2022 Audi TT RS Preview summaryImage

Audi is one of a handful of automakers still heavily invested in building sports cars, but the 2022 model year will be the last for one of the brand’s iconic models. The TT RS will depart the U.S. market after 2022, but Audi is sending the car off in style. The 2022 TT RS will be available in a limited-run special Heritage Edition, and it otherwise remains the same snarling, five-cylinder beast we’ve come to know and love over the years.

The 2022 model year marks the TT RS’s final year on the market in the U.S. As part of its last hurrah, Audi’s releasing a special Heritage Edition that adds five exclusive colors. The limited run will include just 50 cars, ten in each color spec.

Part of what made Audi such a force to contend with in rallying was its five-cylinder engine, which makes an appearance in the TT RS. It’s a 2.5-liter turbocharged mill that makes 394 horsepower and 354 pound-feet of torque. Acceleration is strong, at just 3.6 seconds to 60 mph. Audi’s excellent Quattro all-wheel drive system is standard, along with a snappy seven-speed automatic transmission. Sport suspension is available, but even the standard setup keeps the TT RS planted and confident in the corners.

The TT RS gets standard leather upholstery with attractive diamond stitching, dual-zone automatic climate controls, ambient LED interior lighting, heated front seats, carbon accents, and an Alcantara/leather-wrapped flat-bottom sport steering wheel. The front seats are comfortable and supportive, but most people will find the back seats best used as a parcel shelf instead of an actual seat.

Since the TT’s cabin is so tight, Audi avoided slapping a huge infotainment touchscreen in the center stack. Instead, the digital gauge cluster doubles as an infotainment display, handling everything from Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to navigation and radio station selection. The system is controlled with a rotary dial in the center console instead of a touchscreen, and it’s easy to use after a short learning period. Audi also includes a Bang & Olufsen stereo and a Wi-Fi hotspot as standard gear.

Though pricey, the TT RS does not offer much in the way of advanced driver aids. Audi includes parking sensors as standard and blind spot monitoring as optional equipment, but the list ends there. The car has not been crash tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).

The 2022 Audi TT RS is on sale now. It carries a starting price of $74,245 for the standard car and $86,395 for the TT RS Heritage Edition. Audi offers several upgrades for the cars, including a $1,450 RS Design interior package with either blue or red accents, a $1,000 sport exhaust, a $300 black exterior badge package, and a no-cost RS fixed sport suspension system.

Bought my 2018 with 55,000km, now it at 99,000km with engine oil change every 6 month or 7500km, all other maintenance by the book. Only problem I have is that I need to clear a door lamp malfunction history code every 6 or so months. Front Brake rotors/pads are expensive(Audi quoted CA$5000 in 2021 to replace). Car as be grate since owning, it had factory warranty and a service package on it at time of purchase. Still loving my TTRS after 3 year. My previous 12 cars non of them lasted 2 years before I got bored(I still think about my Lexus IS350 because of built quality, good performance and reliability) . If my 2018 TTRS stay reliable with proper maintenance and No crazy mods, I’ll be holding on to it for a very long time but eventually a Lexus will take over it’s daily duties.Jul 16, 2023

This is my fourth TT including my current RS. Each one has been a joy, reliable and gone over 100k miles without major problems. AWD superb. Size, power and agility are spot on. Sad to see the end of the line. Apr 03, 2022

Terrible value in todays current market. Also, Audi was unable to take any orders in during January-March of 2022 and now even the non-heritage ones are gone. Audi missed out on my money.Apr 01, 2022
