Half mpg?
Was getting 22 to 24 mpg average. Now 12 to 13.6 mpg. No codes or lights on. What might be the issue and where to start diagnoses???

Representing GM's sportier line of cars, Pontiac's stalwart has been the Bonneville, now over 40 years old and still going strong. The 2002 Pontiac Bonneville delivers minor changes, including a restyled front and rear end on the base SE trim, new 17-inch tires for the SE and SLE, a retooled center console and cupholders, and new badging and exhaust pipes for the SLE and SSEi.
Engine choices have not changed for the 2002 Bonneville. The SE and flashier SLE have a 3.8-liter, 205-hp V6 engine with 4-speed automatic transmission. The SSEi is the sportiest model with its supercharged 240-hp V6. All have dual front and side airbags and ABS brakes standard. A recent redesign in 2000 gave the 2002 Pontiac Bonneville a stiffer frame for better handling and control. Though just the base model, the SE comes nicely equipped with power windows, locks, and mirrors, cruise control, remote entry, and a security system. The SSEi features self-leveling suspension, a digital information center that gives drivers warning, a heads-up display that allows drivers to keep their eyes on the road, anti-skid capability, power leather seats, and magnetic variable steering.
The 2002 Bonny seems to be a mixed bag. Owners love its expansive room for five, comfortable seats, peppy V6 engine (especially the supercharged) and its tight handling and responsive steering. Pickup and speed performance are excellent on the highway. Gas mileage is good for a full-size car and it drives like a much smaller sports car. The European-like styling is mentioned highly, as are the heated seats option and the convenient heads-up display feature. But the 2002 Bonneville seems to need a lot of repair work, including problems with the steering column and water leaks through the trunk and window seals. The cupholders are too close together and some owners find all the dash gadgetry too confusing. Less headroom than previous Bonnevilles is also bothersome. Drivers report wind noise and body shudder.

My experience with this car overall I give it a five-star theyre underrated under horsepower biggest problem is theyre made by general motors but I love the car its badass and fast if you research the car you can figure out what dos and donts are and start repairing them slowly my car was electrically f***** up not anymoreJul 22, 2022

It's a great car with gobs of power and plenty of modding potential. Great
stopping power and stellar looks. Not much in the aftermarket for appearance,
but creativity isn't stopping that. These cars make great sleepers since

The only thing I don't like about this car is it's not a FORD I like it on trips it's comfortable and fun to drive. wish it had a super charger but it runs ok for a GM product. My wife fell in love with it when she seen itApr 21, 2011

The car has a great feeling. it is my second bonneville and the performance is definitely acceptable. the bullet-proof 3800 can def pull this hefty car forward at a moderately brisk pace. the gas mileage isnt perfect, but its great for a big car. very sporty looking with a bit overdone inside, but its that excess i fell in love with with my first 95. if you want a big american car with a soul this is the way to go! it may not be as sporty as the europeans, but it also wont break the bank to repair.Apr 21, 2010

I bought this car after my 02' Chrysler Concorde blew its motor at 66K. I have a friend who holds a auto dealers license and he had just came back from auction with a Bonneville. Artic white, loaded, and 72k on the clock . I could'nt ask for a better car for the 5k I paid for it. The only thing I don't care for is the air adj. shocks in the rear. I think they are shot for the ride is not as good as I think it could be. Replacements are'nt that much $ ,perhaps that will do it.Jun 14, 2009

good reliable 3800 series II engine... american made. with a couple mods it has plenty of powe. plenty of room, 4 doors, over 2 tons, but still gets 30+ mpg. Always had a thing for bonnevilles i guess... it is my 3rd after all :P

Pretty good car. Has been pretty good. When you get over 100K , it can start to dig into the wallet for repairs. Problems with tire rods and wheel bearings are kinda prevalent. A word to the wise, do not use any other than GM catalytic converter b/c it will cause problems if you use aftermarket parts. Feb 07, 2008

I bought this car because of the engine in it. I have heard only good things about the 3.8 liter v-6. Between me and my family members we have owned 4 differnet bonnelvilles and love them. The only downfall to them is some electrical issues, but that seems to be the only problem I have experienced with them.Jul 04, 2007

ignition problems
hey guys I have a problem, I pulled into my driveway and my car decided to stall out for some reason even though it's been running perfectly fine no problems. I tried to start it back up and everything comes on except for when I turn the key over it doesn't crank or even click so I'm guessing it is a problem somewhere between the ignition switch because I have checked my battery and it has a great charge everything else works I'm getting gas from the fuel rail so I was wondering if anybody else had this problem and possibly had a suggestion for me, thank you

2002 Bonneville won't restart when hot
My "lovely ol' gal" won't re-start after optimal operating temperature. If I attempt to re-start her, no go! I have to wait upwards of 10-15 minutes. With that...my Tac was going haywire while on cruise. So I stopped using cruise. Now the Tac intermittently flips around. The check engine light came on, had codes read. Replaced the Crank Sensor, no change. Its not the fuel pump either. Next??? Any help would be immensely appreciated! thx
