Can the odometer on a 2010 Jeep Patriot be kept from advancing while towing behind my RV?

If the mileage advances while towing with the key off, maybe disconnecting the battery will stop that from happening. Or maybe you can unplug the speed sensor at the tail shaft of the transmission. Not sure. Just an educated guess.
