All you moms and dads out there who cart around your 2.5 children to various athletic and social events, but who don't want to completely say goodbye to your misspent youth might be interested in a Dodge Intrepid. It combines a sporty look and engineering with a family-sized interior and trunk space that can accommodate up to six passengers (maybe even eight, if you include the trunk).
The 2001 Dodge Intrepid comes in three trims -- SE (formerly the base model), ES, and R/T. All models received thicker glass this year in Dodge's eternal quest to reduce road noise, a common complaint with the Intrepid. The SE and ES come standard with a 2.7-liter, 200-hp V6 or optional 3.2-liter, 225-hp V6. The R/T rips up the road with a 3.5-liter, 242-hp engine. A split/fold rear seat is now an option on SE and R/T models, and standard on the ES. A harness seat-belt is available for the middle rear seat, and optional front side airbags are offered for the first time in 2001.
The 2001 Dodge Intrepid is the best of both worlds for owners who want some fun on the road, but who also want comfort and easy handling for long-haul trips. The four-door sedan is popular for its ultra-cool style, its good gas mileage, responsiveness, and immediate pickup. But drivers complain of a cheap-looking interior, bad transmission, rear blind spots that hamper parking, annoying road noise, and costly maintenance record. It seems many owners have to decide which is more important to them, substance or style.

Loved the looks of the intrepid but for me it has become a problem getting in and out of it because of my age.
Very comfortable car and very good at gas.
Very stable at high speed.

This vehicle was a great vehicle. It ran great and drove smooth. It was very nice looking and clean. It was really roomy and comfortable to drive. There was a lot of storage space. Overall just a great vehicle to have. It used to be an undercover police car and had a police interceptor package in it. So this was kind of fast!! Nov 29, 2014

the speed and the quickness of the car are great love how it handles it fun to drive handles nice around curves gets up and gos when you need it to stop on dime when you need it to over all it a great car cant find any thing wrong with it .Sep 20, 2013

I bought this car four years ago and drove it for with no problems until just recently. It did all that I wanted it to. For the last 40K I've been adding about a quart of oil for every 1000 miles. I have a check engine light on which is caused by two evap leaks (one behind the motor and the other one is above the gas tank). The a/c stopped working shortly after I bought it. I added some 134a but it didn't last very long. My problem with it now is that is leaks anti freeze from the water pump weep passage and I'm about to change the water pump because I believe that to be the issue.May 23, 2013

The car is dependable, great to drive, and despite many road miles put upon it (213,000 miles) it still performs well. The Nascar styling is an "eye catcher" for those diehard fans. Good gas mileage for a full size car. Maintenance cost is reasonable. Spacious interior for full sized or large adult passengers. Seat belts are adjustable and very comfortable. Leather trim is of high quality and all seams are intact. The dash and interior door trim is solid and durable. Generous trunk space and plenty of storage in the doors and center console. There are heat/air conditioning vents on the console that supply the rear passengers directly, which is a nice feature. For a v6, the car has plenty of power to navigate quickly in high demand traffic conditions. The passing gear will leave everyone in the dust! Apr 14, 2012

Acceleration 0'60 under the 7 seconds thats very desent on a 6 cylinder car and
considering the huge size of the sedan handles like an european car apperance the
hood has been modified and installed a ram air entrance fun factor only 383 were

The performance of the 2.7l engine is fantastic, easily keeping up with Interstate traffic, and was extremely reliable, bringing in 1,500 miles/week with no failures, breakdowns and always got you there in great comfort! Mar 26, 2010

While it lasted, it was a great car. Had a good balance
between performance and driveability for family life. It got
decent gas mileage and wasn't too expensive. The downfall
though was it's reliability. We had several problems with it and

just got my intrepid fri, i am very happy with it, it has 126k on it, 2.7 litre, nice, nice ride. four door, hope it will hit 200k. one of the best looking rides i have ever had. i have had a lot of new vehicles , this one is good.Oct 20, 2009

The build quality isn't very great (small things fall apart or quit working), but the overall durability of the car is impressive (stupid accidents wont take you off the road). Accelerates about the same as a basic Mustang from the 90's, is more practical and looks less stupid. Gas mileage is crap if you try to have any fun driving it. Jun 29, 2009

I like how it handles. Its suspension is solid and provides a really good ride. It really hasn't needed many repairs except for the engine when I bought it. The cost of ownership is very reasonable. Its is much lower now that my wife and I have moved down to arizona. The gas mileage is great. Both highway and city driving.Feb 24, 2009

Overall I am quite happy with the Intrepid. It has had no mechanical problems, and outside of the normal things that would need to be replaced like a battery or belts, etc., nothing has needed fixing. It has a 3.2L V6, which is enough power for a car of its size. Due to how sloped the design of the car is, and how low-slung the windows are, it can be a bit hard to see out of though. It also has a very curved design, and so it can be somewhat hard to see the four corners of the car while parking and so on, but overall I love it!Sep 28, 2008

A great, versatile all round sedan. Decently built, decent performance. not much torque on the low end, but great passing and highway power available on demand from the 3.5 magnum V6. Using the available AutoStick semi-automatic Transmission is fun. Maneuverability is fantastic, the car corners amazingly due to its cab-forward architecture. The EVIC over head computer competently evaluates the trip and vehicle performance while reminding you of required service intervals. The interior cabin is simple yet refined and very spacious. Low points include long-term transmission durability.. that's about it, in my opinion. Jul 31, 2008

The acceleration is not all that sensitive, but in Houston area who has room to go that fast anyway? It has had a few technical issues in the past (transmission, brakes, AC, Oil leak, etc.) but it's pretty reliable regardless. I just had a new radio installed which has all the bells and whistles (Aux. port for ipod, HD radio, blue-neon-backlit buttons, concealed CD player) so that really enhances the experience. The interior is incredibly comfortable, the absence of leather always helps. Brakes are... well... brakes, what can I say, they work so who cares? All in all, I could do a LOT worse for a first car...a LOT worse!Jun 11, 2008

This car has slightly better than average interior as far as general apperance, and it functions well. The interior is well layed out and I have no complaints about it. This car does have Chryslers manual shift option which is oviously nothing compared to an actual manual shift but, as far as this new option on automatics these days this one is one of the best that I have driven compared to other makes. I have had no problems with this car mechanically so far and it has about 185,000kms. Handling and performence wise, this car has enough power for the average daily use and it handles well. I personally think that this is a pretty decent looking car, it is somewhat sporty looking and has nice 16inch rims. If someone is looking for a good, quick everyday car for just going between home and work, I think this car would be worth looking at.Jan 13, 2008

I love the space available in this car, especially the trunk, I have the front bench so it seats fairly comfortably when needed. Handles well although it feels like you really have to get into the gas peday to get much excelleration. The biggest downside so far at 68,000 miles is the quality of the trim: doorhandles loose, interior trim peeling off around doors, mirror switch repaired twice at dealer etc...Jul 17, 2007

Ticking noise from engine when car is at operating temperature
I have a 2001 dodge intrepid 2.7. When the engine reaches operating temperature there is a ticking sound. The ticking sound increases when you first start to accelerate then goes away. If car is at operating temperature and is idling it ticks.
