Reviews Summary

A base-model Range Rover Sport costs about the same as a mid-tier trim of any other midsize luxury SUV. Land Rover plays in the big leagues, which require a minimum of $85,000 or a lease payment approaching $2,000 per month. Even with such immense outlays, the Range Rover Sport is Land Rover's second most-popular model in the U.S. and far surpasses the Velar, the Evoque, and the Discovery. This is the lens from which we evaluate the Range Rover Sport. The particular 2026 model we tested—the SV Carbon—is also the fastest, most extreme vehicle the company has ever made, providing further context for its roughly $200,000 MSRP. At that price, the choices narrow to a new Porsche Cayenne Turbo, or a lightly-used Aston Martin DBX or Lamborghini Urus.

Verdict: Anywhere it goes, the Range Rover Sport is at the top of its class.

Reviews Summary

With more range, more power, and improved technology, the Chevrolet Bolt EV returns after a three-year hiatus. It also claims the title of the most affordable EV in the U.S., but is due to remain in production only until mid-2027.

Verdict: The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt EV is an excellent choice for shoppers seeking an electric vehicle that won't break the bank. It may not be all that fancy or refined, but it gets the basics right when it comes to range and capabilities.

Look and feel

2026 Land Rover Range Rover Sport

7/10

2027 Chevrolet Bolt

5/10

The 2026 Land Rover Range Rover Sport maintained its distinctive and elegant appearance, a hallmark that had been imitated but never replicated by other automakers. Its design featured a steeply angled windshield and rear window, a gently sloping roofline, and large upright body sections with minimal creases. The pop-out door handles and wide taillight strip added trendy styling elements. The clamshell hood rested atop a narrow section of lights and a small grille, contributing to a tall and blunt front end. Unlike many SUVs, the Range Rover Sport appeared narrow and tall, which was advantageous for both off-road driving and interior headroom. The SV Carbon variant stood out with a two-tone hood featuring exposed carbon fiber, carbon garnishes across various parts, and enormous 23-inch carbon wheels that showcased exceptional performance credibility. The interior design evolved from the previous generation, but the minimalist aesthetic was criticized for being too minimal, with the removal of physical controls. Despite this, the materials used, such as Ultrafabrics and faux suede headliners, were top-notch.

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt returned with a familiar look, with slight styling changes that made the front end resemble a conventional gas-powered car more than an EV. The model continued to straddle the line between a large hatchback and a subcompact SUV, with a tall and narrow stance that prioritized utility and interior space. The RS model added gloss black exterior trim for a touch of flair. Inside, the Bolt underwent a more dramatic makeover, featuring a larger digital instrument panel and infotainment touchscreen. The push-button gear selector was moved to the steering column, freeing up storage space in the center console. The cabin was dominated by hard plastic surfaces, reinforcing the Bolt's budget feel, but the elbow touch points had thin padding. The RS trim upgraded to Evotex synthetic leather with red stitching, while the rear seating area featured hard plastics and lacked padding for the door armrests.

The 2026 Land Rover Range Rover Sport offered three powertrains, each with two states of tune, depending on the trim. All gas-only trims came as mild hybrids, featuring a small battery and a 48-volt electrical system to reduce engine load and allow seamless stops and restarts. Standard features included an eight-speed automatic transmission, full-time four-wheel drive, and locking center and rear differentials. The base SE trim was equipped with a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six engine producing 355 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. The Dynamic SE trim added an electric supercharger, increasing output to 395 hp and 406 lb-ft. A plug-in hybrid powertrain was available, offering up to 53 miles of EPA-rated gas-free driving and a total output of 454 hp and 487 lb-ft in hybrid mode. The BMW-built V8 engine, available in the Twenty Edition and Autobiography trims, delivered 523 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. The SV trims featured a revised BMW V8 engine with 626 hp, providing tremendous acceleration and precise handling. The base six-cylinder powertrain was EPA-rated at 22 mpg combined, while the V8 achieved 19 mpg combined. The plug-in hybrids offered 21 mpg combined when the battery was depleted. The Range Rover Sport's adaptive dampers and air springs allowed for exceptional off-road capability and handling, with the SV Carbon trim delivering performance on par with high-performance SUVs.

