The 2006 Jeep Wrangler is a 2-door, 4-passenger sport-utility, available in eight trims: SE, X, Sport, Rubicon, Unlimited (also with Premium Package), Unlimited Rubicon, 65th Anniversary Edition X, and a resurrected old favorite: the Golden Eagle Edition. The four-speed automatic overdrive transmission, 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder engine gets between 18 and 21 miles per gallon; the 4.0-liter, 6-cylinder engine gets between 14 and 18. The six-speed manual transmission, 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder engine gets between 18 and 21 miles per gallon; the 4.0-liter, 6-cylinder engine, gets between 15 and 19. Drivers like the power and roominess of the 2006 Jeep Wrangler, but it is noisy, and poor gas mileage is a major complaint.

The color Red sucks, I can’t tell you how bad I hate that color and I was even told that sellers jack up the price if it’s Red something about resembling a fast vehicle going back to the 1960’s it also needs a wench, little bigger wheels and a 1-2” lift kit, w/electric windows and automatic transmission. 2006 was the last year for the TJ. Many say its the last of the old-school Jeeps. The TJ is modern enough to be a daily driver, but yet is capable off-road even in stock form. Fun to drive. Not everybody would like as a daily driver, but I do. Manual Transmission a huge plus. Only disappointment was that it came missing some soft top parts which I discovered months after purchase.May 05, 2021

For off road performance a Jeep is hard to beat. When you leave the pavement behind the Wrangler shines like few other vehicles can. If you want to go off-roading the Wrangler is an excellent choice. When going from off road back to the streets and highways the Wrangler goes from King of the Mountain to ugly duckling. If you plan on using it as a commuter then you are choosing style over substance. Be prepared for a loud barely comfortable ride.Mar 23, 2015

I liked that every morning I went to get in it, it starts right up like a well oiled machine ! Even when it was freezing cold outside and everything else didn't want to start. The seats are very comfortable for a jeep. I was really surprised. Maneuvers very well and can get it into all those micro mini parking spots they have now. this is a great vehicle for recreation and impressing the opposite sex, off road abilities are exceptional and its fantastic in the snow. other vehicles make way and the as a body armor and build make it very durable and resilient to little boo boos like backing in to your husband's truck or a light pole. without the back seats I can haul two great danes in the back comfortably. I love it, feel pretty badass driving it and I love the conversation piece that it is. It do not recommend it as a daily driver if your commute is lengthy or if your job requires delivery services. it is hard on fuel, especially if you have lead foot but she's got enough torque that you cant even tell she's runnin factory gears with the 35 in tires.Jun 11, 2014

Well lets see the jeep wrangler is alot of fun I would never drive another vehicle however if your looking for a vehicle good on gas you should stop looking now this little beast drinks the fuel up like water. U joints are fairly common to have to replace on a fairly regular basis if you off road. All in all its a great vehicle lacking on storage room but anyone that owns a tj knows you don't buy one for trunk space. Great for going camping offroading fantastic in the winter...any-time of year really. You can lift them take off parts add new ones make it your own and its one of the few vehicles left on the road not made of fibre glass. If your a Kevin Harvick wanna be this is not the ride for you this baby is lucky to push past 120 with out doing a death shake. All in all you either love them or hate them but you'll never turn back once you've owned oneDec 13, 2013

We loved this vehicle. Good for the back and forth to work. Parking in the city was nice because we could squeeze into tighter places. I go camping a lot in remote parts. So it's nice to be able to take the Jeep a little further in.Oct 23, 2013

I love my Jeep! Very sporty and fun to drive, very practical for where I live,
and at 85,000 miles still operates like a brand new car with no mechanical
flaws. It looks great, goes wherever I want, and is great for summer

and in the summer it is one of the best cars to drive
around in. Can be hard to keep clean, and it tends

