The Audi A4 Avant got a notable exterior makeover and a couple new engines for 2005. Cosmetic changes include a new grille and taillights. As for the powertrains, you now get to choose between 2.0 L, 200 hp I4 and 3.1 L, 255 hp V6 models. Both trims have all wheel drive.
Audi labels the I4 trim as the 2.0T quattro and the V6 trim as the 3.2 quattro. The 3.2 quattro has 6 speed Tiptronic automatic transmission while the 2.0T gives you your pick between 6 speed manual and Tiptronic automatic transmission. The 2.0T quattro gets you 22 mpg in the city while the 3.2 gets you 18 mpg in the city and 26 on the highway. Both trims have 4 doors, seat 5, and 27.8 cubic feet of cargo space.
Overall, drivers like the A4 Avant's affordability, quality materials, and solid handling. While some critics would like a little more interior room, most people recommend this higher-end wagon. Consider the A4 Avant if you don't want to spend a lot to get a lot.

Nice family-car. Luxurious. Very comfortable drive, also when your driving 120 mph. It's a semi-automatic, when you drive it full automatic the car has a poor throttle response . When you shift it manually the throttle response and accerelation are much better when you hit the gas. Gear changes are very smooth! Relatively high maintenance costs. Electronics not that reliable. This model has Known problems with the automatic transmission. Not spacey enough as family car for me, but that's very personal.Dec 11, 2014

So far great little wagon for city and out of town trips. We bought it with little over 100k miles from used car dealer coupe weeks ago. Runs Great no problems. Requires Premium GAs and synthetic oil due to turbo engine. So far I'm very pleased with it.Jan 18, 2014

Great appointment,very easy to handle , super comfortable seat and large cargo area. Folding rear back seat makes it easy to load larger items. Way east to park,controls are user friendly. So far in the snow it can keep you form getting stuck.Oct 16, 2013

handles great,accelerates brilliantly dont even need to change down,great road presence,affordable to service & repair.
parts are easily found new or second hand,very comfortable interior,plenty of room in the boot,motorway driving gets me roughly 50+mpg,town driving gets me 38mpg , very practical family car, great move from a petrol.Jan 30, 2012

Not terribly fast; however, it is an overall nice package.
It stops well, and handles extremely well for it's size

I didn't have the option for a 2001 Audi A4 Avant 1.8t Quattro. It's a very nice car, easy to shift, clutch is smooth and the lowering springs help out the suspension quite a bit, they eliminate body roll fairly well. Great car though I love it.Oct 02, 2009

Build Quality : i say only German Quality .
Fun Factor : in the wintertime it gives no better car i think .

Love my car!! stock performance wise was not very
good but did a few things to open it up and now she
moves!! New turbo on the way!! Overall the
appearance is very nice i love the look of the avant its
cheep! cheeper insurance and it looks bad ass!! it gets
good gas milage when im not pinning it which i
usually am;) just about every area performance,
suspension and appearance i have improved on but

Decent Fuel economy and great traction that beats the ride of any sport ute'. Needs better power for this weight of car and with the great traction of quattro it makes you want some serious power to put to the wheels. Unfortunate the S4 has such poor fuel economy.Jun 28, 2008

Very, very nice car. Superb quality and overall feel. This was also my first diesel and I was pleasantly surprised by it. Not the smelly noisy thing I was expecting but reasonably refined and fairly brisk.
Also handled pretty well, with loads of grip. It fired through corners with no fuss that had the Seat Cupra corkscrewing and getting out of shape.
With the S-line kit and 18" wheels it also looked superb; to my eyes one of the nicest looking 'norma'l cars on the road. And I could lob four mountain bikes on the roof, all the kit in the back, head off for the day and then posh it up in the evening with no probs - top tastic.Mar 28, 2008

Audi's are not cheep to own, but if you can afford them they are really fun. the Avant is quite an ugly body style, I had to do a lot of work to it to make it look good, but it was worth it. Also go for the bigger engine. the 2.0T was too weakFeb 13, 2008

This was my daily drive untill my ex wife got it in the divorse. I loved this car, although it is expensive to keep maintained it is worth the comfort. It handles great but is weak on power when stock. I had aftermarket fuel ingectors, air intake, exhast system and chip on mine and that really pepped it up! It would be worth sporting for the bigger engine if I buy another one.Jan 31, 2008

my 2002 Audi A4 Avant Quattro has a coolant leak somewhere. I have to add coolant about once a week. Anyone else have this problem?
It runs cool, never overheats. Coolant light comes on once a week and I have to add coolant to the overflow reservoir. When I get up to go to work there is a small puddle of coolant on the driveway once in a while. How hard is it to fix this myself or should I take it in to get serviced?
