Write a reviewCreating the illusion of an expansive cabin in the body of a subcompact hatchback, the 2008 Honda Fit is all about its Magic Seat. But this trick actually works. The rear seat is able to split-fold like that in normal cars, but the seat bottoms can also flip up to create a versatile use of space and expand the cargo area from 21 to 41 cubic feet. The flat floor is lower than that of other Hondas because of the location of the fuel tank, giving the Fit the impression that it has more leg and headroom than the slightly larger Civic.
For 2008, the Honda Fit remains unchanged, except for a now-standard tire monitor. Base trims start with full power features, intermittent front and rear wipers, a CD player, air conditioning, ABS brakes, dual front and side curtain airbags for both rows, and 14-inch tires. The Sport model adds mostly flash, with paddle-shifters (on automatics only), a body kit, foglights, a leather steering wheel, cruise control, and an MP3 player with iPod hookup. Performance-wise, it comes with 15-inch wheels and a rear spoiler. Both trims feature a slightly underpowered 1.5-liter, 109-hp inline four with choice of a 5-speed manual or automatic, but owners say the 2008 Fit's steering and handling are quick and responsive and are willing to sacrifice some acceleration power for the Fit's 28/34 mpg.
The 2008 Fit makes a good city car, thanks to its easy maneuverability and 157-inch length (great for parking). Highlights include its large cargo capacity, which, even with the seats up, is 21 cubic feet, nearly as much as that in the Element. And the price is right for budget-minded owners looking for a hassle-free ride. The most common complaints include some road noise, no center armrest, and the lack of options. A redesign is set for late 2008, with a longer wheelbase and the possible introduction of a hybrid version.

A good, reliable car that is affordable and gets good gas mileage. Works well as a daily commuter vehicle. It is also a good small family car. Once your children get bigger you may want to look for something roomier.Mar 23, 2015

(1) Real Gas Saver! (I am able to get 37-40 mi/gal hwy and 31-35 mi/gal city, much better than official Honda sites state).
(2) Compact size great for city parking!
(3) Very easy to maneuver in tight spaces!

It's a great little car that is bigger inside than you would expect. It's a perfect car for a small family or people on the go. It is a very reliable car and never had any issues mechanically at all. It handles fine even in snow.Apr 08, 2014

This car is Great on Gas. It feels quick, even sporty, with the manual transmission.

I love this car. It drives great, has lots of cool features, and has a suprising amount of room for how small it is! It is very easy to configure the backseats to be either up or down, or forward, to maximize cargo space or accommodate passengers. My mom has one of these too and also loves it.Aug 07, 2012

It's been a very economical car for me and very low cost to maintain. It's also a blast to drive, making the daily commute grind much more enjoyable than it would normally be.

Dependable, drives nice, easy to maneuver and park. A few scratches on the rear bumper and left rocker panel but still looks like new. This car is rock solid transportation and has been well maintained with only synthetic oil used in the engine.Dec 23, 2011

For what it is, its an awesome little car to drive in. You wont get any monster acceleration or top speed, but as a DD it is more then enough to satisfy most peoples needs in a car. Its quite peppy, roomy, and comfortable.

It runs... The acceleration is good, handling is good, its fun to drive, the gas mileage is good if you know how to drive it economically, the maintenance is cheap-ish, the interior is nice, and the exterior looks so much better with the sport wing even though it does absolutely nothing to help the car performance wise.Sep 26, 2009

First of all, my car is a LX model not a base model.
The performance is adequate as far acceleration is
concerned, brakes are solid with 4 wheel ABS with
brake force distribution, I do wish it had 4 wheel
discs not drums in the rear, but that's the norm in
the subcompact class. The car handles great thanks
to the responsive electric assisted rack and pinion
steering with a tight turning circle. The build
quality is top notch like all Honda's. The styling is
cool, what amazes me is how much room there is
inside....it appears larger inside than on the outside
of the car.
It has been trouble free and you gotta love when it
cost 28 bucks to fill from less than an 8th of a tank.
It is very fun to drive and I don't need a normal
parking space either! I get between 40/50mpg on
the highway as well!