I've owned this car for two years. It does have a charm to it. In a land rover, when you get stuck while offroading,you press a button and twist a knob, and lights flicker, computers come online, and you're off. In this, you pull the big manly lever, you hear the gears grind into place, and you simply overrun anything in your path.
It works, but only just. The engine isn't anything special, even if it is a 4 litre inline six . I've seen engines underengineered, but this is utterly wasteful. I'm convinced it simly spews unburnt fuel into the exhaust because apart from the horrid fuel economy and occasional tailpipe fires (and no, it's not just my car), no car weighing as little as this one does (just 1800 lbs) should get 9.7 mpg.
In their quest for ruggedness, Jeep has taken a few shortucts as far as trim goes. It's rubbish. And I mean really rubbish. It's also overwhelmingly black. The dashboard is black, the carpets are black, the door trim is black, the gear lever is black, the cupholder is black, the centre console is black, the radio is black, the roll bar covers are black, the sun visors are black, and if I didn't buy seat covers, those'd be black, too. In some cases, there are gaps big enough for my whole hand to pass through. The front seats don't move back far enough, they aren't height adjustable, and you can only sit in the back if you're an amputee. All of this was to save money on the interior (but the price is still high).
They've also saved money on the brakes (that's not a department I want to save money... that's a department I want to spend money). The front brakes are single piston discs, with the back being bottlecap drums. They work... once. Fade is apparant after just one quick stop. That's if you manage to avoid locking the tyres, because they've also saved money by not putting ABS in this car.
The 4 wheel drive can't be used on the road because they've saved money by not putting a differential between the two axles. They also saved money on the transmission. Mine had a 3 (that's right, THREE) speed automatic with a 4th overdrive gear. Maybe that's why the fuel economy was so dismal?
The hardtop on mine is also meticliously hard to remove. Also, it's not portable, so make sure to check the weather forecast before you take off, because your roof isn't coming with you.
This crudeness does have its advantages. First because of lack of equipment, there's a lot less stuff that can break. And because it's built with a percision to nearest inch, it can be mended with a brick and a piece of string.
Because it weighs under a ton, but still has a 200bhp engine (however underwpoered it may be), it can be thrown about corners like almost no other SUV. I've come to realize that the rollover warnings inside aren't there because it rolls easily but because you might forget you're sitting two feet off the ground on a soft rock-climbing suspension and get a bit overzealous. Cronering IS a bit tricky when your tank is less than a quarter full. You've got a big lump at the front, and almost nothing over the back wheels, which in 2 wheel drive are the ones powering the car. This means that when in its lightest state, the rear really likes to come out and play, especially if it's a bit wet on the tarmack.
Its size is also very advantageous for the city. It's tiny, easy to see out of, and easy to park. In a city atmosphere, it's faster than a proper car, let alone any other SUV or truck.
But overall, my experience has been dismal. I've found the image of rugedness ruined by breakdowns, and in one case, a complete failure of the rear brakes. It's unrefined, unfinished, crude, and powered by technology that at this point should cost a couple hundred quid for the lot, not the 25k+ tag Jeep has slapped on it.Apr 19, 2008

2006 was the last year for the venerable 4.0 straight six torque monster engine, and the only year with a 6-speed stick. We have a '94 Cherokee in storage in Sydney that took us on 150,000 kms of off-road adventures and was fantastic, so when we needed a 'dog car' I ordered this Wrangler with the long wheelbase. Doggie has his own seat and there's still room for a long weekend's worth of luggage for an adventure. As you can see from the picture we don't baby it - the Rubicon pieces make this a proper off-road tool.Mar 19, 2008

The 2006 Jeep Unlimited Rubicon is a SUV for the serious off-roader.
On the down side there are few amenities, no power door locks, windows, and/or key-less entry. The ride is harsh and sometimes jaw pounding - but on the other hand this is the ultimate off-road vehicle.
The Jeep Unlimited Rubicon has front and rear locking axels. Since this vehicle does not have a electronic throttle box, the driver controls the spped. The jeep is narrow in width allowing it to be driven in tights corridors and is at home in on rough terrain in inclement weather.

2006 Wrangler TJ/SE Turn Signal Issue
Hi all, would appreciate your help. Both front and rear left turn signals operate normally. When I turn on the right turn signal, all lights blink including both front and left rear, interior dash and radio. I thought that I had broken a ground when I installed rear corner guards, but I have tried cleaning the ground plate in the light, bolts and replacing bulbs. this is my first Jeep, so I am not Knowledgeable on where to look next. Sugestions would be appreciated. Thanks

No crank, no start.
At my wits end. 2006 Wrangler, 4.0L, manual trans. Known good battery, replaced all cables to battery and starter, inlcuding ground cables, verified good continuity with voltmeter/ohmmeter. Known good new starter. Known good relays, no blown fuses. New ignition switch. Jumping ground to the control side of the starter motor relay will allow the vehicle to crank great, but won't start, assuming due to no instructions from the PCM to supply fire/fuel. What else can I check before I spend $$$ on a new PCM + programming?

Hard to start when cold and will not run over 2500rpm without cutting out.
Hard to start when cold (ambient less than 50 degrees) and will not run over 2500rpm without cutting out. Also the cruise control does not work when cold. Even when warmed up it malfunctions until it is turned off and restarted. After warmed up and restarted, all functions work fine.
