1998 Chrysler Cirrus Preview summaryImage

In 1998, Chrysler dropped the lower LX trim level from the Cirrus lineup. It would be unavailable until 2000. With just the LXi remaining, buyers could expect a higher priced entry point for the Cirrus sedan. With just one model in production, Chrysler gave the LXi a lot of attention with respect to upgrades. The new Cirrus added power windows, locks, and mirrors as standard equipment. A tilt steering wheel and seat-sensitive deactivating airbags were also included. Several new colors became available. The Cirrus has bulked up by 200 pounds, without any significant impact on fuel economy. The mid size sedan received an EPA rating of 19/28 mpg. The standard 2.5 liter V-6 made 168 horsepower, and patiently sent the Cirrus from 0 to 60 mph in ten seconds. While the Cirrus could not be marketed as a sports sedan, the suspension was tuned rather firm for better handling and road response.

I've had this car for 9 months now, and I still haven't had any issues with it. For my first car, I must say this is a pretty reliable car. Some parts are easy to fix, some parts aren't that easy. But it has lots of nice features, especially for a car within this price range and year-make. The Chrysler Cirrus, Dodge Stratus and Plymouth Breeze are all part of the great Mopar-family, so don't hesitate to buy either if you happen to find one in good condition.Jan 12, 2011

Even with the V6, it's acceleration isn't any more than ample. Road noise is decent, the cab forward design seems to hold the road well. About 29mpg at 68mph. It can be pretty fun to drive, and is comfortable, but the hard plastic dashboard hurts your knees. Also, I've noticed in the summer that this car heats up very quickly, you turn it off for even a minute or two and the interior will be hotter than the outside, regardless of how long the a/c had been running. I bought my Cirrus a couple of years ago for 4,500. It's a nice ride, and the only thing I've done is new brake pads. It's a creampuff. I call it "The Silver Bullet." Only problem is the mpg is not great. It has a big car feel, but really isn't that big. Sep 08, 2009
