The Camaro underwent a significant restyling for the 1998 model year while still retaining the strength under the hood which has kept it as America's classic pony car. It comes standard with a 3.8-liter V6 and is rated at 200 horsepower. The Z28 brings a 5.7-liter V8 for more power and a more Corvette-like feel.
A great thing about Camaros is that they can get you out of carpool duty; the back seat is virtually useless for anything other than grocery bags. Conversely, if your aim is to bring several friends with you everywhere you go, this might not be the car for you. Like the Corvette, this machine wraps itself nicely around the driver while paying less attention to the comfort of other drivers, including the passenger who must contend with a large hump at his or her feet.
All in all, the Camaro offers great bang for the buck. It has been rumored that the Camaro can take an evenly matched Mustang off the line.

The gets up and goes very well.
The spoiler paint does not seem to be holding up as well as other parts of the car.
The paint is very nice both from a distance and up close.

Fast, quick, stops on a dime. Corners aren't so fun unless you punch it and slide the rear end out, high speed turns are a bad idea. Car isn't a BMW, so the materials are cheaper, still looks great, and is built well for what it cost. Half the car is fiberglass, and that doesn't dent. Cost is cheap, easy and cheap to fix, and work on. Fun factor for the Auto: 7 out of 10.Jan 27, 2011

Only millenium yellow camaro within 2,000 miles every direction of here. SS hood, RS spoiler, custom painted interior parts. not the fastest but sure is nice to cruise in. fastest time on the track would be 17.02@87mph, with a clogged cat, and spinning off the line. 3800 series II v6 engine with a 4L60E automatic tranny. 3.42 posi rear end which only comes with the Y87 v6 Performance package. For the motor size, it performs like a champ. doesnt take much to make it kick out sideways in first or secand gear. interior is comfortable. The car is a blast to drive because it is a 5 speed and its got a racing clutch in it with a short throw shifter.Aug 11, 2010

Great car, fastest car ever owned. Loved the T-Tops. Ir performed like a beast but could still be a good everyday driver. It was great on gas for a 5.7L 355hp V8. Was a sad day when it was sold.Sep 21, 2009

I miss that car alot. It was only the 3.8 V-6, but it was a good vehicle. For only being a V-6, it had good acceleration. Of course I woulda rather had a Z28, but I took what I could get. I loved the black racing stripes.Aug 27, 2009

1998 Z-28 Camaro. Metallic blue, t-tops with ground effects. After market Loud-Mouth SLP exhaust. Gray leather interior. Stored every winter. Fun to drive, accelerates fast and handles well. Better on gas than my Yukon! Fits 2 carseats and a trunk of groceries. Jul 26, 2009

I love my z28
it's an ls1 6 speed car and i have a hurst short throw shifter, slp airlid with a k&n,hp tuners computer tuning, flowmaster mufler, egr delete anf air injection pump delete and the cats are coming off but thats about it for performance. body i just put an rksport rear lip on it ROH drift r rims 18'' by 9'' halo headlights ss hood lowered it and thats about it.
my dislikes about the car are
crappy seats
cheap interior
weak rearend can't handle serious power
can't put a real dual exhaust on it
torque arm that mounts to the trans tailshaft
likes
31mpg goin 85 mph and 18 city
great power and reliability
great looks and a 1 of 301 z28's painted sport gold
really fun to drive
most body panels don't dent or rot
lots of cool aftermarket parts
easy to tune
most work is easy to do unless you putting headers on it

It's a lot of fun. Especially in the warm weather months when you can drive without the t-tops on. Hatchback is convenient for loading tennis rackets or a small amount of luggage. Very sporty appearance, and has great handling.

Performance: 345HP 330TQ from the factory. After market Pacesetter Long tubes, Y-Pipe, loud mouth 1 cat back. K&N, SLP lid, bellow, and cold air. Car is pretty decent economy wise considering the power. Averaging 25mpg highway\town driving, strictly highway getting around 28 to 29. Very fun car to drive and race.Jul 15, 2008

Kind of a rare SS hardtop.The upgrades put me around 407hp. Upgrades include BBK 80mm Throttle body, SLP Mass airflow sensor, SLP cold air induction system, SLP bellow, 3" Dynatech Headers, 3" Borla exhaust system, new OEM headlights because old ones were hazy and yellow. Silverstar bulbs in the headlights, took the front grille off, white turn signal lamps, crappy purple-ish tinted windows, All black Z06 Corvette rims 17" on 17" Dunlop Direzza tires, Powerslot Cross drilled/slotted rotors, EBC "red-stuff" brake pads, Kenwood Excelon Headunit w/ Kenwood Music Keg Player. This car is an american dream for the horsepower enthusiast. Its very easy to modify and make loads of power. Their fairly easy to find and are very cost efficient for power. Gas mileage is their downfall but there is no true price on power and the smile your right foot brings you!Jun 27, 2008

I was very pleased with this car for the price i paid for it. very reliable. now my brother owns it bc i had to get the V8. you know how it goes. lacked some power but still much more than other V6s. Good starter or daily driver for anyone that doesnt crive in the snow.Mar 26, 2008

my 98 camaro has a custom interior done to it. it is a 2 tone orange and dark grey interior, i have done all of the work to the car myself and enjoy doing it. i have also installed the ground effects kit and spoiler along with the cold air intake and performance exhaust. i also installed the graphics on the car and the wheels. this winter (2007-2008) i removed the graphics only to put somthing new on it. i also custom made mirrors for under the hood. i spent a lot of time and money on the car and love doin it.Jan 29, 2008

My 1998 Chevrolet Camaro z28 radiator light keeps coming on and off past few months now it is staying on. My car is not overheating and the car seems to be running fine. Checking the radiator its full and all fluids good. Can it be the sensor or how can I tell if my pump is going out? Also I live on 10 dirt road ranch suddenly my abs keeps going off. Can that happen from the concrete dust from my gravel road? I would like to find a great mechanic in my area if anyone knows one who works on my car model in Brentwood, Antioch California area. Any recommendations highly appreciated

1998 3.8 Camaro Will Crank But Won't Turn Over
So I bought this 98 camaro with a 3.8 in it that needed the manifold gaskets replaced. I did the repair, put everything back together right, and now it won't start when I try to turn it over. It'll begin to start, until I let the key go then it dies. I can hold it in start and press the accelerator to rev the engine, but once I quit doing that it still dies. I have every sensor hooked up. Two possible things. It could be the anti theft system, cuz when I got it back to my place and tried to back it into a parking spot it died as soon as I hit the accelerator to reverse and the transmission locked. Or, when I toom the alternator off, the wire going into the clip broke and a buddy of mine who used to make wiring harnesses fixed it by taking the clip apart taking this metal thing the end of the wire went into and put it in the same hole where the clip plugged into. Could be that but I don't know. If there's anyone who could shed some light on this ordeal, you'd be doing me a service and I appreciate it.

Fast idle after running
When first started hot or cold, the idle speed is OK. After driving even a short time the idle speed is high -- 1900 to 2200RPM in neutral. Shutting the engine down for about a minute then restarting the idle speed is then OK. The check engine light has not been turned on by the condition.
