The Ford Mustang is an American performance icon, as is the late Carroll Shelby, for whom it’s named. The 2022 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is the pinnacle of the Mustang lineup, offering a potent powertrain and the handling to match. For 2022, Ford is offering a Heritage Edition of the GT500 in Brittany Blue, available with either white or black racing stripes.
The GT500 comes equipped with heated and ventilated Recaro sport bucket seats, carbon fiber interior accents, a Wi-Fi hotspot, dual-zone climate control, and a fully digital instrument panel. It also comes standard with an 8-inch touchscreen. It runs the intuitive SYNC 3 infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Options include a 12-speaker Bang & Olufsen premium stereo system, voice-activated navigation, rear-seat delete, and upgraded Recaro performance bucket seats with leather and suede upholstery. A Carbon Fiber Handling Package is also optional: It adds 20-inch carbon fiber wheels, adjustable strut mounts, and several aerodynamic enhancements.
The GT500 is powered by a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine. It makes 760 horsepower and 625 pound-feet of torque. Power is routed to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The GT500 comes with a Torsen limited-slip rear differential, MagneRide magnetic ride control, performance chassis tuning, and Brembo performance brakes. These various systems can be honed using the GT500’s drive modes, including Normal, Sport, Track, Drag, and Weather. The GT500 will sprint from zero to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds, on the way to a top speed of 180 mph. The GT500 returns fuel economy of 12 mpg city and 18 mpg highway.
The GT500 comes standard with Ford CoPilot 360. This suite of driver-assistance features includes forward-collision warning with pedestrian detection, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Optional safety features include adaptive cruise control and rear parking sensors.
Base MSRP for the 2022 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is $27,900. The Heritage Edition is a $2,140 package, and the hand-painted racing stripes add more than $12,000 to the price. The GT500 is backed by a five-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty.