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt featured a new 65-kilowatt-hour lithium-iron phosphate battery pack, reducing costs and requiring fewer rare earth minerals. A new motor from Chevy's Equinox EV provided 210 horsepower and 169 pound-feet of torque to the front wheels, with 0-60 mph acceleration similar to the previous Bolt EV, typically in the low seven-second range. While this acceleration was slower by EV standards, it was quick compared to gas-powered subcompact SUVs. The Bolt offered one-pedal driving with medium or high levels of brake regeneration, and the ride was firm but not overly stiff. The absence of an internal combustion engine made road noise more noticeable, but the stereo easily overcame it. The Bolt's tall, narrow stance and low center of gravity contributed to its agility on curvy roads. The EPA estimated a range of up to 262 miles on a full charge, with a Tesla-derived NACS charge port standard on all models. Charging speed increased to 150 kW, allowing the Bolt to recharge from 10% to 80% in 25 minutes.

Form and function

2027 Chevrolet Bolt

The 2026 Land Rover Range Rover Sport offered ample space for five passengers, with generous legroom and headroom in all outboard positions. Each seat was heated and electrically reclined, with the front row adding 20-way power adjustment, ventilation, and memory. The exterior mirrors were large, providing excellent visibility. The cargo space behind the rear seats measured 31.9 cubic feet, generous for a midsize SUV, with an available cargo divider to prevent items from moving. However, the 53 cubic feet available with the rear seats folded was small for a midsize SUV. The narrow door opening for rear passengers was a drawback, but the vehicle's towing capacity of 7,716 pounds was impressive. The lack of physical controls was a functional issue, as most functions were hidden in the touchscreen, making basic operations cumbersome.

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt featured an upright driving position with plenty of space for larger occupants. Taller drivers might have wished for more telescoping extension from the steering wheel. The rear seats were also upright, with ample headroom and adequate thigh support. The Bolt offered 16.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats, which was small for the class but sufficient for most users. A large bin underneath the floor and easy-to-reach release latches for the rear seatbacks added to the cargo capacity. The Bolt lacked a frunk but provided ample storage for personal items up front, with a large bin, floor tray, and deep center armrest bin. Additional storage options included a rubberized wireless phone charger and pockets in the dashboard.

Technology

The 2026 Land Rover Range Rover Sport featured a 13.1-inch display with software that made basic functionality difficult but excelled at managing occasional features. The Wade Sensing app detected standing water, while the 4x4i app provided detailed information on the vehicle's off-road capabilities. "Body and Soul" seats with vibrating speakers were adjustable through an app. Apple CarPlay worked well in full screen, and the factory navigation and audio interface were user-friendly. The instrument panel offered configurable layouts, and the surround-view cameras were clear. The Meridian Signature stereo was a highlight, though not as clear as the full-size Range Rover's equivalent.

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt came with an 11-inch digital instrument panel and an 11.3-inch center touchscreen, running on a Google-based operating system. Apple CarPlay and standalone Android Auto were not supported, requiring Bluetooth pairing for personal music libraries. The optional Technology package added a surround-view camera system, digital rear-view mirror, and wireless charging pad. The infotainment system was easy to use, with logical menus, sharp graphics, and quick responses. Separate physical climate controls reduced distraction, and the navigation system helped find charging stations and preconditioned the battery for optimal charging rates. The Bolt also offered vehicle-to-load charging, serving as a backup power source for a home.

Safety

The 2026 Land Rover Range Rover Sport included standard safety features such as automatic emergency braking, forward-collision warning, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, a surround-view camera system, front and rear parking sensors, traffic-sign recognition, blind-spot monitors, rear cross-traffic alert, and a driver-attention monitor. However, it lacked front knee airbags, a front central airbag, and rear side airbags. No crash-test ratings from the IIHS or NHTSA were available, but the Euro NCAP gave it a five-star rating.

The 2027 Chevrolet Bolt had not yet been crash-tested by the NHTSA or IIHS, but it was expected to achieve high scores based on its platform. Standard safety features included forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, blind-spot monitors with active steering assist, and a safety alert seat. The optional Technology package added a surround-view camera system, digital rear-view mirror, automatic wipers, rear-pedestrian alert, and traffic-sign recognition. GM's Super Cruise hands-free automated highway driving system was available for an additional cost.
