Reviews Summary

A year into its third generation, the Audi Q5 comes out swinging with screens, screens, and more screens in an attempt to hold its position as one of the bestselling compact luxury SUVs in the U.S. Audi customers and car enthusiasts, however, have panned the company's shift to a derivative exterior design and subpar interior materials while prices keep ratcheting higher. With thousands of test miles logged in Q5 models dating back to the first generation, we came to this Q5 review with an open yet highly critical mind, especially considering our Prestige test car’s roughly $65,000 asking price.

Verdict: Competent, not compelling, the Q5 meets expectations without setting the bar like it did in previous generations.

Reviews Summary

The all-new second-generation 2027 Kia Telluride has big shoes to fill and seems to be easily up to the task. With ample power, an efficient Hybrid model, and clever design, it could very well be a class leader among very competitive rivals. There are also luxurious and terrain-capable variants to go along with the sensibly priced models, giving the Telluride even broader appeal than before.

Verdict: If the first-generation Telluride set the bar for value and family-friendly practicality, the second generation raises it. The latest Telluride adds a compelling hybrid option and a more upscale feel while keeping prices in check.

2026 Audi Q5

6/10

2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid

5/10

The 2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid presented a bold and polarizing design that divided opinions, particularly with its flat, wide grille. The vehicle's personality shifted significantly with different color and trim levels, with lighter colors making the body-colored vertical strakes more pronounced, while darker shades allowed them to blend in. The X-Line and X-Pro models replaced these strakes with rectangular grille blocks and featured distinctive amber accent lights. The side profile showcased unique angular fender sculpting and black plastic tabs atop each wheel well, which some found unnecessary. The rear view adopted a Range Rover-like style with rounded corners and vertical taillights. Inside, the Telluride's interior was less controversial, featuring a simple horizontal dashboard layout and a modern, buttonless appearance. The Hybrid SX Prestige trim offered a luxurious two-tone palette, though the labeling on some buttons was hard to read. The seats, covered in synthetic leather and suede, were somewhat firm, but the surrounding materials were of excellent quality.

In contrast, the 2026 Audi Q5 maintained a clean, classically handsome exterior design, though it somewhat diverged from Audi's traditional aesthetic. The Q5's front end was dominated by a wider grille and tall side intakes, with thinner headlights set deeper into the body. The District Green paint with the S Line Black Optic Package was striking, but the grille's honeycomb design appeared less appealing up close. The rear bumper featured a honeycomb texture inset within a gloss surround, and the exterior lighting was sharp, though the thin rear lightbar was less distinctive. The side proportions were compromised, with a lower roof and slight rear slope. Inside, the Q5's interior was a mix of offensive and tasteful elements. The seats were well-sculpted and covered in durable leather, while the four-spoke steering wheel and other controls offered a satisfying tactile experience. However, the abundance of shiny black plastic and disjointed screens detracted from the interior's appeal. The instrument panel lacked customization, and the driver's door and cruise control stalk were awkwardly designed.

Performance

2026 Audi Q5

2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid

8/10

The 2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid was powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 274 horsepower and 311 pound-feet of torque, paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The Hybrid version added electric motors and a 1.65-kWh battery pack, increasing output to 329 hp and 339 lb-ft of torque, with a six-speed transmission. The Telluride Hybrid offered a quiet and smooth ride, with seamless transitions between electric and gas power. The X-Pro Prestige trim provided off-road capabilities, while the Hybrid SX Prestige had a stiffer ride due to its 20-inch wheels. The Telluride was composed on winding roads, with a soft brake pedal effort that required some adjustment.

The 2026 Audi Q5 featured a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine with 268 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and Audi's quattro all-wheel drive. The Q5 offered rock-solid stability, a hushed cabin, and a comfortable ride, with light steering and a capable suspension. The Prestige trim included air springs, though they did not noticeably improve ride quality. The Q5's fuel economy was competitive, with EPA ratings of 21 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined.

Form and function

2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid

6/10

The 2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid provided ample space for adults in all three rows, though the rearmost row was better suited for smaller passengers. The second row featured power-adjustable seats with heating and ventilation in the Hybrid SX Prestige trim, though they took a long time to slide and tilt forward. The Telluride offered generous cargo space, with up to 89.3 cubic feet of capacity when the second-row seatbacks were folded. The Hybrid models lost only about one cubic foot of cargo space. The Telluride could tow up to 5,000 pounds, or 4,500 for the Hybrid.

The 2026 Audi Q5 offered average headroom and legroom for the compact SUV class, with 27.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 56.9 cubic feet when folded. The rear seats manually reclined and were split 40/20/40. The Q5's standard panoramic sunroof was wide and expansive, and the vehicle's towing capacity was 4,400 pounds. The Q5 came with a range of standard features, including heated power front seats, leather upholstery, and a three-zone climate system. However, the touchscreen-based climate controls were inconvenient, and the instrument panel lacked customization.

2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid

8/10

The 2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid featured a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, a 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, and a 5-inch touchscreen for climate controls. The infotainment system included wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual wireless phone chargers, and a native navigation system. The system was easy to use, though it required a hard tap to register inputs. The Telluride SX trim and above came with a 14-speaker Meridian premium audio system.

The 2026 Audi Q5 came standard with a 14.5-inch touchscreen, an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster, and a third 10.9-inch touchscreen on Prestige trims. The Q5 supported wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and featured a Bang & Olufsen stereo with 755 watts and 19 speakers. The Q5's technology included excellent depictions of road and traffic conditions, Park Assist Pro, and Audi Connect Care with remote start and stolen vehicle tracking.

2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid

8/10

The 2027 Kia Telluride Hybrid included standard advanced safety features such as frontal collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and lane-keep assist. Higher trims offered additional features like a surround-view camera system and automatic reverse braking. The driver attention monitor had some operational issues, but the highway driving assist was particularly helpful.

The 2026 Audi Q5 received a five-star overall safety rating from the NHTSA for the 2025 model, and the IIHS awarded it a Top Safety Pick+ rating. The Q5 included standard driver-assistance features like automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. The Premium Plus trim added forward cross-traffic alert and braking, evasive steering assist, and lane-keep assist.
