Where is the dimmer switch for the dash in a 1999 stratus?
I think the dimmer is turned all the way down but i don't know where it is to see if i can turn it up.

The 1999 Dodge Stratus enters 1999 with two trims, the ES and the Base. Between them, they offer three engines controlled by 2 different transmissions. The ES comes with the standard 2.5-liter V6 with 168 hp, and a standard 4-speed automatic transmission. The Base gives you the option of a 2.0 or 2.4-liter I4, and a five speed manual or 4 speed automatic, depending on your budget and driving preferences. Gas mileage from the 1999 Dodge Stratus depends on which engine/transmission combo you pick, but ranges from 26/37 mpg to 19/27 mpg.
For comfort and convenience, the 1999 Dodge Stratus has air conditioning, cruise control, a CD changer, an optional moonroof, and leather seats. The trunk has more than enough room to carry the weekly groceries, without taking away from any of the room in the passenger compartment. To keep your family and your food safe, the 1999 Dodge Stratus has an ABS system, power door locks, a locking differential, and passenger and driver airbags.
Owners of the 1999 Dodge Stratus seemed happier with the 1999 than owners did with previous models. The common complaints were replacing transmissions to early, blown head gaskets, and squeaky, soft brakes, but the frequency of complaints is going down as the years of the Dodge Stratus progress. Most owners were happy with the amount of passenger space and the interior comforts, though some people did say the car is not made for taller or heavier drivers. Overall, this is said to be a pretty good, practical, family-oriented car.

I only keep the car because I can fix it myself.
I keep it running with minimum maintenance, having security in mind.
It almost looks like this car was designed so you need to the dealership now and then for maintenance that does not occur with other cars/manufacturers.
If you can fix cars, want a powerful engine, don't mind fuel mileage and want a cheap car, this one is for you. Otherwise, don't buy this. Jan 19, 2015

Being my first car, as an owner is ok . Is not the dream car but I like it. If I would afford to modify same parts like brake disks, air filter to put turbo on it it would be a nicer car, more on my taste . Oct 27, 2010

I currently own a white '99 Dodge Stratus with the 2.4L DOHC 4 cylinder engine. This is the second '99 stratus I've owner (I still have the original for a parts car). The 2.4 engine is the only Mopar motor I'd ever recommend to someone looking to buy a Dodge or Chrysler. This motor produces about 150hp, which really gets up and goes since its such a light car, and gets excellent gas mileage. The previous Stratus I drove has about 170k and still runs like it just drove off the lot but has a rear main seal leak which is something that just eventually goes out in any car. The only thing I've even had to replace in that car was the started and I got a used one from the junk yard for $13 and it still works to this day. If you are looking for reliability and a cheap economical car I'd highly recommend getting a Stratus...just make sure you get one with the 2.4L because the 2.0L 4 cylinder and 2.5L v6 are both junk!!!Oct 27, 2010

My car has 219,400 miles on it and is running really good. The only thing that i dont like is the body is starting to rust but thats it. The car is fun to dive and has great performence. The brakes arnt that good but still great car.May 13, 2010

The perofrmance is good, brakes need replaced every once in a while. The build quality is excellent, deals with door slamming all the time. The appearance is extremely aeordynamic without looking like a car tree huggers would drive. The cost is reasonable.Mar 29, 2010

Base model w/2.0L 5-speed. Extremely dependable and reliable. Great fuel economy of 35.5 comined city/hwy, mostly hwy. Great useable interior and trunk space. Above average factory stereo. Sharp, sporty-looking sedan. Great factory original Michelin tires contribute to a great smooth ride and lasted 85,000 miles. Car still going strong at 160K miles.Jan 28, 2010

It breaks weekly, I'm always putting money into it, the gas does not seem to last very long, it used to be a roadtripping machine, now it is deemed undrivable for one week due to the fact the back windshield broke and i have no side mirror cuz they are not very sturdy.Nov 28, 2009

The dodge stratus looks like any other simple car but you
would be surprised by how low the mpg is. it only gets low 20
in mpg. The acceleration is ok but the brakes kind of suck and
the car needs fixing up a lot. it rattles while speeding up and

Very nice car to drive, feels like driving a cloud. Very smooth acceleration. Takes corners at high speeds with NO loss of grip. Handles like a smaller car than it is. Runs amazing, sounds mean and accelerates great for being just a 4cyl. Build could be a little sturdier, I think my car (an older Taurus) is actually built more solid, of course most older cars are. Nice looking car, easy on the eyes and definitely has a "cool factor" to it. Cost of ownership to my knowledge is fairly low...gets good gas mileage and the only problem I've seen it have since she got it cost me a buck to fix (roll of electrical tape).

I have a 99' dodge stratus. it has graphics (no not a sticker, really painted on), it has a 3 ft x 3 ft soonroof, it has 18' rims rapped in some kuhmo low pro tires, it has a ground effect kits, also, it has 3 10' JL Audio W3's with a 3000 watt Memphis Audio amp, the whole inside of the car is painted to match the outside. it's lowered both front and back, it has lambo doors, it has tuner X racing seats with racing harnesses, finally, it has a Weapon R air intake.Feb 04, 2008

1999 Dodge Stratus speaker issue
The speakers on the left side of my Stratus have been going in and out, usually when I turn the car on or off. I did a full speaker replacement, and I'm still having the same issue. All speakers worked perfectly after the replacement, but once I turned my car back on a few minutes later, the left side no longer worked. What can I do to fix this?
