The 2.3t base model has been renamed the Linear for 2002. The same 185 horsepower engine returns. Buyers may now opt for a five-speed automatic transmission, which replaced the optional four-speed unit. The Linear comes equipped with OnStar, steering wheel audio controls, cruise control, leather upholstery, heated power front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated power mirrors, a trip computer, a power sunroof, a glove box refrigerator and automatic-off headlights.
An optional Premium Package will add a driver-seat memory function, heated rear seats, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and a premium audio system.

The top shelf Aero is powered by a more powerful version of the 2.3 liter inline four, which supplies this sporty mid-size sedan with 250 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. A five-speed manual transmission is included, and a five-speed automatic is optional. The Aero does not include the wood interior trim or the ventilated seats found in the Arc, as both are left out in favor of sportier interior presentation. The Aero does add heated rear seats, a sport-tuned suspension and 17-inch performance tires.

The wood interior accents, found in the lower trims, is removed from the Aero, along with the ventilated seats. The wagon layout adds 17 cubic feet of additional cargo space, roof rails, and a parcel shelf. Buyers can also add a roll-out loading floor, which extends out of the rear lift gate.
Aeros house a boosted version of the 2.3 liter inline four, delivering 250 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque here. A five-speed manual transmission is standard, and the new five-speed automatic is optional.

The 9-5 Arc models get a substantial horsepower and torque boost over the Linear, due to the addition of a 3.0 liter turbocharged V-6. This engine generates 200 horsepower and 229 pound-feet of torque, and is mated to the five-speed automatic transmission. The Arc includes all of the Linear standard features, plus ventilated front seats, a memory driver's seat and mirrors, a Harman/Kardon sound system and an auto-dimming rearview mirror. Wagons will hold 73 cubic feet of cargo, verses 57 cubic feet in the sedan, and also include roof rails and a rear cargo cover.
