The Porsche Cayenne receives another trim level for 2009, adding yet another configuration for the larger of its two available engines. The Base trim gets a 290-hp, 3.6-liter V6, while the S, GTS, Turbo, and the new Turbo S trims all enjoy V8 power, in sequentially rising levels of 385, 405, 500, and 550 hp. A six-speed manual transmission comes standard on Base and GTS trims, with the option of a six-speed automatic, while all remaining trims are limited to the automatic transmission.
Power is adequate with the V6, although lacking in certain high-stress situations, and impressive with the 385-hp S trim’s V8. From there, any extra power seems to be for fun-factor alone. The GTS’s 405-hp V8 pulls confidently from line to line, although some complaints have been seen regarding the manual transmission’s sloppy action. Regardless, the GTS is the trim where the Cayenne breaks the 6-second 0-60 barrier, and it only gets faster from there. The automatic transmission has been almost universally lauded over the manual, even though a manual transmission in a V8 “sport” SUV is nothing to ignore. All engines require premium-grade gasoline.
No matter the trim, the Cayenne comes with AWD equipped with a low-range gear for off-roading, and it has a maximum towing capacity of 7,716 pounds - not unimpressive for a “truck” that’s still darned fun to drive. A Sport button comes standard, which allows the driver to select “Comfort,” “Normal,” and “Sport” settings - although if test drives are any indication, it’d be best to leave “Normal” engaged on anything other than freshly paved roads. That said, while the engines get a lot of press, perhaps the best aspect of the Cayenne is its handling. Normal is anything but, showing other entrants into the class just how well an SUV that’s approaching three tons can handle.
Dual front, front side, and curtain side airbags with rollover deployment, antilock four-wheel disc brakes with brake assist, an anti-skid system with rollover sensors, and a tire-pressure monitoring system all come standard across all Cayenne trims.

The car is overpriced. I took a porche cayenne to trade for this one with only 1000 more miles. I was afford $3,000 for mine, but they expect to get $22,000 for theirs. May 03, 2024

The Cayenne is the ~shizzle.
1. The 2009 is a Generation 1, 2.0. This means all the bugs from Gen 1, 1.0 have been worked out by the Racing Engineers.
2. Mine has AWD w/ a locking rear differential feature that keeps it from getting stuck in the quicksand & mud out @ the Ranch.
3. The V8 is stellar. Ive pulled my 1985 Toyota 4X4 PU through the
I-17 mountains on a UHaul transporter, pulled stuck PUs out of the sand & large dead trees for area beautification projects. I pull a utility trailer w/ my 2009 Cayenne.
4. The Havana interior is impeccable. The cockpit setup is a little lacking; the steering wheel takes a minute 2 get use too, the triangular shape is quite different. I dont use the manual shift feature on the steering wheel. I prefer paddle shifting. Thats a personal preference. All the bells, whistles, cautions & warnings R visible & take the guess work out of troubleshooting the fault. The vehicle will even tell U when the battery is low in your key. My favorite feature is the tire pressure sensor display on the dash. Out @ the Ranch, I find it necessary 2 observe on a continuous basis.
5. Because of the Porsche Racing Pedigree, the scheduled maintenance is completely different & 2 B strictly followed. If not, repairs R costly. The trick is: pull the scheduled maintenance yourself. Its not hard. Ive downloaded an entire maintenance library from the University of YouTube.
Note: 2 issues will occur.
1. The coolant overflow reservoir will leak & need replacing.
2. The driveshaft bearing rubber support will fail & need replacing.
Other than that, the Cayenne is a !BEAST! of a vehicle. Im looking 2 purchase another 1. Im sold on them. I !!!love!!! mine.

My Cayenne turbo S handles like a dream. She carves through traffic like a hot knife through butter. The appearance is extremely exceptional. Also, it feels great to see and feel how well this SUV drives. The performance and power response for this cayenne is perfect to speed up fast like a race car. Not blind spots, the maintenance is not cheap, but it does not need it often. Oil change every 15k miles , Brakes could be every 45k miles and repair could be very expensive , but again Cayennes are build up solid that it won't need anything, but a driver. Dec 30, 2012

This car definitely catches looks as you drive. The GTS has the body kit and rims of the Turbo/Turbo S...so the look is definitely there. You are just coming in at a much lower price (and power!). I was a little surprised that the rear seats didn't offer more room. I am 6'3" and the passenger sitting behind me is not exactly blessed with legroom.
With the multiple ride heights, via air suspension, and the multiple dampening settings the GTS will give you as cushy or stiff a ride as you could want. The sound of the exhaust in Sport mode (electronic muffling valve opens) is bordering on aggresive, which I love!Sep 04, 2012

It's the best compromise for someone who loves to
drive a sports car but needs to carry two little ones in
the snowy great white north.
the PASM air suspension and PDCC chassis control
makes the car amazing to handle despite the size.
And the V8 produces amazing sound and strong

The car is magnificent. its engine is great wonder how the turbo would be. The acceleration in normal mode is fine but in the sport mode is breath taking. I’m thinking about buying a Porsche Cayenne GTS 2009. Low mileage and in great condition throughout. However, I did notice the strange “colouring”/degradation/metalwork(!) to one pipe leading to the right rear tire (see photo - top centre). The matching pipe to the left rear does not have this. 2009 Cayenne GTS fuel pump problems
I have an 09 Cayenne GTS I use to drive across the desert to the eastern Sierras. I had a problem with the fuel pump cutting out at level driving speeds. Once the speed dropped 6-10 mph while I was giving it gas, the second acceleration fuel pump would kick in and I could accelerate back to normal speed but once I leveled off it started the cycle again, which lasts about 20 seconds. Try driving 300 miles like this! Porsche could not find any code problems but went ahead and replaced the fuel pump. It is now happening again, especially when the temperature outside is 100 degrees or so. Help! Anybody experience this before? Thanks
