2005 Kia Amanti Preview summaryImage

Limo-like luxury that doesn't require a second mortgage on your home is the aim of the 2005 Kia Amanti luxury sedan. This "big" car (Kia thinks "full-size" sounds too stodgy) offers many of the same features, more head and legroom, and top-notch safety equipment than many of the luxury sedans in its class, including the Accord, Camry, and Avalon. Though the price tag is high for Kia's reputation, it still remains affordably less than comparable sedans.

Powered by a 3.5-liter, 194-hp DOHC V6 mated to a 5-speed Sport shift automatic, the 2005 Amanti gets a few more options, but otherwise remains unchanged. New options include heated seats, an auto-dimming mirror, and a garage opener, which are part of the Leather Package. Also new is a tire monitor. The Amanti boasts the most front head and legroom and the most rear headroom in its class. The trunk can hold up to four golf bags, but unfortunately the rear seats do not fold down. Power front seats, full power accessories, dual-zone climate control, a CD player, and faux wood trim dress up the interior to make you forget you're in a Kia. Rear doors have a high roofline to make access for tall people less cumbersome.

Safety is key in the 2005 Amanti, which is equipped with eight airbags front and back. Dual front airbags feature a 2-stage deployment based on crash intensity and size of the passenger. ABS brakes are standard, and traction and stability control are options. The exterior is often confused with more expensive European cars, a fact which many owners enjoy. They also like the incredible roominess, comfortable seats, quiet ride, great value, and the outstanding 5-year warranty. Soft handling seems unsatisfactory for a car of this size, and many drivers feel it's woefully underpowered. Gas mileage is disappointing, and they desire more options, such as a navigation system. Nevertheless, the Amanti is a safe and reliabile alternative to more expensive luxury sedans.

No one has any idea this car is a Kia. Guests in the car always comment on the good looks, comfort and amount of room inside the car - and in the trunk. From the front it looks like a Mercedes - from the rear it looks like a Lincoln. The leather seats are very comfortable, even after 10 years and 90,000+ miles Even the carpets and mats have held up well. If this car had all-wheel-drive and a more European type suspension you wouldn't know it was not a Mercedes sedan. It's hard to imagine more style, luxury, reliability, performance and comfort from a large sedan that can be bought today for WELL under $7,000.Nov 01, 2015
