The Kia K5 was launched for the 2021 model year, adopting the manufacturer’s global alphanumeric naming system and replacing the Optima. It sits in the competitive but dwindling midsize sedan segment and competes with the Hyundai Sonata, the Toyota Camry, the Honda Accord, and the Nissan Altima. The 2026 Kia K5 has four trims: LXS, GT-Line, GT, and EX.

What’s New for the 2026 Kia K5
Since the Kia K5 got a mid-cycle refresh for the 2025 model year, the 2026 K5 is largely a carryover with no significant changes. Last year's updates included a new base engine, a facelifted exterior, new wheel designs, a standard 12.3-inch infotainment screen, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Design
With the 2025 refresh, the K5 adopted Kia’s updated Star Map LED lighting signature, and the LED daytime running lights have a distinctive amber zigzag pattern. Like the smaller K4 sedan, the K5 also has a fastback design. The base trim offers black, gray, and white exterior paint, while other trims offer red and blue options. Standard wheels are 16-inch alloys with a gloss-black finish, while 18- and 19-inch wheels are standard on upper trims. There are no appearance packages and the biggest differentiators between trims are the wheels and the grille designs.
Powertrain
The 2026 Kia K5 has two four-cylinder powertrains: a base 191-horsepower 2.5-liter engine and a more powerful 290-hp 2.5-liter turbo. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard on all trims and all-wheel drive (AWD) is available only with the GT-Line. The base engine is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, while the turbo gets an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox. Both engines take regular fuel. For FWD models, city fuel economy ranges from 23 mpg on the turbo to 26 mpg on the base LXS, and highway fuel economy from 33 mpg to 37 mpg, respectively. The AWD version gets 24 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway.

Interior
The 2026 Kia K5 has a clean, modern interior with handsome standard black cloth seats on the LXS trim. The GT-Line offers black and white or red leatherette seating surfaces and the top GT and EX trims have black leatherette seats. A sunroof is optional on the GT-Line and standard starting from the GT trim. The K5 seats five passengers and has 15.6 cubic feet of cargo space. It sits in the middle of the class both in terms of rear-seat legroom and cargo space, and buyers who need more of both should try the Honda Accord.
Technology
One of the big selling points of the 2026 Kia K5 is the range of standard and available technology. It comes with a 12.3-inch infotainment screen, a six-speaker audio system, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, remote start, Kia Connect app access, front and rear USB-C charging ports, and a smart trunk (a hands-free feature that allows the trunk to open automatically when the driver stands behind the car with the smart key) as standard. Available features include driver’s memory seats, heated front seats, a heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, a 12-speaker Bose premium audio system, and a wireless phone charger.
