The 1999 Chevy Astro LS comes with an overhead console and trip computer as standard equipment, along with power exterior mirrors, cruise control and the like. Running boards, two-tone paint, and a garage door opener are among the options, as well as heated, reduced-glare mirrors.
'99 Chevy Astro LS owners say it is roomy, comfortable, and (per many reviews) very dependable. Some complain of many breakdowns, minor and major, even when the van has less than 50,000 miles on it.

upon sensing tire slippage, thus improving driver control.
AWD Astros are always heavier than their two-wheel-drive counterparts, thus getting worse gas mileage. One owner review said that the AWD is reputed to be less reliable than RWD, and added, "My friend, who owns a 1999 AWD Astro, reports after driving mine that it handles much better on the road."

Aside from the improved traction in snow or wet weather, and the weight and reduced towing capacity of the AWD, it is the same as its RWD counterpart. Owner reviews tend to echo those for the '99 Chevy Astro LS RWD.

The Chevrolet Astro LT, the Astro's luxury trim, got an upgraded automatic transmission (4-speed) in 1999. Also in 1999, Chevy Astro LT overhead consoles, complete with trip computers, were now standard. A roof rack, dual airbags, power exterior mirrors and driver's seat, and leather steering wheel trim were also among the standard equipment. For some reason, a rear-window defroster was also standard on the two-wheel drive LT, but optional on the AWD.
Options included a new exterior stripe design available in three colors; running boards; heated, reduced-glare side mirrors; chrome wheels; and a camper/towing package, to name a few.
Some owners love the 1999 Chevy Astro LT, and say it's comfortable, spacious, peppy, and dependable. Others say it spends way too much time (and money) in the shop for a host of problems (brakes, electrical system, etc.).

Chevrolet redesigned its AWD transfer case for its 1999 Chevrolet Astros. The new system transfers power from the rear wheels to the front, improving traction and driver control, whenever it senses wheel slippage.
The 1999 Chevy Astro LT AWD is almost identical to the Astro LT 2WD. For some reason, a rear window defroster was standard on the 2WD version but was an option on the LT AWD. The AWD handles snow and rough roads better than the 2WD, but is heavier, has less towing capacity, and gets poorer fuel economy than the 2WD.
Owners rave about the handling of the 1999 Chevrolet Astro LT AWD, as well as its comfort and roominess. However, many owners say it has its share of mechanical problems, including the brakes and electrical system.
