2005 Volvo V70 R Preview summaryImage

2005 marked the second year that the V70 R held 300 horses under its hood. This certainly satisfied the speed demons among devotees of Volvo's most popular model. The car's estimated fuel economy is 18 city/24 highway, just a bit below the 19/26 on the 257-horsepower T5 trim. Power difference aside, the R offered a couple more perks for its higher price: All-Wheel Drive and leather seats. Buyers also had a choice of transmission: the standard 6-speed manual overdrive or the optional 5-speed automatic. With air bags, ABS, whiplash protection, and side-beams, the V70 R is already a very safe mode of transportation. Another standard item on the R (as well as the T5) is Volvo's Dynamic Stability Traction Control. Enhanced by the Active Yaw Control, which aids with directional stability in a lateral skid, this wonderful technology makes this car that much more likely to keep its occupants unscathed. A multi-link rear suspension and front and rear anti-roll bars improve the already exceptional handling, as does speed-sensitive steering. In their reviews, 2005 V70 R owners raved about the car's acceleration, sporty looks, and responsive suspension. Some of the more passionate responders contended that no SUV could hold a candle to this special wagon. But it wasn't 100 percent positive; a few people reported a problem with a blind spot out the back window.

The 2005 Volvo V70R is ideal for long hauls across the country and runs up into the mountains for skiing. With the Geartronic automatic transmission, city traffic is not a problem except for the large turning radius aligning into tight parking spaces. The 300 HP engine provides stunning acceleration for a station wagon and it's fun to fly by unsuspecting Porsches. With the standard AWD, superb handling and grip made you feel confident that you were safe in drastic conditions. The front seats set a standard that few others in the industry can match. The 60-40 rear seats fold down to give lots of cargo capacity. Standard features include 17" alloy wheels, Brembo brakes, roof spoiler, leather seats - heated in front, leather steering wheel with blue stitching, special blue gauges, auto-dimming rear view mirror, rain sensing wiper system, Homelink, Xenon headlights, fog lights, and much more. Other possibilities include a 6-speed manual transmission, dashboard navigation system, sunroof, 18" wheels, roof rails and more.Jan 21, 2015

Very nice car, looks like a regular volvo but it's not ! With 300hp under the hood , this car is amazing. Unfortunately the maintenance is expensive but it worth the pleasure. With the AWD and 6 speed manual gearbox , it will be amazing on snow.Oct 23, 2011

There is nothing I don't like about my car.... except maybe right now it's dirty....It's fabulous to drive- gets me to and from the stores in record time! :-)Every Mom NEEDS 300hp to get them around right??? My georgeous Volovo is Black, with sapphire black interior, and super dark tinted windows... too pretty!Aug 25, 2008
