Need a family-friendly, luxury-dedicated midsize SUV? Check out the brand new… well, actually the re-labeled… 2014 Infiniti QX60. Introduced last year as the JX35, this 7-passenger sport ute has fallen under the spell of Infiniti’s lately fashionable renaming program that alleges a more distinctive separation of sedan and SUV choices. But in any case, the QX60 offers its old-brand progenitor’s 76.5 cubic feet of cargo area (with both rows of rear seats folded), as well as returning the tepid V6 powerplant with its ho-hum continuously variable transmission (CVT).
Available in a single Base trim (a brand-new-for-2014 QX60 Hybrid edition is separately reviewed) this fancy ute boasts standard front-wheel drive (FWD), but can be delivered with an available all-wheel-drive (AWD) system that allows normal cruising in FWD, while standing by to instantly transfer power from the wheels that slip to the wheels that grip, front and rear, when conditions get dicey. Meantime, all the upper-crust bells and whistles that made the JX35 what it was, a quasi-utilitarian yet plush ute, are present in the re-monikered QX60 version.
Standard appearance bling includes 18-inch alloy wheels, a power sunroof, a rear spoiler, a power rear liftgate and heated power-adjustable mirrors. Inside, look for leather upholstery, heated power-adjustable front seats, reclining and sliding second-row seats and full power accessories. Cruise control and telescoping tilt-wheel steering also remain standard, as do a remote garage door opener, an auto-dimming rear-view mirror and a rear-view camera. Tri-zone climate control once again endows this recently renamed ute, with leather and simulated alloy cabin accents contributing to a feeling of pampered comfort.
The single-CD player returns for 2014 and retains its traditional 6 speakers, satellite radio and USB connection. And again Bluetooth hands-free calling keeps the gang (or at least the driver) in touch with the world.
Options, virtually all in package form, include adaptive cruise control, an Eco mode, remote engine start, a heated steering wheel, upgraded 20-inch wheels, Active Trace Control (for greater alacrity in cornering), a tow hitch and wiring, maple cabin accents, climate controlled front seats and heated outboard rear seats. Rear-seat DVD entertainment is also available in either package form or as a rare standalone option. The Infiniti Connection infotainment system with smartphone apps, meantime, as well as a simulated aerial-view camera, front and rear parking sensors and an in-dash DVD player bolstered by a hard-drive-based navigation system with 8-inch touchscreen are available only in the Premium Plus Package.
Powering the upscale QX60 is the same variable-valve-timed (VVT) 3.5-liter V6 as drove its JX predecessor. Managed by the reviewer-panned CVT, this lazy locomotive puts out 265 hp and 248 lb-ft of torque, which is pretty impressive on paper but, according to a number of reviews, loses much of its appeal in the transposition to the real world. Anyhow, towing is maxed out at 3,500 pounds with the proper equipment, while estimated mileage remains 20 mpg city/26 highway in the FWD trim, and an estimated 19/25 in the available AWD edition.
Safety-wise, look for 4-wheel antilock brakes (ABS), traction and stability control, front side-mounted airbags and 3-row head airbags. Front fog/driving lights are also delivered with every 2014 QX60, as are high-intensity-discharge (HID) headlights, a post-collision safety system and a remote antitheft alarm. Forward collision warning sensors, meanwhile, as well as a lane-departure alert system, are both optional safety items.

This car measures up to the hype of good comfort, front seat feels akward, sitting too high with the steering wheel very oddly shifted on you. The suv didnt feel like youre driving big vehicle but does feel heavy. What got me the most was knowing infinity has a sucky reliabl rating so when the dealer called to say he was running late because a piece of top rubber was coming out and then the front driver fronttire felt like it was lose or more bouncy than the rest...May 09, 2020

