A new generation of Pontiac Bonnevilles in 2000 sees a new redesign of the front end, headlights, body cladding, and a 2-inches longer wheelbase. The 2000 Bonneville loses a bit of headroom due to a more angled windshield, but gains a more rigid frame and more aggressive exterior styling, but overall features and powertrain options remain unchanged from 1999.
The special SLE and SSEi package options from the '90s now become full-fledged trims. Base model SE and the sportier SLE feature the 3.8-liter, 205-hp V6 engine from previous years. The SE gets more standard features, including power mirrors and lighted entry. The SLE adds on dual climate control, 6-way power seats, keyless entry, a new tire monitor, and performance suspension. The sportiest of the 2000 Bonneville trims is the SSEi, formerly a package on the old SSE trim. This features the rocket-like supercharged 3.8 V6, getting 240-hp and 280 lb-ft of torque. Standard features include leather seats, traction control, 12-way power seats, a garage opener, and anti-skid program. Most of these are available as options on the SE. All trims have 4-wheel ABS brakes, new side impact airbags, and new load-leveling suspension which provides smoother handling. Owners of the 2000 Bonneville like its room and comfortable seats. The supercharged V6 is a big hit, making the Bonneville fast on the highway, and with immediate pickup response. Driving is smoother, and the stiffer frame adds better maneuverability. Drivers say it handles like a smaller car, and the fuel econommy (18/27 mpg) is impressive. Despite the redesign, there still seem to be problems with cracks in the manifold, and cheap plastic parts easily breaking. Owners say repairs are often and costly, reliability is poor, and that the Bonneville depreciates heavily. Some would like split-fold rear seats instead of just a trunk pass-through.

I love how it has this sport feel to it and drives very smoothly. The brakes also work perfectly as well as the motor. I felt very safe driving this car, because it is very strong on the highway and does not feel light.Jul 26, 2014

This is the best car I ever owned. When maintained properly it will last forever.
Rides and handles excellently, even with 90,000 miles on it.

I enjoy my commute to work with this car.. smooth ride, great handling, well made! Gas mileage is... interior laid out nicely. I've put almost 100k on my car.. since I first bought it used with 80k. Engine sounds like it can go another 100k! very impressed with this car overall. Yeah Ive had to replace some items.. but nothing major. Car still runs and rides great!Feb 13, 2012

This car has great torque, the supercharger really makes this car in
terms of power, its no sports car, but it will give you a run for your
money. The handling is not bad but not great, enough for my use. I
can't say much about the breaks other than they work for all i have
needed them for. The sound system in this car (for a stock system that
is) is amazing, very clear even when turned up. Enough space for lots
stuff. The middle seat in the rear folds down allowing up to 8 12ft 2x4s
to fit in the car, witch is very helpful. Air conditioning system is really
good, heating is average. The interior is very nice all around. One of my
favorite parts is my speed is displayed on my windshield, you could
always look down but driving in other cars without make me realize how

I bought this car with the 6500.00 that I recieved from my Dad dieing in a drunk driving accident, my dad was the passenger, not the one driving drunk, anyways, shes a 2000 and had 84000 miles on it, was kept in a garage, one other owner besides me. Imaculate black leather interior. Loud stereo wich is great! Original pontiac bonneville rims. I have been driving this car almost 5 years, only a few repairs have had to be made. Its got an awsome engine in it. What a great purchase. I love this car and will never trade it in unless I absolutly have to.Jan 16, 2011

For a sedan, it is fun to drive...but I don't drive it on a regular basis. It's
supercharged, so it has awesome acceleration. It's not economical, my

Surprisingly mobile feel to the car, for it's heft and
"squishy" feel to the accelerator. It never really feels
like your going fast, but the supercharger indeed
delivers whether you realize it or not. It handles as
well as you can expect any large sedan to handle,
with a respectable amount of body roll and pitch to
the steering. The interior is lacking however, with
plastic everything, shoddy fabrics, internal squeaks,
and bad weather seals. It has, aside from typical
belt maintenance required of supercharged
vehicles, needed no special treatment and has
never outrightly failed on us. It gets upwards of 30
MPG on the highway, and about 18 in the city. For
such a large car, it's quite enjoyable to pilot about
in. The Bonneville is and has been a classier cruiser
for people who don't mind having a little bit of
prestige and size to the typical utility and

