The 2001 MDX was Acura's answer to the BMW X5 and the Lexus RX300. The MDX has three rows of seats in a leather which can help hide the dirt brought in by those occupying the rear seats.
The standard engine is a 3.5-liter V6 rated at 240 horsepower and 246 lb-ft of torque. Don't like that engine? Too bad....it's all there was.
Mileage is fairly good for a larger SUV, with 17 city and 23 highway. The navigation system was very advanced for 2001, but wouldn't be quite so impressive now.
I test drove this car in 2001 and would have driven off the lot with one if not for a bad salesman. Reviews of it are generally positive, although many are quick to point out that the 2001 MDX is built on the Honda Odyssey platform, and the SUV is a little to minivan-like for them. While some call the styling "chunky," I thought it was kind of "big-butty" - seemed like the MDX was carrying a little too much weight in its behind. However, to this day, I still remember the soft feel of the leather on the steering wheel, soft as a Cole Haan wallet I had at the time.

Handled like a million bucks in the pouring rain at 75 mph as well as on every back mountain forest service road. It has been one of the most versatile family wagons we have ever owned.
November 4, 2013Some small problems, but very few for a 11 year old car, Bought it with 145,000 miles, has 202,000 now. I can't complain. I've done nothing but change the oil and filter. I have to watch it when I driving other cars, because most of them don't handle as well. Just hit 225,000 miles still quiet and comfortable. What a great car.
April 2, 2012It's a great SUV I have had nothing but I bought it with 129,000 miles and now have 227,000. I changed my oil and bought tires love this vehicle want another just like it just passed it to my 16 year old and he love it too.

June 10, 2014MDX is by far one of my favorite SUV, there very few Luxury SUV out there that is designed with versatility, the design of this vehicle is well thought out for a family car and at the same time not stepping over it's luxury and sophistication. Acura indeed is one of the best design engineer in the interior amenities.
April 3, 2013I love my car! It is great! It is paid for! It handles well and is very comfortable. I love having radio hand controls. I would like to update the GPS but that is my only thing that I must do.
January 14, 2009Good family starter vehicle, huge trunk when 3 row is not in use. Very roomy and easy to maneuver the seats around, easy to drive, maintenance is affordable, same mileage as a TL, worth every penny! BIGGEST BANG FOR YOUR BUCK! :)
August 18, 2009I like the performance and handling of this SUV. It is built in the states, most likely in Canada. It does need more help with rattles and road noise. Especially with wind noise on the front drivers side area when on the freeways. The appearance of the vehicle is great, and looks awesome. The cost of the repairs aren't too bad, the vehicle is equipped with a timing belt so you know how expensive that is.

May 10, 2008Love the size, performance and ride. Would love for better gas milage and wish we had waited a year because the 2002 has a better noise reduction package. We really like the top safety ratings the MDX gets as well. Hopefully the new model due out in a couple fo years will solve some of the milage issues by the time we are ready for a new one.
