Reviews Summary

Though the Passport was redesigned for the 2026 model year, Honda has updated the two TrailSport trims with upgraded suspension and extra ground clearance for 2027. The base TrailSport trim gets the most significant upgrade with a standard surround-view camera system, a front camera washer, and a heated steering wheel. The base RTL trim carries over unchanged but is packed with tech and safety features as well as standard all-wheel drive (AWD).

Verdict: The Honda Passport is a great family vehicle with plenty of cargo space. It’s one of the few SUVs in its class with a standard V6 engine, and the refreshed TrailSport trims are now better equipped to tackle rugged terrain. While the Passport has a higher starting price than its competitors, it includes a lot of standard amenities that are options on other two-row midsize SUVs.

Reviews Summary

The more powerful RAV4 PHEV is even stronger for 2026, and Toyota has introduced a new GR Sport trim to showcase its sportier side. The expanded lineup has four distinct trims, and the electric range has increased by at least 20% over the 2025 RAV4, so Toyota has furthered its lead over plug-in hybrid newcomers such as the Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage—and even the Lexus NX 450h+.

Verdict: This is the best version of the RAV4, though we can’t recommend the slightly sportier GR Sport until we know exactly how much it will cost. With improved tech and a greater focus on electrification, as well as available DC charging (despite the charge ports changing sides between trims), the RAV4 PHEV leans forward.

2026 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid

The 2026 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid was available in a limited selection of trims, focusing on the Rugged and Sport designs. The Woodland trim emphasized a more off-road-ready appearance with its extended length, boxy design, and rugged features like all-terrain tires and a black roof rack. The Sport trims, including the exclusive GR Sport, showcased a racier aesthetic with gloss black accents, red brake calipers, and a prominent rear wing. The interior offered a streamlined design with a digital instrument cluster and touchscreen options, while maintaining practical storage solutions and comfortable seating, albeit with some limitations in passenger space and cargo capacity.

The 2027 Honda Passport presented a robust and upright stance, with large windows enhancing visibility. The TrailSport trims added off-road elements like orange recovery hooks and all-terrain tires, while the interior featured premium materials and practical storage solutions. The Passport offered a spacious cargo area with underfloor storage and a flat floor in the second row, making it a practical choice for families. However, the firm seats and high ride height posed some challenges for comfort and accessibility.

The 2026 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid featured an updated 2.5-liter inline four-cylinder engine, delivering 324 horsepower, making it the most powerful RAV4 to date. It boasted a larger battery pack, enhancing its electric range to 52 miles. The all-wheel-drive system, with a powerful front motor and a smaller rear motor, provided a seamless transition of power. The GR Sport trim offered enhanced handling with a lower ride height and performance tires, making it a sportier option. Despite its weight, the RAV4 PHEV maintained a spirited ride with improved structural rigidity for a quieter experience.

The 2027 Honda Passport came standard with a V6 engine, producing 280 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. It offered smooth highway acceleration and sufficient torque for off-road maneuvers. The TrailSport model featured reengineered suspension and increased ground clearance, enhancing its off-road capabilities. The Trail mode and steel skid plates provided additional protection and capability, making the Passport a competent off-roader despite lacking locking differentials or low-range 4WD.

8/10

The 2026 Toyota RAV4 Plug-in Hybrid offered a well-equipped interior with features like a power driver’s seat, heated front seats, and multiple USB ports. The interior dimensions remained similar to the previous generation, with clever storage solutions and adequate passenger space. However, the cargo area was slightly reduced due to the hybrid powertrain, offering 33.6 cubic feet of space. The RAV4 PHEV maintained a comfortable ride for four passengers, though five would be a tight fit.

The 2027 Honda Passport excelled in practicality, with knee-height cupholders and a convenient dash cubby. It offered 44 cubic feet of cargo space, with underfloor storage options and a flat floor in the second row. The Passport accommodated five passengers comfortably, though the firm seats could be uncomfortable on long trips. The high ride height posed accessibility challenges, but the spacious interior and practical features made it a versatile choice for families.
