2024 Chevrolet Trax Reviews Summary

The Trax was launched for the 2015 model year as a no-frills subcompact crossover, designed to serve as basic transportation at an affordable cost. However, the Trax moldered in showrooms without any significant updates until the 2022 model year—when it was discontinued altogether.

But now the Trax is back in totally revamped, second-generation form. It's as big of a reimagining as you'll likely ever see in a car like this. The new Trax is bigger than before, more effort has been put into its styling, and Chevy has added the tech features that have become the norm since the original Trax was launched. Still the entry-level model in Chevy's lineup, the Trax sits below the Chevy Trailblazer, and takes aim at the Hyundai Venue and Nissan Kicks, but it was also designed to retain owners of discontinued small cars like the Chevy Cruze, Sonic, and Spark, bridging the gap between car and crossover.

The redesigned 2024 Trax launches in LS, 1RS, LT, 2RS, and Activ trim levels. We sampled 2RS and Activ models on roads around Asheville, North Carolina.

2024 Chevrolet Traverse Reviews Summary

The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse has gone from being something of a wallflower to becoming one of the more stand-out choices among midsize SUVs with three rows of seating. That’s because Chevrolet’s design and engineering team did its homework when it came time to update this third generation of the Traverse, a model that has featured in the brand’s lineup since its introduction back for the 2009 model year.

The 2024 Chevy Traverse is taller, wider, and longer than the outgoing variant. It’s also much more memorable to look at; following current SUV trends, Chevrolet gave the Traverse a more rugged appearance that borrows from both the full-size Tahoe SUV and Sierra pickup truck. Styling is always subjective, but in this instance, we think it’s fair to say Chevy got things right.

Verdict: More important than any additional visual bravado is that the 2024 Traverse has been improved in countless other ways. It has more standard driver aids, such as blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert. There is more space for passengers, particularly those seated in the third row. And the infotainment system gets a much larger touchscreen.

2024 Chevrolet Trax

9/10

2024 Chevrolet Traverse

8/10

The 2024 Chevrolet Trax underwent a significant transformation, shedding its previous image for a more modern and stylish design. The new model was longer, lower, and wider, drawing inspiration from the midsize Chevy Blazer with its bold grille and distinctive body lines. This redesign gave the Trax a commanding presence, setting it apart from competitors like the Hyundai Venue and Nissan Kicks. The Trax offered various trim levels, including the Activ and RS, which provided unique styling cues such as faux skid plates and blacked-out trim. Inside, the Trax featured a minimalist design with a freestanding touchscreen and round air vents, while higher trims offered Evotex upholstery and contrasting stitching for added flair.

In contrast, the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse was available in four main trims: LS, LT, Z71, and RS, with the Z71 being a new addition aimed at those interested in moderate off-roading. The Traverse was positioned competitively against rivals like the Kia Telluride and Ford Explorer, with pricing starting at $38,995 for the LS model and reaching $55,595 for the RS. The Z71 model, priced at $47,795, featured gloss black-painted wheels and a Jet Black interior with Torch Red accents. The Traverse offered seating for up to eight passengers, with Smart Slide second-row seats and a power-folding third row for added convenience. Cargo space was generous, with up to 96 cubic feet available with the rear seats folded.

2024 Chevrolet Traverse

7/10

The 2024 Chevrolet Trax featured a new 1.2-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine, producing 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque. Although less powerful than its predecessor, the new engine offered improved acceleration, with Chevy estimating a quicker 0-60 mph time. The Trax was available only with front-wheel drive, differentiating it from the all-wheel-drive Trailblazer. The Trax's handling was more car-like, with a wider track providing a stable feel. Despite limited grip and body roll, the Trax delivered nimble handling and exceeded expectations in terms of refinement, thanks to active noise cancellation.

The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse replaced its previous 3.6-liter V6 with a turbocharged 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, delivering 328 horsepower and 326 lb-ft of torque. This new engine offered more power and torque than the V6, with all-wheel drive available on all trims. The Traverse's ride was smooth, even with the Z71's all-terrain tires and increased ground clearance. The brakes provided controlled stops, and the fuel-saving stop-and-start feature operated seamlessly. Fuel economy estimates ranged from 18 mpg city to 26 mpg highway, depending on the trim and drivetrain.
