The BMW E38 is the best luxury sedan ever produced, bar none and the 2000 BMW 7 Series is the model 3 years prior to the end of production of these in 2002.Nov 07, 2021

Great car, stereo could be better, well built, well designed. Maintenance costs fair, very fair compared to my wife's Mercedes R class. Traction control works flawless in all weather conditions. A big car that handles well in all conditions even when you push it hard in the corners its very stable and predictable.Dec 04, 2014

Great car, stereo could be better, well built, well designed. Maintenance costs fair, very fair compared to my wife's Mercedes R class. Traction control works flawless in all weather conditions. Semi-classic BMW. Originally purchased at the auction as a lot car intending to sell, but soon fell in love with everything about it. Have never found one that was in as good of shape cosmetically as this. I spent about $1500 in parts and my own labor doing preventative maintenance. Sep 29, 2014

What I like most about this car is that it is economical on gas consumption on long trips. I drove the car from Washington, DC to Durham, NC on less than a tank of gas. The on-board computer kept me abreast of fuel consumption at 65 mph and the remaining distance to my destination. With gas prices at $4.00 in the Maryland area this was a great benefit.
What I don't like about the car is that it is expensive to maintain and consumes at lot of gas on short trips.Jul 17, 2013

This car is a rare find on the east coast and none are for sale in Bowie, Maryland. I brought the car in Virginia, and had others ready, willing, and able to buy the car out from under me.
Driving this car is an experience you won't soon forget, the classic design, smooth and aggressive acceleration is something I enjoy. Even though the car is 13 years old, it still turns heads.Jun 22, 2013

Great car! Easy to keep, easy to maintain, Joy to drive! Had some issues when I bought it 4 years ago, fixed all of those, upgraded the navi, fixed cd player, everything works and its a pleasure to drive! Will buy another one when I decide to get rid of this one (if I ever do!)Dec 15, 2011

The BMW is an awesome car. The ride, handling, interior comfort of the car is hard to equal. The styling of the car is timeless. The cost of the car is out of reach of most people ($90K) and extreme care should be used when buying a used one. The maintenance cost are very high if you want to maintain any resale value at all. The car is a real joy to drive; likely the very best car I have ever owned.Dec 03, 2011

BMW are great cars, the ride is wonderful.The leather seats with heat cozy! Sunroof perfect for breezy days! I wish it was less expensive for routine maintenance or minor repairs. Thinking about upgrading to a Mercedes, but same situation lol!!Sep 18, 2011

The only car I have ever owned that I miss in SF. The Alpina B12 version is the
most perfect performance sedan made. The only complaint is the GPS interface.
Regardless, its the only car I've owned that makes a 16 hour road trip not only

Heavy Car, Expensive Repairs but great for long trips.
Weak timing chain , has decent acceleration but its a very heavy car.
When topped off, its even heavier due to its huge gas tank.

At over 4700 lbs this car is a tank, but the 5.4L V12 means it still hauls! The interior is the most comfortable of any car I've ever been in and laid out in beautiful fashion with all instruments and controls right where you want them. This is also the most fun car I've ever driven, the V12 makes a sound unlike any other, snarling with power yet elegantly refined. This is by far one of the most impressive driving machines ever created in keeping with the highest BMW standards. Driving this car, however, is where the fun ends. Owning it is entirely a different story. With a 25 gallon tank and an engine that calls for premium gas filling up isn't cheap even in the best of times. Repair costs are astronomical and not nearly as uncommon as they should be on a car like this. One must remember that despite the luxury car comforts this is still a performance car underneath it all.Sep 26, 2009

5.4 Liter V12 (330hp/350lb), decent performance for a 5500 lb car, braking is decent, handling is relevent to it's weight, but still nice. Quality is outstanding but repairs are costly regardless how minor. Appearance is still decent for a car of this age. Ownership cost is not bad but definitely not cheap, definitely recommend getting a warranty with the vehicle. Fun factor is awesome, seats five with a trunk the size of a Prius and still does 0-60 mph in 6.5 seconds, not Trailblazer SS fast but still matches power with an abundant of luxury items. Hard to believe this vehicle sold for 100k when new but nice that depreciation put it at a level the common man can afford. Must have M series rims, otherwise it comes off as your grand daddy's Beemer. Power everything spoils you silly and the Sport option on the transmission (also linked to the suspension) creates a whole different vehicle during "spirited" driving conditions. I love this car as I did when I owned one in Germany. Limited to 155mph stateside but I personally know this vehicle will do well over 175mph tuned properly. May 14, 2009

This is a '00 740iL, my first 4 door BMW. I chose this car so it can provide maximum safety to my then new born son. This was also how I accidentally discovered the best BMW I've ever driven! Back then, it was my wife who drove the car most of the time while as I still prefer the more engaging '99 M Coupe that I also used for track purpose. After 3 enjoyable years, I thought I traded in the seven for an '01 M5 and wouldn't miss anything - how wrong I was! I bought another 740iL ('01) a few years later. Over heating 2000 BMW 740i
Hi my 2000 BMW 740I is over heating very bad. I changed the thermostat and the two cam positions censers as well a few months back. now I see that its leaking from the water cooled alternator. Could that be why its heating up so badly.Thanks for any suggestions..

need to get in trunk to replace the battery but key want work, battery down
