While it’s true that cars have been overtaken by SUVs and pickups as the daily driver of choice for many Americans, there’s never been a better time to shop for a sedan. Cars offer plenty of tech and safety features, better handling and performance, and more reasonable fuel economy than larger vehicles. The Honda Accord is a leader among sedans, and the Accord Hybrid builds on the successful formula with solid fuel economy. The car rolls into 2022 relatively unchanged from the year before.
The Accord Hybrid swaps in a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and an electric motor that combine to produce 212 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque. An e-CVT, or continuously variable transmission, is also standard. Honda’s CVTs are tuned to avoid the annoying issues that generally come with the transmissions, which is a tendency to let the engine wail and drone under heavy throttle. The modest powertrain is more than adequate for in-town cruising, and Honda’s efforts to refine throttle response and braking have paid off. The car is smooth, and there’s none of the awkwardness that some hybrids exhibit during the handoff between electric and gas powertrain components.
Fuel economy numbers are the main attraction for hybrids, but the Accord’s numbers are only decent compared to its rivals. It returns 48 mpg in the city, 47 on the highway, and 47 combined. The Accord Hybrid Sport and Touring trims deliver 44 mpg in the city, 41 mpg on the highway, and 43 mpg combined. Higher trims get larger 19-inch wheels that ding fuel economy. Looking at the competition, the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid returns up to 54 mpg on the highway, and the Camry Hybrid can hit 53 mpg on the highway. The Honda offers better passenger accommodations and is more engaging to drive than the other two, but it falls short on efficiency.
An 8-inch touchscreen infotainment unit is standard, and Honda notes that it offers “knobs and hard keys for primary controls,” which is in response to the withering criticism the automaker received a few years ago when it removed the volume and tuning knobs. Other standard tech includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, USB inputs, and Bluetooth. Available features include SiriusXM, HD radio, wireless phone charging, premium audio systems, navigation, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
All Accords come standard with Honda Sensing safety equipment, which includes automatic emergency braking, road-departure mitigation, forward-collision warnings, lane-departure warnings, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, traffic-sign recognition and automatic high beams. The Hybrid EX-L and Touring also get blind spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alerts, and the Touring adds a head-up display.
The 2022 Honda Accord Hybrid is on sale now. It starts at $28,335, which includes a $1,015 destination charge. The Accord Hybrid Sport starts at $31,685, the EX-L at $34,655 and the Touring at $38,205.

Its a car that sets a standard for all others in terms of the ride, quality build and value you get with the options compared to the price. Rated for 47-48 mpg city/hwy and Im averaging nicely above 50 mpg on my 38-mile work commute averaging 72-73 mph. Whereas I had to hypermile in past car to get the stated mpg average, in this car I can drive like a normal person again. And in a car that, if they can insulate a little more from the cabin noise off the road, would legit be luxury car level at a standard car price. Check this car out! Its a ton of fun to drive.
July 29, 2023I am really enjoying 2022 Honda Hybrid Sports. It had very nice model. It had 2 front LED foglights when I drive in dark place, it automatically turn on, this help a lot to me drive safe during foggy area. I loved wireless functionality for Apple CarPlay. I can connect without a USB cord. It had 2 charges on rear UBS ports. It is so convenient. I am really enjoying listen music when I hit to traffic. Eight speaker audio system very good. Also, I can turn on many radio channels without weak signal. This is very help when I drive long distance. I would like to listen news and catch up what happen for day after concentrated working full 8 hours. I loved power adjustable driver’s seat because i am petite person. It make me feel comfortable and safety when I drive long distance. I loved leather wrapped steering wheel. I feel so comfortable. Also, 4 aluminum wheels very attractive. I loved big screen for backup camera. This feature helps safety when I backup without turn my neck to look at back. Overall, I loved and enjoyed my 2022 Honda Accord hydrid sport.

September 23, 2022I love this car (I have the Sport model). Its a bit smaller than my former Avalon and has a little rougher ride, but going from a 2008 to a 2022 is such an incredible difference! All the features are fabulous -- I plug in my iPhone and can listen to my audiobooks. Plus so many safety features -- I never realized how often I kind of drift off to the side a bit, but the car lets me know, lol. It will take me a while to figure everything out, but so far Im delighted with it.

November 24, 2022Everything they stripped off it Chrome front end, fog lights, Hybrid emblems, home link, ivory colored interior, push button shifters, cheep 17 inch rims. I and my family have always been honda and acura owners so you have really left us up in the as to what to move up to. With electric cars coming in in the future, trade value will be nothing. Boring looking car. My 2019 blows it out of the water for styling.
May 8, 2023This car hasnt changed too much in terms of styling and tech features over the years. I test drove this car after losing my Sonata Hybrid to a deer that ricocheted off another car. The Accord is much smaller in the front row and my husband (6 foot tall) couldnt stretch his legs out while in the passenger seat. We didnt buy an Accord this time around because for the cost it didnt make sense.
