Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So my 2002 Jeep Liberty limited decided to
be a royal pain in the as*! Thought it was the
catalyst converter because that’s the code
causing my engine light to come on. Drove to
work, drove home and back to work from
lunch, went to leave 4 hours later and it
struggled to start, when I got it started, it
started shaking like it was trying to shake me
home instead of drive. I went a down the
parking lot and it died. Got it into a parking
spot and the check engine light started
blinking. I don’t know much about cars, but I
know not to drive with a blinking light. Called
my AAA and towed it to the auto shop. Got a
text today from auto guy saying “well cylinder
#2 is reading at a 0.” Cool, so my question
is.... what’s all involved in fixing this? Is it
worth paying to get it fixed? He hasn’t given
me an estimate yet, he wants to look for parts
and prices and all that good stuff. He knows
I’m a single mom and can’t afford to not have
a vehicle... does anyone know about how
much I’m possibly looking at? I’m stressing!

This probably means a burned valve but it could be the head gasket. The cost both ways will be similar and well over $1,000. Sorry.

You need to compare the value of the Jeep (running) to the cost to fix it. I would seriously consider cutting your losses and dump it. Old Liberties are not a good transportation choice.

So just an update. Mechanic finally got back to me, and said it was a cylinder head and told me it would be about $1700... I said screw it and got a 2005 Lexus, and selling the liberty as is.
