The mighty Impala returned once again in 2000, unfortunately to mixed reviews. Do a search on the engines for the 2000 Impala, and you will see page after page on engine troubles and stalling.
Other drivers love the roomy interior and excellent gas mileage. The 32 miles per gallon on the highway was the best for an American car that year.
SO back to our engines: the base engine is a 3.4-liter V6 rated at 180 horsepower, while the LS has a 3.8-liter V6 rated at 200 horsepower.
Some have found the car unattractive and the interior bland, calling it a rental car wanna-be. The 2000 Impala was indeed very popular with fleets, including rental car companies and police.

good car for the price. Rides nice and handles well on back road and highway. Great gas mileage and engine runs nice and quiet. Love the power and heated seats. Cargo space is very large for college students transporting their many bags of items.Mar 22, 2014

Good, Fun, comfortable, roomy, family car or even to take trips on! Looks sleek & comfortable enough to even put down the back seat & nap half way in the trunk on long tripsNot even that bad around town mileage wise because of the size of the engine, but not that great though like a 4 cyl would be. Electrical issues made this car annoying & not cheap to keep up & running and all, but if fixed little bit at a time might have been okay. Mar 01, 2014

Would have liked power seats & dual climate control but that's minor compared to everything else. 200k miles & still kicking butt on the road...that is until someone ran into me head on. Now I'm out searching for another...I like Chevys because of the performance & durability.Mar 27, 2013

if u buy one get the ls i have owned both and the ls has the best power with out haveing to get the ss handles great thinkin about takeing it to a road corse. the cold air intake and dual exhast are great up gradesJan 04, 2013

On of the best cars I have ever owned. It is
quick. This is an extremely dependable car.
Great gas mileage and comfort on long trips.
The
value cannot be beat. I have over 100,000
miles and about the only thing I have done to
thie car is maintenance, except I needed to
replace the air conditioner pump this past

This was our newest car for a LONG time. We bought it new in 2002 I believe. Was a reat car for family use. We did not have use of it for long as our daughter aquired it and drove it back and forth to college in Wilmington, North Caorlina. She named it, "Betty". Maybe because it was dark bkue, blue Betty. This was a great car for the money and it served us well. Acceleratoin was great as was the braking and handling. It was built well and we had little issues with it. Appearance was great, both inside and out. The cost of ownership was very good and the car delivered very respectable mialage. Fun to drive, indeed!Aug 27, 2010

this 2000 chevy impala has good acceleration good braking and good handaling it
also gets good traction in the winter because of its traction control tinterior is

Its a really good car, reliable, low - cost for mtc. The downside is the acceleration is not as good as I would have liked but has decent speed once it gets up there. Realiable there is a reason that it is chosen for a police car.Nov 27, 2009

Performance- Not very impressive after 9 years of abuse.
Build Quality- everything stayed together until I put my subs in it and proceeded to rattle the car apart. I also rear-ended an S-10 and nothing happened to my car. The S-10 was kind of messed up.
Appearance- It's aight.
Cost of Ownership- I'm always slabbed out when I'm driving so it's good on gas.
Fun Factor- I can't hear anything when I'm driving. (That's a plus.)Oct 04, 2009

I absolutely love my car. I had to get a new radiator and transmission but it did make it 140,000 miles before any work was needed. However, now that those two things are new, it should run for at least another 50,000! I wish it had more take-off power but it's an excellent performer otherwise. Good built car, has great crash test ratings. Fun to drive, good gas mileage, looks like a cop car. Car seats and kids fit nicely in the back seat, but no latch system. Front seats are comfortable for long drives.Jun 14, 2009

So this is my 2000 Impala LS, it has the 3.8L with a JMB Performance fender well intake and pacesetter 3" cat-back exhaust. I also have KYB AGX struts, GMPP front and rear sway bars, ZZP billet dog bones, pogo eliminators, and ZZP front and rear sway bars. As far as appearance goes theres alot so the basics are full body kit, Mezzano 20" wheels w/Nitto Invo tires, Dutchspeed front grille, tinted windows, Streetglow 7-color LED underbody kit, custom blue monte carlo ss gauges, and a 7" in-dash touchscreen kenwood unit.May 20, 2009

Performance: 9C1 spec Impala's are, in comparison with the LS and base model, a world of a different car, Significantly stiffer suspension, they come standard with stabalizer bars and HD components to go alone with them. Even at 200k, the springs on my 1st 9C1 were stiff as a rock. Engine wise, they come with the same N/A 3800 Series 2 Motor that the LS's get, however the 9C1 has it mated to all HD gear and a higher ratio transmission, that really wakes up the 3800 and you'll notice it on takeoffs.
Build Quality, Aside from general known issues with the 3800 powered cars (not so great trannys after 100k and lower intake gaskets.) Was very solid.
Appearance was average, unique and IMO better than the current 06+ generation in looks.
If you get an Impala with a solid tranny and that has already had the lower intake manifold fixed, these cars will last someone a VERY long time. 200k is easily hit on these cars.
Fun Factor: A police car has fun written all over it.Feb 01, 2009

This car has great acceleration, and the handling is amazing. It has pretty good gas mileage 19 MPG city and 32 MPG highway. This car is very fun to drive. Mine only has 38,350 miles on it, and I love it!Dec 22, 2008

Bought the car with 107k miles on it. Performes great, just put new goodyear triple treads on it and it handles like a dream. I also put a K&N COI and it just sucks air in. Gets up to speed really fast.
I am having problems with abs but its probably just a bad sensor when they changed the tires out. But other than that no real problems.

The car is amazing, it has great acceleration and great gas mileage. The handling is the best out of any other vehicle i have driven. Aside from minor electrical problems when i got it, its a great car. The price was right to costing just a little over 6000 dollars. I love this car.Oct 06, 2008

This would be a nice car for town but I have 32 miles of gravel to drive and it just did not hold up.
Pretty car but just not built for me.
Not good in mud or snow either.

The acceleration is pretty good. It has a 3.8 litre V6. The braking could be a little better but not too bad. I needs a couple repairs but they are minor. Gas mileage is pretty good for a car its size. This car is very fun to drive when the weather is nice and the temperature is good because it has a sunroof and a nice loud radio.Sep 05, 2008
