The Hyundai Elantra GT, a compact hatchback, carries over unchanged for 2020. It competes with the Honda Civic Hatchback, Subaru Impreza Hatchback, and Volkswagen Golf.
The Base and N Line trims both return. Standard features include 17-inch alloy wheels, 60/40 split-folding seats, an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth, a 6-way manual driver’s seat, LED daytime-running lights (DRLs), and satellite radio. The available Style Package ups the content considerably, adding a panoramic sunroof, side-mirror turn signals, leather upholstery, keyless access and start, dual-zone automatic climate control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats, and a sliding armrest.
The N Line trim comes with an aggressive body kit that includes unique front and rear fascias, 18-inch wheels, a multi-link independent rear suspension, LED headlights, leather upholstery, a premium instrument cluster, a rear-console vent, and covered front cupholders. The optional Tech Package gets you navigation, cooled seats, Infinity premium audio, and wireless charging.
The Elantra GT gives you a choice of two powertrains, depending upon trim. The Base trim gets a 2.0-liter inline 4-cylinder engine with 161 horsepower and 150 pound-feet of torque, paired with a 6-speed automatic. The N Line spices it up with a turbocharged 1.6-liter inline 4-cylinder engine that pumps out 201 hp and 195 lb-ft of torque and either a 6-speed automatic transmission or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission (DCT). All Elantra GTs are front-wheel drive (FWD). Fuel economy is 25 mpg city, 32 highway, and 27 combined with the base engine or as high as 25/32/28 with the turbocharged unit.
Every Elantra GT comes standard with a reversing camera and a full suite of airbags. From there, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, forward-collision warning, lane-keeping assist, high-beam assist, and driver-attention warning are all extra-cost features. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the Elantra GT a Top Safety Pick award in 2019.
