automatic as the sole transmission option. This RWD version sees a slight fuel economy improvement over its AWD counterpart, at 19/25 mpg.
Drivers loved the unique feature that allows the massive V-8 to run on four cylinders when less power is needed on the highway. Also praised was the suspension system borrowed from the retired Mercedes E-Class. However, many took issue with the Coninental tires found on the 300, as these tires seemed to sacrifice ride quality and increase road noise.

The 300C series offered a more upscale version of Chrysler's acclaimed new sedan. Sitting at the apex of the 300 family, the C includes a larger engine, more refined transmission, and several additional interior appointments.
This 300 houses a 5.7 liter Hemi V-8 which makes 340 horsepower and provides 390 pound feet of torque. The larger engine will nearly cut 0-60 time in half, verses the base V-6 model, down from over ten seconds to just under six. Gas mileage will suffer a bit with the addition of all wheel drive, falling to 17/24 mpg. However, the 300C offers a unique feature: the engine can run on four cylinders when less power is needed. This factors in to the car's mileage to performance ratio quite favorably.
Chyrsler has not been able to maintain the same reputation for quality and reliability as other American auto manufacturers. Drivers report mostly small problems, but nagging problems. Mechanical malfunctions and interior degradations top the list. Within months, the 300 was selling faster than Chrysler could pump them out, and the C soon had a waiting list.
