It wasn’t all that long ago that there were only a few electric vehicles on the market, most of which were made by Tesla. Now, we have several vehicles to choose from, and more are coming to market at a rapid clip. Upstart Rivian is one of the newer companies to announce an EV, and it has picked up major funding from Ford, Amazon, and others before ever releasing a vehicle. Its first planned model is the R1T electric pickup truck, which is scheduled to start landing in driveways across the country later this year.

The R1T’s electric powertrain offers a claimed 300-plus-mile range, a towing rating of up to 11,000 pounds, and a 0-60 mph time as quick as three seconds. Though the company notes that a range reduction of around 50 percent should be expected when towing, it also claims that the R1T can rock crawl a 100 percent grade and that it can ford through up to three feet of water.

The truck’s interior is dominated by technology and boasts 4G LTE WiFi connectivity, Bluetooth, wireless device charging, six USB ports, four 120-volt outlets, Alexa capability, over-the-air updates, and a Meridian sound system. Rivian says that the R1T’s cabin is designed for off-road trips, and is made with mud, sand, and dirt resistance materials. A panoramic roof is also standard.

A limited-run Launch Edition of the R1T was offered early on, but reservations have been full for quite some time. That model carried a starting price of $73,000. The R1T with Adventure Package starts at the same price and is currently available for reservations. A less-expensive Explore Package is available for $67,500. The R1T’s standard 300-mile battery back can be upgraded to a Max pack, which bumps range by 100 miles and adds $10,000 to the truck’s price tag.

Some paint colors add additional cost to the bottom line, such as Limestone for $1,500 and Compass Yellow for $2,500. Other options include a $2,000 off-road upgrade pack, $3,500 wheel packages, a $2,000 interior color upgrade, a camping stove system for $5,000, or a $2,650 three-person roof tent system.

Awesome! So cool! Love the frunk and gear tunnel. The ocean coast/ash wood interior looks great! Love the glass panoramic roof.

The Rivian R1T is the best truck ever. Drive better than my Tesla model Y.

To negate the below unhelpful biased review. Lacks any degree of curb appeal beauty. Overpriced and too small. Ive driven many small to midsized trucks over the years. The Tacoma is one of my favorite trucks. The Rivian R1T is about the same size as the Tacoma. However, this is a luxury truck and is priced accordingly. The materials are topnotch. The sound system is superb. You get over 300 miles of range, super quick acceleration with the 4 electric motors (FYI no other electric vehicle on the market has 4 motors, mostly just 2), able to tow 11K lbs. Air suspension to adjust ride heights for off-roading (max 15 inch of ground clearance) and level out when towing. Plenty of storage with the frunk and gear tunnel. Theres plenty to love about this truck and IMO it has great curb appeal!
