The Nissan Altima, which was redesigned in 1998, saw very few changes for the 1999 model year. The biggest change was the addition of a new trim, the SE Limited, which had a sportier suspension, more luxury features, and special badging.
The 1999 Altima came in five trims: the base XE, the midrange GXE, the sporty SE and SE Limited, and the luxury GLE. The GXE was the most popular model, and the GLE came standard with leather seating and a power driver's seat. All Altimas in the lineup shared a 2.4 liter, 150 horsepower four cylinder engine. Fuel economy is 21/29 mpg.
The Altima is popular because it offers a good value but doesn't feel like an economy car. Drivers praise the 1999 Altima for its reliability and ample trunk space. Some owners find that the styling is a little bland.

This is the first car I have ever purchased and it has lasted . It is really easy to drive, it has few mechanical problems and has great space for passangers and luggage. I like Nissans so I am proud of the fact that it is one tooFeb 20, 2014

I loved this car. I had it three years before my stupid misuse/under
maintenancing of the vehicle cracked the head.
I once got from Norman, Oklahoma to Austin, Texas with an eight to a quarter
tank to drive around with. She was extremely fuel efficient on the highway.
She seemed a little easy to spin out though, especially on bad tires.

This is can last for years; the bulit is durable and easy to maintain. The car alerts you when something is wrong. Smail enough to park in tight spots. The moon sunroof allows the sun and fresh air through out the car in hot summer days. The leather seat is easy to clean.Mar 09, 2012

This car is an old car. The car runs alright for a 12 year old. It has needed repaires but it is an old car so naturally it would need repairs and it rattles. I appreciated the way it runs. It didn't cost much. The car is very fun to drive of course it's always fun to drive a car that you own.Jan 27, 2011

Performance wise, this car has terrible Hp and torque, the handling is fairly good and the engine is easy to work on and will run for a long time. As far as Build Quailty, the car is well done overall. however it does have the thinest sheet metal which causes rust problems. Apperence, the intrior is clean and simple, nothing fancy, the exterior is nicley designed but the styles of the front and rear seem like they shouldn't both be on the same car. Cost of ownership is minimal the car needs little repairs and gas mileage is average.
This car is not ment to be a fun car it is meant to be a realistic family car 4 door good size trunk and cheap to maintain. Even with the minor repairs, overall it is a good reliable carDec 26, 2010

best engine in its class, little to none to visit repair shops. no fun factor.
amazing build quality. it has about 250k and gas mileage is about 10l per 100km.
command windows switch problems, heater and air-con switch problems.

Most reliable car I've ever owned. One of 50 sold in the US with a manual transmission. At 146000 miles it still has the original clutch. No squeaks or rattles, and a great highway cruiser. My only gripe about this car is that it is rusting...bottom of passenger door is pretty bad Sep 29, 2010

5 Star Quality / Performance / Reliability / Cost of Ownership / Fun
5 Star Overall - A Gem
Only two drawbacks: Seat angle is uncomfortablefor long drives, wide turning radius.
Still not tired of this car after 10+ years. Unbelievable that it has quicker acceleration and less road noise than many new cars I have been test driving (VW, Acura, Toyota - initial acceleration delays).Jul 07, 2010

...Not good at this...the nissan altima is a good car. So far only thing that went wrong was the alternator. Never drove the automatic so can't tell you about that one. That standard is a lot better. In my opinion.Aug 14, 2009

The Car is Ugly but it gets about 31 miles to the gallon and never breaks down. I keep the oil changed and the tires full and it saves me a ton of money altough it lacks style it is certainly a quality car that is durable and dependable. Nice.Sep 24, 2008

i like the overall look about it but i hate the fact that i have to fix my engine and fix the timing belt. but as long as u keep it in good shape i think it is a nice car to have for a first car but not as a life carAug 02, 2008

Handles nice and not bad for a 4 cylinder. We thought it was a 6 cylinder when we bought it only to find out it only had 4 later on. Probably wouldn't have spent as much if we knew it was a 4. Car dealer wouldn't take it back either. I've never really liked the car and gave it to my sister to use while in school. Could use a lot more power.Jul 30, 2008

Its a car that gets u from point A to point B. It acts up at points u may not want it to but overall its fine. The speakers for the stereo are pretty much blown but still have a good quality. The bass system in the back would be amazing if the speakers were new.Jul 28, 2008

Altima has been a dependable and economical vehicle for my 3 high school and college kids. Sep 27, 2007
Locked car with keyfarb. Lights left on overnite. Now unable to open doors with key or with remote keyfarb. Can't get hood open either. Any help on how to bypass doors or open hood???? Need to charge battery & get into the car
I had a big crack in radiator. I replaced and also replaced all hoses as well. Replaced coolant and burped system. Now it seems I have another leak on right side of motor chamber. Im thinking its the thermostat is that possible or am i looking somewhere?
My nissan altima shuts off when i put it in drive. the battery is good, radio plays fine but the engine keeps jumping. Once i try to put it in drive it shuts off. The year is 1999.
Son rear ended a car and both air bags deployed. Now he has no power to fuel pump. At least it seems like there is no power, unhooked fuel lines and pump,is not pumping.
