Sounds like you need a new window regulator and motor

Yes could be those, or window switch on drivers side. Drivers side switches go bad most often because they are used the most.

Actually I found a cut wire in the sleeve of wires that enter the door through the hinge area. Looked like it had been cut on purpose. None of the other wires were damaged, just a very clean cut on one wire. Window now works, with a little electrical tape and very carefully splicing. Nanc :)

That makes sense about the wire and yes they do break very clean and look like it was cut its just from the wires flexing so many times and the weak spot finally shows up.
