The 2000 Dodge Intrepid shifted things around a bit. The standard engine on the ES model was now the same as on the base, a 2.7-liter, 200-hp V6. The 3.2-liter, 225-hp V6, which previously was standard on ES, is now an option. ABS, which had always been standard on ES is also now just an option. Perhaps this is because in 2000, the Intrepid introduced the R/T peformance trim, which did have ABS standard, plus 17-inch alloy wheels, and a redesigned 3.5-liter V6 engine that reached 242-horsepower. With the R/T, the 2000 Dodge Intrepid was moving closer to the realm of sports coupe rather than family car.
The base model also saw some upgrades, receiving 16-inch wheels and a power sunroof option. Most owners agree that you should get an Intrepid with at least the 3.2 V6 if you want the best acceleration and engine power to match the sporty stylings of the car. Though it is a full-size sedan, it handles like a small car, precise and responsive. Owners also love that the trunk can fit large objects, though complain that the opening is too small get them in there.
Other complaints include cramped legroom in the front and a lack of lumbar support in the seats. Rear blind spots present difficulties. A lot of drivers are unhappy with their Intrepid, mostly for mechanical reasons (meaning high maintenance costs), including engine problems, transmission failures, and the power windows getting off-track.
4.3 Overall rating
(36 reviews)Engine -Medium strong - 50 more horse would be great- Know where I can get it? Are there any mods out there for the 3.5HO? Still Bullet Proof after 215K - Still strong. Suspension - Dynamic, great balance, very driveable at speed, even with the longe wheelbase, Big brakes. Kinky-sized tires-Oh well. Sportstick tranni better than the Chargers- Use it all the time, Pop it into directly into drive whenever... Great Roader for the $$$ - Still love it!
Well, my car is a 2000 Dodge Intrepid, and has almost 300,000 Km and I never had a major problem.
ive had this car for just under a year but so far it has been amazing. the only complaint that i have is gas mileage. but due to the power that the car has its hard not to drive fast.
Its a great car. Only thing is that the 2.7 is known for leaving people stranded. The 2.7 does an ok job of moving the car. So the extra 50hp from the bigger engines is obviously amazing. When you modify it, you take parts from a 300M Special. Basiclly its a fun car for a big family foor door sedan. Fairly easy to work on for a modern car. It translates over very well to brand new cars in terms of maintenence. It gets fair gas mileage for a car this size.
Performance - For being such a large car, it is pretty sporty. It's a good winter vehicle because it's great on gas (32+ mpg) and the front-wheel-drive is pretty good in the snow. Build Quality - The Intrepid and the rest of the LH-lineup were built very well. No squeaks or rattles like those foreign cars! Appearance - C'mon! It's an Intrepid! The aggressive front end styling and sweeping lines... you'd never guess it was a ten year old car! Cost of Ownership - Uhh... the timing belt job at 100,000 miles was a bit pricy at $800. Other than that, I've replaced two transmission sensors for $50. Total of $850 over two years is pretty good! Fun Factor - There's nothing more fun than driving with the windows down and sunroof open, automatic climate control set at 72, Infinity sound blasting, and right hand on the shifter in AutoStick... I love it!!!