Bottom Line: The QX60 is a great people and thing hauler, especially for long trips in straight lines. If you want stylish, comfortable transportation that returns decent gas mileage, the you will be very happy with the QX60. BUT...If you've ever driven a sporting vehicle in a spirited manner, the powertrain and handling of the QX60 will annoy the daylights out of you. // Anyway, we decided to lease a fully loaded QX60 after months and months of test driving. Every. Single. Competitor. Some, twice. We traded in our 2011 Acura MDX that we loved, but had outgrown and as well, the fuel economy became unacceptable (14.5 MPG city).
//The engineering of the QX60 is a bit of an enigma. I've declared my love and hate of this vehicle on the same drive. It is decidedly un-Infiniti like en toto, most apparent in the general handling characteristics. I'm baffled by how my G37S was so good overall and the QX60 is so not (I get that it's based on the Pathfinder, but seriously?). Ultimately, we felt the QX60 sucked the least of every SUV between $40K and $65K, so that's that.
//Anyway - the good: We like the interior very much (assuming premium pkg). Nice materials, quality leather, wood accents, etc. They did leave some of the cheap, hard Nissan plastic in place on the dash, steering wheel surround and doors, but it isn't too terrible. Also, this car seats six adults quite comfortably and still has room for some luggage. My only seating complaint concerns the front seat adjustability and its limited seat bottom tilt travel. I find the seating position very flat and not all that comfortable, but still livable. MPG so far has been a legit 25 Hwy (~75 MPH), 18.5 Urban (20 MPH), although running anything but premium results in a significant dip in MPG (from 18.5 to 15.5 urban). Ouch! //Power - adequate. Fine for merging, better then average at hwy speeds for passing. A bit more engine noise (than would be expected) is present when accelerating - tied somewhat to the CVT's logic. //Tech - Infiniti does a great job integrating phones via BT or an adapter. The navigation actually responds to voice commands well, unlike our '11 MDX which refused to acknowledge my wife's voice. I have to comment on the Bose 15-speaker stereo. Not blown away. Our '11 MDX's ELS system was markedly better both in flatness of response, imaging and sound-stage. I don't know how many more speakers Bose needs to get it right, but apparently 15 isn't enough.
//What sucks. Handling, handling, handling. '15 MDX crushes the QX60 in this department (but we hated everything else about the new MDX). A $57K "S" UV should not squat, dive or plow like a '76 Plymouth Volare station wagon, especially when the highway ride is still on the firm side. Granted, we have the 20" rims (with lower profile tires), but seriously, they couldn't have gotten it more incorrect if they'd tried. The QX60 under-steers at 15 mph (I didn't even know that was possible). It is.
//Continuously variable transmission (CVT). A simple 7 or 8-speed auto would have been JUST fine. When depressing the accelerator on a normal auto tranny, the engine winds up and I control the rate of engine acceleration by the angle of pedal depression. Not so on the CVT. IT decides when I've had enough acceleration and begins to wind the engine down at its own discretion. If I want linear accel., I must feed additional pedal in to maintain the same rate. I'm annoyed just describing the process.
//Visibility. Not good. The four corners of the '60 are hard to visualize making parking or merging or turning interesting. Get the driver alert package (or whatever it's called) to make up for the B, C, D pillar or head-rest sourced blind spots. You'll need it. Mar 30, 2015

We bought this car because we were moving to Colorado and we have a new granddaughter, thus the AWD and 3rd row seating. It has been a wonderful vehicle when the whole family gathers and needs to go somewhere (seven of us).
I'm not used to cars this big, but it is very comfortable and has good power considering the bulk. I'm not impressed with the way it looks, so I tried to talk my wife out of it, but I have to admit that it has grown on me.Dec 08, 2014

Can Roof Rails and Cross Bars be installed at dealer site for the Infiniti QX60?
I was wondering if the option of Roof rails and Cross bars is one that has to be done when the car gets manufactured or if you can add this option on at dealer? I just assumed that you could add roof rails and cross bars as the are listed as an accessory, but I think I may be incorrect. I had a dealer tell me that you can not add it on and that you have to order the car with the roof rails and cross bar. they also said I could hire a third party vendor to place rails and bars on top, but that seemed a bit worrisome to me after the purchase.
