Besides some improvements to the transmission and internal parts, the 2002 GMC Yukon XL full-size SUV didn't do too much to detract from or improve upon its strong reputation in the automotive community. This 4 door workhorse comes in 13 trims and features 5.3 L and 6.0 L V8 powertrains packing around 300-320 hp. Think of the SLT as more luxurious than the SLE with standard features that include leather seats. Depending on which trim you choose, you'll have room to seat 8-9 passengers.
Gas mileage across trims averages around 14 mpg in the city and 19 on the highway. Max towing capacity usually ranges from 8000-9000 lbs. with some trims reaching 12000. Cargo capacity comes out to a roomy 132 cubic feet.
As usual, drivers like the '02 Yukon XL's roomy interior and powerful V8's. While its materials could use an upgrade, most reviewers agree that the Yukon XL gets the job done in more ways than one.

Loved all the room for traveling with family. Handles great seats clean up so easy, car mates all through the vehicle. Doors open wide for easy access to the very back of the vehicle. 3rd see can be removed for hauling large itemsFeb 06, 2015

This truck is one of two of the best Trucks GM made in 2002! I say one of the best because the other one is the Chevy Suburban! I own both and could not be happier with both of my investments.Jun 05, 2014

This engine has some kick but i haven't done anything special to it. I really would like to add some brakes to this truck because it really doesn't stop when you need it to. I need to get a new paint job too, but that will come with time.Jun 21, 2013

From the first long trip I fell in love with this vehicle. Spacious and comfortable with room for kids and all the stuff. On business and golf trips plenty of room to stretch out. Living in the Northeast we experience nasty snow conditions. This 4 x 4 never let me down. Always felt safe. Will miss mine.Dec 26, 2011

10 years old and going strong. Paint holding up well 60,000 miles on original brakes. Easy to drive. Good visibility. On Star no longer supported (analog). Reasonably quiet on road. Love the 500 cubic inch mill. Daily driver. Highly recommend.

Not one thing wrong to say about it. $59K price tag, Allison Tranny, 6.0L Vortech with 340hp, g80 locking diffs, all wheel drive, all heated seats, four zone climate control, seating for 7, can tow the 9500lbs boat without flinching, automatic self-leveling rear suspension keeps it nice and level all the time, bose 13 speaker system, Michelin XC all purpose tyres: quiet and comfortable yet are brilliant in rain snow gravel dirt and mud, 20 mpg on motorway, 14 mpg in city. Couldn't ask for a better vehicle 70K miles and was only at a dealership once: when they were taking it off the truck so I could buy it. Never used the warranty once, nothing has ever gone wrong with it. No squeeks or rattles either, tight as a drum!Apr 16, 2008

I have a 2002 Yukon xl I have transmission issue it's not down shifting my solenoid are bad I have codes that's saying that so I would to know can drive in 1 great at around 2000 to 2500 rpm its not running hot or anything i need for about 8 miles not going fast only going do 30
i have a 2002 yukon xl with 5.3 i recently changed O2 sensors and when i ran live data it does read bank 2 now it reads as bank 3 has anyone had this issue before along with it throwing codes because it cant read bank 2
So the other day when heading to work my yukon as she started on the road wouldn't go past 45 and when we realized we tried to turn back around but before we could she died and WOULD NOT start back up. Got her back home and then have been checking her. She's got a fresh oil change recent tune up. The gas pressure coming out of the top fuel rail line is only steady small stream not a strong spray. Today I have been able to get her to cut on and stay on but only in park. If you press the gas to Rev it up or manually, she cuts back off. I'm leabing towards fuel filters but wanting some more advise if possible. Any ideas would be GREATLY appreciated.
I have a 2002 Yukon XL it was not making any noise all day as I was driving it was parked for about 2 hours I left went to the store still no noise I leave the store and turn on a road and my truck start sounding like if one of my tires have blowed but it was not a tire I go to drive and it's making the same noise I can not give it too much gas I don't know if it's something to do with a rod or the brakes
