1976 Chevrolet Impala Overview

The 1976 Impala would be the last model before a major redesign in 1977. The car kept its large, classic look for one more year.

The Landau was expected to start picking up the sportier end of customers, so the Sport Coupe was dropped from the line this year. A new Sedan was added in preparation for the downsizing that would occur in 1977.

The base engine was a 305-ci V8 rated at 145 horsepower, and options ranged to a 454-ci V8 rated at 225 horsepower.

While these engines may seem undersized for the bulk of the car, they are very tunable and popular for rebuilding today.
