Reviews Summary

The redesigned 2026 Audi A6 marks the ninth generation of midsize luxury sedans from Ingolstadt, Germany. While it shares a name and some tech features with the Audi A6 e-tron introduced for the 2025 model year, the gasoline A6 is an otherwise different vehicle based on the same Premium Platform Combustion (PPC) as the A5 sedan and Q5 crossover. A redesign was certainly needed as most other midsize luxury sedans—specifically the BMW 5 Series and the Mercedes-Benz E-Class—were renewed more recently, and we haven’t had a genuinely new A6 since the 2020 model year.

Verdict: On paper, the A6 looks like more of a premium product than before. But it doesn’t feel that way from behind the wheel, and the tech is a work in progress.

Reviews Summary

Kia’s new compact sedan replaces the oft-overlooked Kia Forte, an option that traded on value more than merit. Although the Forte provided practical packaging and decent performance (particularly in GT trim), shoppers driving home in a Forte were usually doing so because it was cheaper, rather than better, than the competition. With a revamped design and an impressive suite of standard tech, the new 2025 Kia K5 doubles down on the Forte’s fortes–particularly cargo space–while adding attractive features and retaining fuel efficiency and an affordable price tag.

Verdict: The 2025 Kia K4 is better than the outgoing Kia Forte. It offers more impressive tech, more standard safety features, more passenger space, and more cargo space. It’s still not quite as satisfying to drive as the segment leader, but with a starting price hovering around $22,000, it’s a far sight less expensive, too.

Look and feel

2026 Audi A6

8/10

2025 Kia K4

7/10

The 2025 Kia K4 was a standout in the sedan market, particularly appealing to younger buyers or those seeking a second car. Despite the rising transaction prices of new cars, the K4's starting price of $23,145 made it an attractive option. Its sleek design, featuring a fastback silhouette and upscale elements like amber daytime running lights and aggressive wheel designs, gave it a more exclusive vibe. Inside, while the use of plastic was evident, it was comparable to other compact sedans, with the K4 offering a comfortable ride, especially in the GT-Line and GT-Line Turbo trims.

The 2026 Audi A6, while not as visually striking as some competitors, maintained a handsome appearance with its lower "singleframe" grille and Quattro-inspired fender flares. The A6's lighting features, including pixelated LED headlights and programmable taillights, added a modern touch. Available in Premium, Premium Plus, and Prestige trims, the A6 offered a range of sporty enhancements, such as the S Line Black Optic Package and Sport Plus Package. However, the interior materials, even in top-spec models, felt disappointingly bland and cheap.

Performance

2026 Audi A6

5/10

2025 Kia K4

7/10

The 2025 Kia K4, in its non-Turbo trims, was powered by a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine producing 147 horsepower and 132 pound-feet of torque, paired with a CVT and front-wheel drive. While it offered decent performance for everyday driving, it lacked the engaging feel of competitors like the Honda Civic. The GT-Line Turbo, with its 1.6-liter turbocharged engine delivering 190 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque, provided a more spirited drive, thanks to its eight-speed automatic transmission. Despite its sporty looks, the K4 was best suited as a practical commuter car, offering impressive fuel economy.

The 2026 Audi A6 featured a turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 engine, producing 362 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and standard quattro AWD. This setup allowed the A6 to accelerate from zero to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, outperforming base models of the BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E-Class. While the A6 offered energetic performance, the transmission exhibited hesitation under heavy throttle. The Sport Plus Package enhanced handling with features like brake-based torque vectoring and a sport rear differential, but the ride quality suffered without the adaptive air suspension.

Form and function

2025 Kia K4

8/10

The 2025 Kia K4 maximized its compact sedan proportions, offering 14.6 cubic feet of trunk space and a roomy 38 inches of rear legroom. The interior featured comfortable seats with SynTex upholstery and adjustable cupholders, although they struggled with smaller cups. Overall, the K4 provided practicality and spaciousness for five adults, making it an excellent choice for utilitarian shoppers.

The 2026 Audi A6, despite being 2.4 inches longer than its predecessor, did not significantly improve passenger space. The panoramic glass roof increased front-seat headroom, but rear-seat dimensions remained similar. The A6 offered comparable space to the BMW 5 Series, with standard heated and ventilated front seats and optional massaging sport seats. The trunk, with 13.5 cubic feet of space, was more accommodating than some competitors, but less so than the 5 Series.

Technology

2026 Audi A6

2025 Kia K4

7/10

The 2025 Kia K4 impressed with its tech-forward features, including a standard wireless charging pad, four USB-C ports, and wireless phone projection. The GT-Line and GT-Line Turbo trims included Kia's navigation system with Google POI search and a Harman Kardon audio system. The standout feature was the AI Assistant, capable of processing natural language, although it occasionally interrupted the display.

The 2026 Audi A6 introduced the Digital Stage setup with an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch touchscreen. While the screens were larger, the MMI infotainment system was criticized for its oversimplified layout. Audi planned to update the interface mid-year, adding features like an integrated dashcam. The optional Bang & Olufsen 3D audio system featured headrest speakers for navigation directions.

Safety

2025 Kia K4

6/10

The 2025 Kia K4, though not yet crash-tested by NHTSA or IIHS, offered a comprehensive suite of standard safety features, including lane-keeping assist, forward collision warning, and adaptive cruise control. Optional features included blind-spot warning and Kia's Highway Drive Assist 2 for semi-autonomous driving.

The 2026 Audi A6 came standard with a range of driver-assist features, such as adaptive cruise control, forward-collision warning, and lane-departure warning. Premium Plus and Prestige trims added features like adaptive cruise assist and a 360-degree camera system. However, the lane-centering feature was less effective, and crash-test ratings were not yet available.
