The 2001 Audi A6 benefits from the powerful engines added in 2000, giving this already elegantly sophisticated car more muscle and grit to improve the overall driving experience. Five trims are offered in 2001. A 2.8-liter, 200-hp V6 sedan is available in front-wheel drive or quattro. For more punch, owners recommend the 2.7T turbocharged 250-hp sedan or the 4.2-liter, 300-hp V8, both introduced in 2000. Combined with a Tiptronic auto/manual transmission and standard quattro AWD, these beasts are ready for any driving condition thrown at them. The A6 wagon comes only with the 2.8 V6 and quattro technology. All 2.8 trims have a 5-speed manual transmission option.
The 4.2 is the top of the line trim, containing a monster under its hood that makes accleration much more smooth and highway passing a gleeful experience. The turbo provides extra muscle. The 2001 Audi A6 is also stylish, however, offering a sophisticated interior setup, and the wagon combines luxury with cargo versatility. A Sports Package adds stiffer suspension and more supportive seats.
Owners coo over the quiet, smooth ride and balanced handling of the 2001 A6, even in the heavy turbo. While not necessarily a racing sedan, it won't let you down on the highway. The interior ergonomics and red-lit dash are also highlights. Uninformed and unhelpful dealer experiences cast a shadow on Audi ownership, as do the costly repairs.
What owners say
"Overall, owners really enjoy the 2001 Audi A6 for its stylish design, comfortable interior, and impressive performance, particularly with the Quattro all-wheel-drive system. Many drivers highlight the vehicle's power and reliability, along with its luxurious features like a high-quality sound system. On the downside, some find it can consume a lot of gas and experience sluggishness in acceleration for certain models."
Six speed manual shift may not be everyones cup of tea. I always felt in complete control in this car. For long haul highway driving I don't believe that you could find anything better. I have never had a car that maintained its appearance as well as this one. I feel that I am driving a new car.
August 7, 2012325hp stock, German auto has never let me down. IMMACULATE condition especially for an 01. The cars handling outweights its power with AWD QUATTRO steering. The only things i had put into the car are smoked out tints and taillights plus a full intake. Audi knows how to make cars, well.
July 13, 2009This Car is so powerful and handles excellent. Audi is also famous for its all wheel drive and this car is no joke in winter time, it is so safe. I love everything about it especially the turbos. Though I wish that audi makes more of it in stick shift. I give it 5 out of 5.

September 10, 2008Performance - Won't blow anyone off the line, but has solid acceleration from it's 200 HP. Build Quality - No squeaks or rattles. Standard maintenance according to schedule. Appearance - Clean exterior and interior Cost of Ownership - 20MPG Combined / Audi Maintenance. Fun Factor - Fun car to drive, especially in snow. Still looks stylish even though it's 10 years old.
January 26, 2011I love the car, 2001 A6 2.8Q. Cat back exhaust, and many others! Great car, beautiful interior, lines, everything. So far, its ben very reliable. I have had to replace the front control arms now but that is expected on these around the 100k mile marker. Also, the valve cover gaskets can leak oil but its an easy fix. And, when it snows, nothing beats Quattro, Audi FTW!!!!!!
November 8, 2008The A6 2.8, although sluggish off the line, performs decently - the top speed is limited at 130 mph - for an everyday family sedan with only 200 horses. And with elegant interior rich in leather, genuine wood, and metal, it is sure to please the senses every time.
December 28, 2007The 2.7T is the kind of car that can get you into trouble. With 0-60 in around 6 seconds, and the quattro all-wheel-drive system to keep you pointed in the right direction, you are likely to find yourself hounding around corners like nobody's business. And doing it in style, too. After years of BMW dominance, Audi is finally starting to turn out real competitors. If you're considering a 5-Series or an E-Class, don't forget to check out the A6 as well.
August 10, 2009Love everything from the handling to the acceleration to the amenities.
June 22, 2008Handles like a sports car, and drives like a bentley
June 22, 2008Sensible and confortable safe car to drive with the best sound system ever. Very stylish car with good performance from the 1.8 T engine and very good fuel economy considering the size of the car. Build quality is excellent and solid
