2005 Pontiac Sunfire Preview summaryImage

The 2005 Pontiac Sunfire is a sporty-looking 2-door budget coupe that packs a zippy little engine, making this a nice alternative for those wanting a sports-like ride but who haven't got the sports car budget. Now ten years old, 2005 will be the last year for Pontiac's entry-level car.

There are no changes to the 2005 Sunfire, only a new Sport Appearance option package. In addition to a stiffer suspension, it adds on larger 16-inch tires, a sporty trim on the inside, chrome-tipped dual exhausts, and optional graphics. The 2005 Sunfire comes in a base and 1SV model, and both come standard with the Ecotec 2.2-liter, 140-hp I4 engine, air conditioning, rear defrost, and a rear spoiler. The coupe fits four, with front bucket seats and a 60/40 split-fold rear seat. The 1SV is the ultra-budget model, coming with a 5-speed manual transmission and a CD player, and without any options. The base can be had with either the manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission.

1SB and 1SC packages can be added to the base model, to include power windows and leather trim. The 1SC features ABS brakes, traction control, and alloy wheels. OnStar, XM, a sunroof, and front-side airbags are other options. Sitting low to the ground with a low roofline, the 2005 Sunfire offers sporty looks at a low price, which most of the owners appreciate. They say the engine is surprisingly powerful and the car is faster than it looks. Handling is responsive, and gas mileage is decent. The 2005 Sunfire suffers from a cheap-looking interior, with plastic parts that rattle, blind spots, and uncomfortable seats that lack legroom and lumbar support.

Excellent car - model will go 200,000+ miles, No problems, performed in weather from -25 deg F to 101 deg F, handles well in all road types and weather conditions, fuel efficient (avg 30 MPG) but fun to drive on short and long trips.Jul 09, 2014

I really like the way this car drives - it is a good, sure start and they used very good steel - it feels very solid - doesn't blow around like a lot of the more recent model cars. I was suprised at how quick it is - you can really get in and out of traffic. I particularly like the fog lights - it seems like great visibility even when there is no fog. Over all a really great, dependable car.Jan 19, 2013