Performance: It has the 3.8L V6 and its got some weight
but it has the power to back it up. Acceleration is decent
and braking is fine. It handles great and because of its
weight, it rides very smooth!
Build Quality: Very solid car. No major repairs.
Appearance: Exterior of the SLE is silver is nothing under
gorgeous!! Interior is not only attractive, but verryy
spacious! Trunk is huge also!
Cost of Ownership: I've seen the MPG between 14.5 and
15.7 so it fluctuates a bit. It could be higher but it is a big
car after all. Maintenance, there's barely any.
Fun Factor: This is a very fun car to drive. The engine
has nothing big and special in it but you can still hear it

It is a very good daily driver, as far as performance, its a little sluggish. Some bonnevilles had the supercharger, and mine could really use it... i just hate the fuel gauge, its always inacurate, one of gm's flaws. very comfortable to drive tho.Jun 27, 2009

Could use a little better suspension. With quality, too many window regulators and a leaky trunk that no one has been able to figure out. It is an awesome looking car. Just think Pontiac could have done just a little more to make it perfect.Jun 01, 2009

Performance- good acceleration, but of course could always be faster :)
Build Quality- needed a few repairs, probably could use some more too
Appearance- interior leather is a love of mine and has special qualities such as seat warmers, visual image in front of speed and etc.;
Cost of Ownership- about 18 mpg

I bought this car used. It's a good performing car. I love the torque and the supercharged engine. With a few problems being addressed, I'm expecting to have this car for awhile. I enjoy the appearance. Most people think it is a brand new car.Feb 20, 2009

My car is perfect for me and my family. It is quite spacious, and luxurious on the inside without breaking your wallet. It picks up speed quickly, and is very easy to drive. It is a 6-cylinder, so it does cost more to run, but I wouldn't trade it for the world!Jan 07, 2009

One word, supercharger! Big, fast, wonderful. BUT, watch out for the sunroof drains. They can come detached and allow water to leak into the car, this happened to me and filled my car with about 2" of water which made me gut the interior and let it dry out. constant power steering problems
the tires, 235-55/R17's are expensive
not as much room as my older one which was a 94 SE
needs work, half-shafts; blower motor, A/C not working
its was originally a company car, GE Canada in mississauga
It got worked up there
on top of that, its an SSEi so its not friendly on fuel, 91 octane or higher, if i feel like cheaping out, i buy 87 and dump in a bottle of octane booster, seems to work alright. doesn't lag the performance anyOct 25, 2008

Considering my old car wasn't much to speak of..I love my new car! It's roomy, comfortable, and not mention a smooth ride! Leather seats, climate control, day-time running lights! Bought it with just over 83,000 on it! Gas mileage is pretty good, not as good as some little 5 speed, but good enough for me! american car..sooo lets see, what broke... sunroof came off the track - $1200 to fix.. but i fixed it with some bathroom caulking for $5. both rear window actuators broke $150. transmission $2600, auto-leveling sensor $50, fuel filler door latch $50, need i continue? at least it got a nice 22MPG for a boat. gee what else can i say?? buy anything other than american.. or russian.. i guess..Aug 08, 2008

I love my Bonny, because it is big and roomy, has plenty of power with the supercharger, and gets 25mpg on the highway. It is also a good-looking car. It starts and stops like a champ and handles like a race car. I had to rebuild the transmission because of too much power for such a weak transmission. Other than that, I have only performed schedules maintenance. I like the bells and whistles on the inside; the heads up display for all important functions, the compass for directions, the 12 volt power supply for attachments, and the sound system and air conditioning. i got this 2000 bonneville at an auction with low miles. in general i'm happy with it. new tires, new brakes, new battery so far. the battery is in the cabin under the back seat - you have to get a special battery with a vent outlet. with my new brakes, the pads were making a moaning sound and after my mechanic thought i was imagining things he finally heard it and replaced the pads - the new pads moaned once in very wet and damp weather. i had new tires put on and any shimmying in the front went away but a few months later the shimmying is back around 65 MPH. "other than that" i do like the car. it looks sharp and the engine seems to run well. good power but the car seems heavy for the 6 cylinder. i still only have about 45k miles - bought it with 31k. Idle rough
My 2000 Pontiac Bonneville 3.8 liter engine when I crank it up it runs rough but in a minute or two it start running smooth, But when I place it in reverse or drive it start running rough and seem to want to stall, But when i place it back in park or neutral the engine smooths back out. What can be the problem that this is happening???

Where am I losing ground?
I started my car and it started to sound like it was running out of gas so I feathered the gas pedal and it died. When I tried to start it back up it just turns over and nothing. It's getting fuel to the rail and I put a wire into the plug wire and it sparked but was orange. It was showing 3 codes p0401, p0405 and p0440. It is a 2000 Bonneville SSEI.
