2025 Porsche Cayenne Reviews Summary

Verdict: Even the base model Cayenne delivers an agile driving experience, but those willing to dig deep into their bank account for one of Porsche’s more expensive Cayenne models are rewarded with a spirited drive like no other. The competition here is stiff, in the form of other German SUVs like the Audi Q8, BMW X5, and Mercedes-Benz GLE, and their performance variants. However, the Cayenne is not here to lose.

2026 Audi Q5 Reviews Summary

A year into its third generation, the Audi Q5 comes out swinging with screens, screens, and more screens in an attempt to hold its position as one of the bestselling compact luxury SUVs in the U.S. Audi customers and car enthusiasts, however, have panned the company's shift to a derivative exterior design and subpar interior materials while prices keep ratcheting higher. With thousands of test miles logged in Q5 models dating back to the first generation, we came to this Q5 review with an open yet highly critical mind, especially considering our Prestige test car’s roughly $65,000 asking price.

Verdict: Competent, not compelling, the Q5 meets expectations without setting the bar like it did in previous generations.

2025 Porsche Cayenne

9/10

2026 Audi Q5

5/10

The 2025 Porsche Cayenne presented itself as a versatile SUV, available in both a standard model with a squared-off rear and a sporty Cayenne Coupe. The GTS trim, which was the focus of our review, stood out with high gloss black trim and bronze exhaust tips, complemented by a unique front fascia with larger air intakes and tinted headlights. The 21-inch wheels in anthracite gray and red brake calipers added to its sporty appeal. Inside, the Cayenne offered extensive customization options, from color choices to trim and seat belts, allowing owners to create a unique cabin experience. Despite the high level of personalization, the cabin layout was intuitive, with mechanical controls for essential functions and a well-thought-out design, although the sliding center console was a minor drawback.

In contrast, the 2026 Audi Q5 maintained a clean and classic exterior design, with a wider grille and tall side intakes that defined its front fascia. The District Green paint paired with the S Line Black Optic Package gave it a striking appearance, although the grille's honeycomb design was less impressive up close. The rear bumper featured a honeycomb texture, and the lighting was sharp, though the thin rear lightbar was less distinctive. Inside, the Q5 offered a mix of tasteful and less appealing elements, with well-sculpted seats and a four-spoke steering wheel. However, the abundance of shiny black plastic and disjointed screens detracted from the overall interior experience. The instrument panel lacked customization, and the door handles and controls were awkwardly designed, making daily use less convenient.

Performance

2026 Audi Q5

8/10

The 2025 Porsche Cayenne offered a range of engines, with the base 3.0-liter V6 delivering 348 horsepower and 368 pound-feet of torque. For those seeking more power, the Cayenne S provided 468 hp, while the Turbo GT boasted 650 hp, though only available as a coupe. The GTS trim, with its twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8, produced 493 hp and 486 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed transmission and all-wheel drive. The Cayenne GTS was quick, reaching 60 mph in 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 171 mph. Its handling was precise, with components borrowed from the Turbo GT, and the suspension kept movements in check, making it agile despite its weight. The GTS offered a balance between sporty performance and daily driving comfort, with optional features like carbon ceramic brakes and adaptive air suspension enhancing the driving experience.

The 2026 Audi Q5 featured a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine with 268 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. Audi's quattro all-wheel drive and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission were standard, though the transmission showed some delay and lurching at low speeds. The Q5 provided a stable and comfortable ride, with light steering and a suspension that handled body motions well. The Prestige trim offered air springs, but they didn't significantly improve ride quality. The Q5's fuel economy was competitive, with an EPA rating of 21 mpg city, 29 mpg highway, and 24 mpg combined. However, the lack of a plug-in hybrid option limited its appeal for those seeking more efficient powertrains.

Form and function

2026 Audi Q5

6/10

The 2025 Porsche Cayenne offered a la carte features, with the base model including eight-way power-adjustable seats, two-zone climate control, and ambient lighting. Higher trims like the GTS added a GT Sport steering wheel and Race-Tex headliner, with options for leather or Race-Tex interiors. The Cayenne's options list was extensive, allowing for customization of nearly every aspect of the interior. However, it only accommodated five passengers, with limited cargo space compared to competitors. The standard Cayenne had 27.3 cubic feet of space behind the second row, expanding to over 60 cubic feet with seats folded, while the coupe version offered less space.

The 2026 Audi Q5 provided average headroom and legroom for its class, with 27.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats and 56.9 cubic feet when folded. The rear seats reclined manually and were split 40/20/40. Standard features included heated eight-way power front seats, leather upholstery, and a panoramic sunroof. The Premium Plus trim added roof rails, ambient lighting, and a surround-view camera system, while the Prestige trim offered ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, and more. However, the Q5's climate controls were integrated into the touchscreen, causing delays in adjustments, and the instrument panel lacked customization options.

Technology

2026 Audi Q5

The 2025 Porsche Cayenne featured a curved 12.6-inch digital gauge cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen display with the Porsche Communication Management system, supporting wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. An optional 10.9-inch passenger screen allowed for navigation and media control. The screens were well-organized and responsive, with voice control options. A head-up display provided information, though it appeared dim with polarized sunglasses. The Cayenne included four high-speed USB-C charging ports and a cooled wireless charging area.

The 2026 Audi Q5 came standard with a 14.5-inch touchscreen and an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster, with a third 10.9-inch touchscreen on Prestige trims. The system supported wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, with Google built-in apps. The Bang & Olufsen stereo offered 755 watts and 19 speakers. The Q5's technology included real-time road and traffic depictions, Park Assist Pro, and customizable lighting signatures. Audi Connect Care provided remote start and smartphone connectivity for 10 years.

Safety

2026 Audi Q5

8/10

The 2025 Porsche Cayenne offered standard parking sensors, forward collision warning, and blind-spot monitoring, but adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assist were optional. Porsche's InnoDrive adaptive cruise control system was advanced but not tested. The Cayenne lacked ratings from NHTSA and IIHS.

The 2026 Audi Q5 received a five-star overall safety rating from NHTSA and a Top Safety Pick+ award from IIHS. It included standard driver-assistance features like automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. The Premium Plus trim added forward cross-traffic alert and lane-keep assist, while the Prestige trim offered rear emergency braking.
