I got a 2x4 2.3L ford ranger xlt with 3 to 400,000 miles on it and we have hauled unbelievable amount of weight in it and it’s been tossed around, drive in rough/ extreme conditions. Also we ran into a ditch once and we just pulled it out of the hole and drove home in it. It’s my fav vehicle and I’ve been in it every sines i was a kid. It’s the first wreck I was in, first vehicle I drove and do much more. Although it’s been through hell in back it runs like a champ and ain’t showing signs of repair anytime soon. It’s like family and I can’t ever get rid of it. Mar 16, 2023

So the model years of the ford ranger 1984-1992 are good with the 2.9L V6 5speed stick and 4x4 , it has plenty of torque and power for the size, i would highly recommend it. I have a 1987 Ford Ranger XLT 2.9L 5speed manual 4x4 and its amazing at off-road and on road.Jul 20, 2022

like it, it's good little truck that is easy to do a frame-off resto, if you wanted, it can also be easily converted to a flat bed, or lowered to a super stance, the conversion package to a V8 is out there and cheap compared to other small truck to big engine swaps.Jun 03, 2012

Built Strong. Great for hauling and saving gas at the same time. Great interior
design. You can tow, haul or just go off road if you want. Fun truck to do
whatever it is you are needing to do and more.Dec 05, 2011

Acceleration is just as you would expect from a little 4 Cylinder and so is the top speed. Build quality of the vehicle is definitely one of Fords strong points, but I will later do a front end swap over to the 1984 Ford Ranger look as well as an Interrior downgrade to the 1984 look, after all, older looks better!Aug 08, 2010

this car has lasted me since I was 16 years old. its not fast and its not pretty but it is reliable and always gets me where I need to go. I learned how to drive a stick in this truck and have only replaced the clutch once.Aug 03, 2010

4 cylinder or automatic trans rangers suck, but not this 2.9L V6 5-speed manual. 2WD, standard cab. The little thing will pull anything I hook to it. Last year I drove it 525 mi to Nebraska, bought my friend's 3200 lb travel trailer and towed it 525 mi home with no problems other than wind/handling issues.
Engine always starts immediately even when it's been sitting in the barn for 6 months.
100k miles, everything's still tight but it rides like a lumber wagon compared to my '88 F-150 and the rear end likes to skip to the right when I hit bumps. Mar 12, 2010

My truck has good gas mileage. It runs good. The performance is good for a truck. Brakes well. handles good even on gravel. It needs new shocks. The inside is great. Needs new paint. Not expensive to drive. Depending on what type of road I am driving on, it can be very fun to drive.Sep 25, 2008

took a fully stock 4 cyl ranger, put a 351w in it and shaved everything. Repaired the frame strengthened it and had to custom install and fabricate most of the wiring and fuel systemApr 24, 2008

my dad bought the truck brand new and my mom gave it to me when dad passed and with the exception of a slave cylinder and brakes it has been virtually maintenance free..dad always said to keep the oil changed regularly and the only oil that was allowed in his shop was and still is valvoline.and it towes my boat around on a regular basis.
