In 2004, all Honda vehicles came with a seatbelt warning light. The 2004 Pilot EX model with leather seats also had seat warmers installed. All Pilots now have an improved navigation system as well as clearer access to the rear seats.
In addition to the quality and dependability we expect from Honda, the 2004 Pilot is a very comfortable ride that's easy to maneuver in any traffic and/or weather conditions. Part of the beauty of this vehicle is its unibody construction in combination with an independent 4-wheel suspension system. This allows it to feel more like you're driving a car, instead of a big van. Still, consumer ratings for this vehicle are about 9.0 / 10.0.
Even though most of the Pilots are well stocked with many added features, the more accessories you want, the more they will affect the price. Therefore there's a wide range in pricing for the 2004 Pilot from around $17,000 to $29,000.
As for safety, the Pilot scored 5 out of a possible 5 stars in both front and side crash tests conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. In addition, the 2004 Pilot has front side airbags, though curtain side airbags in the back are still not available.

I have been using this car as extra emergency car and I have not had any issues with it. It runs great and it's very powerful, spacious and the seats are very comfortable, despite of most of SUV, Honda Pilot has a very impressive acceleration.Nov 18, 2014

This is a very good all around vehicle. It can seat 7 adults semi comfortably for short trips. When using the 3rd row seats, storage is minimal. When traveling with 4-5 people, storage in the back is sufficient. Ours has held up very well and we have been happy with how it has performed.Aug 13, 2014

me and my gramps got this lovely beast when my Thunderbird fell apart. i honestly wanted a Ridgeline but seeing as this was cheaper i decided to get this. after owning it for 6 months, it has grown on me. i use it every day for all sorts of reasons. groceries, emergency response, long distance travel, ect. overall, its a fantastic vehicle for whatever you need it for.Nov 19, 2012

A great car to take on a family trip. It is extremely comfortable with enough room for a large family. It also has a lot of cargo space for long trips. It rides really smooth and quiet, even large bumps seem dull.Mar 22, 2012

There is plenty of space in the Honda Pilot for carrying cargo and passengers. There are split-folding rear seats and even a hidden extra row in the back; just do not expect to put anything but a small toddler in these seats. The car is safe. It has front/side airbags, ABS, stability/traction control and on-demand 4WD that you will probably never use on the typical family commute. Not a bad choice if you need to go big.Nov 23, 2011

Great family car. Lots of room to put a bunch of people in. Haven't had any problems with it so far, and it has 70000 miles on it. Powerful V6 3.5L VTEC engine makes it a quick SUV. Doesnt look big on the outside, massive on the inside. Good quality leather. Fun to drag race against other SUVs in its class, cuz it usually wins. decent gas mileage, especially on the highway. Accelerates from 0-60 in 8.1 seconds. Braking is ideal. Makes a nice ignition sound.Sep 05, 2009

Absolutely a great car, but gas mileage is not what I hoped for, about 18/19 miles per gallon. The car is easy to drive, turns on a dime. Has 135,000 miles and very little maintenance. Is comfortable for the driver on long trips, but back seats don't recline. Would change that option if possible.Mar 31, 2009

Overall a great vehicle with excellent MPG for its size, but it lately developed a problem with the PCM and nothing changed when we got the PCM replaced. Interior and exterior are great, easy to drive and handles like a much smaller/more agile car. Gas mileage is about 20 city/22 highway.Aug 26, 2008

So, I drive a 2004 Honda Pilot EX. This car is simply great. It has a 3.5L VTEC V6 engine that produces 242 horespower and 240 lb.-ft. torque. For an SUV, the Pilot is quick. It will do 0-60, and to qoute Car & Driver, "well under 8 seconds," in the low 7s. It handles extremely well, also, for an SUV. It has very accurate steering and has that smart all-wheel-drive system that has the car all-wheel drive during acceleration and cruising, then while breaking, it switches to front-wheel drive. It has four break disks, one for each wheel, so the breaking is very good. There is botton that puts the car in "super" 4x4 mode, when really stuck in mud or something, or scaling a really steap slope, but be carefull with it, Honda very strongly recommends not to go over 20 mph in that mode. A very smooth ride with LOTS of room inside. It has a fold-away third row seats, so it holds up to 8 people if needed. The dashboard and counsel are very nice, there is the SAT/NAV option (i didn't get it, though), it has dual front seat warmers, seperate climate controls for the front seats and back seats, DVD entertainment system in the back that is optional as well (i do have that), 6-disc changer option (don't have that), and a bunch of other bottons that do various things as well. It is a very comfy ride, great for long long trips,and for short trips as well, from nice, comfortable, leather seats (optional) to the great DVD entertainment system (optional), to the 3.5L VTEC V6 and the smart all-wheel-drive system, it is a FUN car. Also, it gets pretty good gas milage, roughly 26 mpg on the highway and roughly 22 in the city. I highly recommend the Pilot. May 27, 2008

The car won't start, is this a starter issue?
I have an 04 Honda Pilot with a two month old battery. Went to start and the ignition won't turn. The dash lights come on and the electronics seem to be functioning normally. When you turn the key, there is no sound or movement. After removing the key, there is a quick, repetitive clicking sound underneath the steering wheel. Have not had a chance to jump it yet, but I fear its a larger problem than the battery. Does anyone know if this may be a starter problem? Or is there is something else I can try?

2004 Honda Pilot throwing P0740 code.
My 2004 pilot has had the check engine light on for sometime. Finally took it in to a friend's shop and they read the code - P0740. They turned it off and had me drive it and it came back on within 20 miles. Took it back and they did a diagnostic and said it's an issue with the Torque converter in the transmission. They said I don't have to do anything right now, but what will likely happen in the future is the TC will stop disengaging and stall when I stop, and that the only real fix is to replace the trans. I heard this is a common problem in older pilots. Anyone else had this issue? Is replacing the trans the only fix and will the dealer want to pay for it even if it's no longer covered under warranty? Any feedback/advice is appreciated about this issue!

Is it possible to hotwire an 04 Honda pilot?
I have an 04 Honda Pilot. About 5 months ago my mom tried starting it with the wrong key. Ever since it's been really tricky to start. I found a way, which was inserting the very tip of the key and cranking back towards me then very quickly putting the key in all the way and cranking it forward. That trick unfortunately stopped working today. Now my car is stuck in a small grocery parking lot. I really don't want to pay a tow fee so my mom suggested hot- wiring it. I'm not familiar with "newer" cars. And don't even think this would be possible with all the chips and electronics but, I'm not an expert. Anyone know? Also, what about making it a keyless ignition of anything? Is that possible?
