The Nissan Kicks is the smallest crossover in the brand’s growing lineup, competing with the Hyundai Venue and Kia Soul. It was introduced for 2018 and gets new safety updates for 2020.
Despite the Kicks’ diminutive size, it has plenty of personality. It wears the same aggressive styling as Nissan’s other crossovers and offers five two-tone color schemes.
Nissan’s only engine offering is a 1.6-liter inline 4-cylinder engine with 122 horsepower and 114 pound-feet of torque. A continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and front-wheel drive (FWD) are also standard. All-wheel drive (AWD) is not on the menu. Fortunately, fuel economy is commendable at 31 mpg city, 36 highway, and 33 combined.
The Kicks comes in S, SV, and SR trims. The S comes standard with Bluetooth, three USB ports, keyless entry, push-button start, a tire-fill alert system, and automatic headlights.
The SV gets 17-inch alloy wheels, body-colored heated outside mirrors, roof rails, automatic temperature control, a 7.0-inch instrument cluster LCD, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, keyless access, remote engine start, and satellite radio.
The SR trim rounds things out with LED low-beam headlights, LED headlight accents, fog lights, black heated outside mirrors with turn signals, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a leather shift knob, special SR seat fabric, and a rear roof spoiler. You can then add the SR Premium Package, bundling Bose Audio, an amplifier, eight speakers, leatherette upholstery, heated front seats, and an alarm.
For 2020, Nissan makes its Safety Shield 360 technology standard equipment for the Kicks. That gets you a reversing camera, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian detection, rear automatic braking, lane-departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic high-beams. Additionally, SV and SR trims come with a rear-door alert. The Kicks was awarded a Top Safety Pick by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) in 2019.

Gorgeous on the outside.....golf cart with doors on thr inside. Rented through the Lyft driver app (express drive. Insides almost matched my 1983 nissan Datsun truck I drive in my teens, except it was metal & could take a beating. I felt as though I was driving a golf cart with doors. If a smart car hit us in the kicks, all aboard would have felt the impact. Mayne driving around on highways & side streets or in the country to to the store, but never on an interstate in Atlanta. It was the equivalent of the Hyundai venue or revenue we rented a few years prior

I forgot to mention that the version I have has everything like keyless entry and remote start, all the safety features you could want and connects to our phones without any issues. Great little car. Mar 24, 2023

I received this car as a rental during a business trip. For those who dont care about speed, luxury, fancy features like keyless entry or android auto/apple car play, this car may work for you. You can fit two medium sized suitcases, a carry on, and a backpack in the back. I had to put the seats down because I had all of that but one of those medium cases was a standard large instead, so it didnt fit. Lets throw down a simple pros and cons list.
Pros:
- Good on gas.
- Peppy enough for city life.
- Decent space for a small car.
- It wont draw unwanted attention or any attention of any kind.
- Itll get you from point A to B safely with a suite of standard safety equipment. You dont normally see backup sensors AND a camera at this price point.
- It looks way better than the Juke did.
Cons:
- It has very little power, so forget about passing anything beyond city speeds. Youll just embarrass yourself. While it can do 70, it struggles hard to do it and it sounds absolutely terrible while trying.
- The interior materials are pretty bad compared to its rivals and its quite bland.
- The stereo is not meant to be played loud. Dont do it. It sounds terrible if you do.

I think this is a good car for the value. I have the basic model, so there’s no GPS or Apple Car Play, but it does have basic safety features like blind spot monitoring, lane departure warning and backup camera. The car handles well, has large cargo space and a smooth ride. Aug 28, 2022
