Fun to drive and fuel-efficient, the 2025 Honda Accord Hybrid is an excellent family sedan.
Honda offers the 2025 Accord Hybrid in four trim levels, each equipped with a drivetrain producing 204 horsepower and 247 pound-feet of torque, while delivering up to 48 mpg in combined driving. Among midsize sedans, it has the roomiest back seat and the biggest trunk, adding comfort and practicality. This year, minor but meaningful changes include standard wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless smartphone charging, heated front seats, and rear air conditioning vents.
Verdict: Cars like the Accord used to be the traditional choice for a family of four. Now, consumers generally prefer crossover SUVs, so selecting an Accord is unconventional. Those that do will get a lot for their money, though. The 2025 Honda Accord Hybrid is roomy, comfortable, great to drive, safe in a collision, and budget-friendly.
There are four versions of the 2025 Accord Hybrid, ranging in price from $34,805 to $40,450, including the $1,150 destination charge. Starting with the most affordable version, they are the Sport, EX-L, Sport-L, and Touring, which is what we tested. Only the Sport has cloth seats, only the EX-L achieves the highest fuel economy ratings, only the Sport-L comes with black wheels, and only the Touring has a Google Built-in infotainment system and 12-speaker Bose premium sound system.
Honda last redesigned the Accord Hybrid for the 2023 model year, replacing the previous-generation model’s expressive but somewhat busy styling with a plain, simple, and technical design. Is it appealing? Sure, in a bland and inoffensive way that will age gracefully. But let’s put it this way: nobody is going to buy this car because they love the way it looks.
It doesn’t help that every version of the Accord Hybrid has an exclusive wheel design or finish, and you can’t pair your favorite trim level with the wheel you like best. Honda also plays games with paint and interior colors. Do you prefer the classy Canyon River Blue to the gaudy Still Night Pearl paint? Would you want the lovely high-contrast gray over black interior to all black? Then you must get the EX-L or the Touring. Don’t like the wheels on those? Well, there’s always the aftermarket.
It can be hard to find an Accord with your preferred paint, interior, wheel, and trim combination, but at least the interior looks and feels high-quality. The mesh dashboard trim and metallic accents provide some elegance, and the materials impress at this price point. The switchgear and displays also support the Accord’s class-above cabin atmosphere.
The Touring test car had soft and supple gray leather upholstery, but the color’s warm tone proved a poor match with the cool tone of the Urban Gray Pearl exterior paint. However, when the sun is out, the combination works better because it magnifies the underlying golden hue in the Urban Gray Pearl paint.
Honda’s two-motor hybrid powertrain isn’t like most hybrids. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine is not the primary source of the Accord Hybrid’s motivation. Instead, the gas engine operates as an electrical generator, supplying power to the car’s high-torque electric propulsion motor or battery pack through a second, smaller electric generator/starter motor.
We know that sounds complicated. But what it means is that most of the time, an electric motor with 247 lb-ft of torque from 0 to 2,000 rpm handles the majority of the heavy lifting. Honda says the gas engine (which makes 204 hp) can directly power the Accord Hybrid’s front wheels via a lockup clutch in some situations, mainly to optimize efficiency when driving on the highway.
This system eliminates the need for a conventional transmission but, from the traditional PRNDL shifter on the center console to how the car sounds and feels when accelerating, drivers will never guess it doesn’t have a traditional torque-converter automatic transmission. However, unlike with a traditional transmission, the paddles on the steering wheel aren’t for shifting. They add regenerative braking to capture more energy when coasting and slowing down.
In addition, four driving modes are available, including Econ, Normal, Sport, and Individual. Separately, a button on the center console activates EV mode. When using it, as long as your foot isn’t too heavy on the accelerator and the battery has juice, you can drive at low to moderate speeds solely on electricity. That’s a lot to digest, but aside from when the grumbling gas engine turns on, everything operates transparently to a driver.
Honda marries all of this technology to an expertly tuned chassis offering plenty of ride compliance without filtering information from the road surface. The 19-inch wheels and tires offer good grip, the suspension displays a flat cornering stance, and the steering is fluid and precise, making the Accord Hybrid a joy to drive. Everything about how this car drives reflects capability, communication, and predictability, making it easy to trust.
We took the Accord Hybrid Touring on a weekend road trip up the California coast, and it served a family of four well. It is loud inside on the highway, though, and passing power is not in large supply. Nevertheless, traveling Foxen Canyon Road between Los Olivos and Santa Maria demonstrated everything rewarding about the Accord’s dynamic tuning, even with a load of passengers and cargo. It is a stealthy driver’s car wrapped in an anonymous family sedan wrapper.
So, what about fuel economy? On the road trip, the Touring test car averaged 37.6 mpg, well short of its EPA rating of 44 mpg. Separately, on our Southern California testing loop, it got 37.1 mpg.
What gives? For starters, the car is more efficient in urban driving and traffic situations, as we saw little of that. Also, we had 700 pounds of people and cargo aboard for the weekend run to Pismo Beach. And testing of this Touring model involved Normal and Sport modes, rather than the more efficient Eco mode. While a 37.6 mpg result is disappointing compared to the rating, it’s still impressive considering the Accord Hybrid’s size, comfort, cargo space, and enjoyable driving character.
Thanks to some of the changes to the 2025 Accord Hybrid, and the test car’s loaded Touring trim level, there isn’t much to complain about regarding comfort and convenience.
A standard 10-way power adjustable driver’s seat makes it easy to find a supportive position behind the steering wheel. Taller people might wish for added seat-track travel, though. Also, it’s hard to understand why the front passenger’s seat lacks a height adjuster, which would improve support and make it easier to get into and out of the car.
