what could be the problem?

I have a 2001 VW Golf 1.6,it makes a weird noise like clearing throat when i start it up either in the morning or afternoon. this problem only started 3 days ago. please help.

load clicking noise? if its a load clicking noise when you start its just the vavles it means they are dry and sticking. try some slick 50 in your next oil change and see if that fixes the problem