Overall, this is an excellent quality for its class. As far as performance goes, it does not accelerate as quickly as I would like. Even so, it has very responsive steering; which makes it fun to drive. It has excellent gas mileage! Lastly, its stylish and is deceptively roomy inside.Sep 02, 2009

The transmission is buttery smooth and it corners on its door handles, but it doesn't slip. The 1.5 Liter engine won't win a drag race, but it gets 34+ MPG easily. I didn't even car when gas was $4 a gallon.
The magic seats are awesome. You can fit so much stuff in that little car.

There isn't anything wrong with the fit, it is the most practical and sporty car you can get with this kind of functionality. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone and do. So if your looking for a car that you can slide a 4.5' bookshelf in without laying the seats down this is your ride, or a Llama it's all good it will take it. The gas mileage is better than what it is rated at with highs of 44 in prime conditions (flat road, on cruise at 65) I have also found that I get close to the same mileage at 80 that I do at 65, so you don't have to sacrifice speed for gas mileage. Oh, and did I mention that it handles like a go kart.....no, well I did now. This thing tucks into the corners better than most coupes. So long story short....shut up and buy one. WordNov 10, 2008

The Honda Fit is one of the cars that has surprised me. I wasn't expecting much out of it, since it looks like a pretty typical Japanese hatchback car. The new Civic didn't exactly impress me leaving me to believe this car would also be so-so. I was wrong.
This is one of the few examples where having a cheaper car does not sacrifice fun. The engine is very much like the Toyota Yaris in that its great for the city, not so good for the highway where its lack of power is apparent. This car does very good in the corners and with the great steering feedback I actually forgot I was driving a Honda since this is what I would expect the Mazda 2 to be like.
The interior quality is the best of its class. Not only is it styled pretty nicely it seems well appointed and the good use of the lights made it seem modern...possibly advanced. Never had a problem with build quality in this car.
There's only a few things that may put off some people. The low power and the price tag. For me this is a much better buy than the Civic.Oct 19, 2008

Good gas mileage. Fairly zippy for a small car. Fun to drive. The standard is quite fun. Still new but nothing wrong so far. The cargo space in the Fit is very good. Great for trips to IKEA. Very fun car to drive. Excellent gas mileage. Honda reliability. Looks great, inside and out. A bit of road noise on the highway. However, great stock sound system. Acceleration can become very weak with the A/C running. This is not so noticeable in local streets but mostly on highways. An air-filter-element change is definitely needed; the stock paper air filter element is just too restrictive. Recommend a K&N replacement. The basic warranty is only for 1 year though.Sep 14, 2008

I love everything about this car. It's not fast, but it's quick and it handles well. It's built solid, made 100% in japan. I spend $30/week on gas driving 300 miles a week. It's fun, it's gorgeous, and there's tons of aftermarket.

This Thing is awesome, I'm so happy I went with it over the civic. it
holds more feels like a sports car, the 5 speed is smooth and a monkey
could use the clutch. I recommend this to anyone hoping to find
something that handles well and winds up great. no it is not an F1 racer
but it picks up quick enough and gets no less than 30 average MPG.
even the way I drive ( I like to hear it wind above 4,000 Rpm), and I
managed to get 44 driving to Duluth. you can't beat that now a days. I
can't praise the handling enough, this thing sticks through the twists. It
is a very sporty little ride with an eager look, it wants to go take on
everything.

Honda Fit, overheats, no interior heat
Hello, We have a 2009 Honda Fit. It's engine overheats, and there is no interior heat. We live in a remote, northern Canada community, with no Honda experts/dealership. My husband is a mechanic. This one has him stumped. He installed a new water pump, installed a new thermostat TWICE, and even went so far as to install a new radiator, even tho the old one looked ok. Still, no luck. Is there a Honda expert he can contact? We would pay to speak with soneone. Thanks.