Both front seats are quite comfortable, and they have standard heating. The Touring test car also had standard features like a heated steering wheel, ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats. New for 2025, every Accord gets rear-seat air conditioning vents and USB-C ports, further improving comfort levels.
The Accord’s back seat supplies comfort on par with a full-size car. The seat is raised high enough off the floor to provide excellent thigh support, and the backrest angle promotes a proper instead of a slouched seating position. Legroom is vast, even for taller people.
Interior storage is generous, though the cupholders cannot secure a 32-ounce Hydro Flask water bottle. Also, many of the Accord’s storage spots lack a rubber or fabric liner, so items placed there can slide, scrape, vibrate, and rattle on the plastic surface.
Trunk room is segment-leading at 16.7 cubic feet. Full-size suitcases easily fit stored on their sides, and there is more than enough cargo space for a family road trip. A 60/40-split folding back seat allows you to easily carry longer items. Use the remote fob to pop the trunk, and the lid opens completely unless snow and ice are caked onto it. Honda thoughtfully includes a grab handle to swing the trunk lid closed without touching the dirty exterior paint.
Honda equips the Accord Hybrid with a 10.2-inch digital instrumentation panel designed to inform rather than entertain drivers. As such, it is simple in its look and layout, but is also easy to reference and use. In particular, we like the digital instrumentation’s available center-screen graphic depicting the Accord and the status of its lights. There is no excuse for driving this car after dark with only the running lights illuminated, or on the highway with the blinker flashing for miles on end.
Hybrids also have a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with new-for-2025 standard wireless Apple CarPlay, wireless Android Auto, and wireless charging. The system also includes Alexa Built-in, a basic package of HondaLink connected services that also provides access to a WiFi hotspot with a paid service plan. SiriusXM satellite radio and a native navigation system are missing, but if you use the Apple or Android smartphone integration and stream music to the car’s stereo speakers, you won’t miss them.
With Touring trim, the Accord Hybrid employs Google Built-in with Google Maps, Google Assistant, and access to the Google Play Store. This technology is impressive, and it worked well on our family road trip. However, when we asked for a climate system temperature adjustment, Google Assistant agreed it would perform the task but then didn’t execute despite several attempts.
Mostly, we used Apple CarPlay during our travels, streaming Apple Music and using Apple Maps. A freak hailstorm caused accidents on Highway 101 near Buellton, but Apple didn’t show the resulting traffic tie-ups. Google Maps did, and it told us where the accidents had occurred.
The Accord Hybrid Touring is also the only version of Honda’s family sedan equipped with a 12-speaker Bose Centerpoint surround-sound audio system. It sounds good enough, but won’t wow you with its power and fidelity. A 6-inch head-up display is also exclusive to the Touring trim level, small by modern standards but still helpful to a driver.
Honda Sensing is standard on every 2025 Accord Hybrid, equipping the car with the collision avoidance, driver assistance, and safety features you’re most likely to want and use.
For example, Honda Sensing includes: automatic high-beam headlights, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. It also includes lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, lane-centering assist, and adaptive cruise control. Traffic jam assist is also standard, using the adaptive cruise and lane-centering assist systems to ease travel in heavy traffic at low speeds.
A driver monitoring system is part of the Honda Sensing collection, but the steering wheel isn’t touch-sensing, so when using the adaptive cruise control and lane-centering assist systems, you must occasionally add some steering input so the tech knows you’re still holding the steering wheel. Also, the car issues lane departure warnings as a steering wheel wobble instead of a rim vibration; the latter is preferable.
Honda Sensing works well in the Accord. Tighter curves can cause the lane-centering system to temporarily disengage, and on some rural roads, the sensors had trouble discerning lane markings, but these are relatively common occurrences across vehicle brands, and the Touring model’s head-up display dutifully notifies you when it happens.
The car’s standard Traffic Sign Recognition system isn’t of much help, though. After getting on a freeway, it showed a speed limit of 40 mph, left over data from the secondary road we’d been traveling. Also, following a construction zone with a lower speed limit, it continued reporting that number for a long time after we’d exited the low-speed zone.
If you’re unable to avoid an accident while driving the Accord Hybrid, know that it is among the safest cars on the road. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) gives it a five-star overall rating and five stars in each individual assessment, including for rollover resistance. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) named it a Top Safety Pick+ for 2025.
As of this writing, according to Automotive News, the average listed price for a new vehicle on sale in the U.S. is nearly $50,000. Our Accord Hybrid Touring test car, equipped with extra-cost Urban Gray Pearl paint, had a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) of $40,905. Considering the Accord Touring’s entertaining driving character, efficient and sophisticated two-motor hybrid powertrain, roomy interior, huge trunk, and upscale amenities, it seems like a bargain.
However, an equivalent Honda CR-V Sport Touring with the same hybrid powertrain costs $42,950 and includes standard all-wheel drive (AWD). Factor in the CR-V’s significantly larger cargo area, and it’s no surprise Americans increasingly choose crossover SUVs instead of traditional four-door sedans.
All of the Accord’s rivals face the same challenge. The Toyota Camry has standard hybrid power and offers AWD, yet the Toyota RAV4 is the best-selling vehicle in the U.S. aside from full-size pickup trucks. The Hyundai Sonata and Kia K5 compete with similar in-house crossover rivals in the form of the Tucson and Sportage, respectively. Chevy, Nissan, and Subaru are calling it quits in the family sedan segment, leaving crossovers in their wake.
Still, though sedans don’t offer the same utility or ground clearance as a crossover SUV, they’re typically more affordable, fuel-efficient, and fun to drive. Among those remaining available, the only hybrid models are the Honda Accord, Hyundai Sonata, and Toyota Camry. Of this trio of hybrid sedans, the 2025 Honda Accord Hybrid is our favorite.
