After a thorough redesign in 2001, the 2002 Toyota Rav4 arrived with no major changes. Consumers seemed to be liking the new, bigger, and more powerful Rav4, so Toyota left well enough alone.
The Rav4 is small enough to feel nimble on city streets, yet large enough that the taller reviewers (6 feet plus) felt comfortable in both front and back seats (okay, less comfy in the back).
The Rav4 has earned a reputation as a reasonably-priced SUV with reasonable fuel efficiency (about 22/26 city/highway, although again people we spoke to claimed to get up to 30 mpg on the highway).

If youre having any transmission related issues due to shifting problems on a 02 RAV4 I have done a lot of research Im found out that its the ECU I will save you a lot of money on rebuilding the trans they sell a new reprogrammed ECU ready to go you just unplugged your old one and plugged your new one inMar 19, 2023

This little vehicle is amazingly comfortable and incredibly dependable. I wish I would have bought a Rav4 a long time ago. I have always owned CRVs. I really like the Honda CRV but the Rav4 might be a step above the CRV. I love this vehicle! Oct 16, 2021

Overall, I think this vehicle is a good value. I like the fact that the back seats can be removed, and the dashboard panel is easy to reach and use.

First, the name (Toyota) makes it a good car. However, the year (2002) and the milage is what concerns me.

Nice tight turning radius. 4WD works exceptionally well; I've driven thru snow well over a foot deep with no problem. A/C still going strong after 12 years! A surprising amount of cargo space for a compact SUV. By far, the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned.Jun 15, 2014

I no longer travel with this car to keep the mileage down, but it is one of the best things about this car. Low gas mileage and the capacity is greater than it appears, you will be surprised how much you can fit. VERY low maintenance! I feel I have received all the benefits of an SUV without the inconvenient large exterior and high fuel cost.Dec 04, 2012

Over all for a +5 to 10 years car, this is a good one esp. for family use.
Not good for rainy, slippery roads.
Need to upgrade to much better power steering wheel
Has a lot of space, back seats can be folded to give more room for cargos and stuff.Jul 17, 2012

I loved this car for its reliability, smooth ride, comfort, economic use of gas. She has never been a worry or a let down. lots of storage space in the back. she did have a little struggle with snow as she is front wheel drive vs 4 wheel drive. But never got truly stuck unless I couldn't dig her out of a snow bank. Nice cd and radio system. Everything works. She has miles to go.

This is a cheap suv, but it isn't a good family car, because is too little, anyway you seat good on the front seats, but back you seat like if you are in a coupè. Technology is not the best, it is too slow and it isn't also a good off-road suv.Nov 30, 2011

cost:i put about $30 buck a week and only do the basics & it pays off.

Nice car, needs mods to stand out because a lot of RAV4s around are stock silver with stock alloy rims. Drives well, especially in snow, AWD is perfect for this car, as it's extremely hard to lose traction in snow. Not too light, not too heavy. Gets decent gas mileage, (20-22 city 25 highway), and all around is a fun car to drive.Jun 01, 2010

its simple and real. it may be an I4 small suv, but its got a punch and attacks corners well and actually quite fun. i feel like PART of the car, like i know what its going to do next. the engine is bullet-proof and at 126,000 miles+, it still runs smoothly. styling is actually fairly nice, not too cute and has a slight aggressive stance. a great car =DJan 26, 2010

Quid Pro Quo really, a powered wheel that feels really good but which of course drains power from the engine.
Amazing build quality and quite some capability this CAr has.

I love my RAV4. It's fun to drive, gets pretty good gas mileage, and handles well. It has lots of room in the back for shopping trip purchaces. It's white and easy to keep clean. I would recommend the RAV4.Aug 06, 2009

It's a RAV4....need I say more?
The acceleration is loud but slow. Braking is pretty quick but you aren't going that fast to begin with. It handles fairly well considering how I drive. It handles a hard rear ending very nicely. The interior is decent but nothing special. Not great gas mileage but has held up well.Sep 01, 2008

Just bought it, its a RAV 4 NRG and its my first 4x4. Its a nice drive, solid, with a good engine. God looking Exterior.
Not the best looking Interior, too many different coloured panels. But it is practical. Hopefully very reliable and I'll update this when I've had a proper chance to test it:-)Aug 11, 2008

It was a black RAV4 3 Dr. Bought it coz' one of my friends was driving it then. Very good car. Toyota amazing reliability. Good fuel economy and very fast coz' it was light. I bought this car in 2001, when the new fleet came to Puerto Rico. I just love it. The handling, the performance, and everything else is great. Like some people say, Toyotas never die, if you now how to maintain it. I try to keep up with the maintenance, and only once I had to make a serious repair, but it was done due to bumps and holes in the road. Overall, it is a really great vehicle. I recommended to anyone!

Where is the reservoir for the rear window wiper fluid located? Is there only one container under the hood or is there another for the rear?
When I operate the rear window wiper, the wipers sweep but no washer fluid comes out. The washer fluid reservoir under the hood is full. The front windshield wipers wash just fine. Is there a separate fluid reservoir for the rear window wiper?
