I would def buy another sunfire. I would prefer it to be a straight drive but I'm happy either way I love my car and for its age and milage i have def gotten my money out of it time and time again. Apr 01, 2012

This car is a money pit. Always having to spend money to fix something else that has gone wrong. I dont think that the car has worked properly for more than a week or so without putting money into it.Aug 22, 2011

the cars not that bad. it gets up and goes. It has decent acceleration, but i wish it
was a five speed. The gass mileage is great and its a cheap car. It does need body

It makes a fast 4 cyl dirt circle track race car. Everyone remembers it week to week. It has a tough motor, loooks great on the track and handles great on the track. I love this car and never want to change anything about it. Definately recommend it to anyone.Jun 01, 2011

Turned it into a dirt circle track race car. It is quite fast. So far has been pretty tough on the track. I won 3rd place and 5th place 3 times with the first season. It is a great race car when it starts!Apr 05, 2011

Fun to drive at first then my rod bearings went bad. Car looks slick 1997. Can't wait to finish fixing it. Not the easiest car to work on though. Bought it used, with some problems.

The pontiac sunfire has always been my favorite car since it was my very first car, My car i have now is a 1997 2.2 sunfire so far its been the best iv put a short ram intake, 4in tip muffler and i recently found some 03 cavalier z24 16 in rims i have put on it, other than that iv replaced a torque mount and a valve cover gasket other than that its running great. ON the otherside finding performance parts and building hp is a hassle, the body is in fair shape no major dents the paint and clear is starting to chip but paint is next on my list. To finish it all up the car has been good to me it gets roughly 33mpg depending how i drive, the car is very peppi and hard to keep my foot off the gas Sep 19, 2010

handles great, goes a decent speed, but has a governor in it. =( Looks pretty nice and mine has a kick ass audio set up in it.

this car wasnt anything amazing like the tiburon. however it needed minimal matinence and never had many mechanical problems. it didnt cost alot to maintain, and it wasnt that fun to go cruising around in. it was just a car yet special since it was my first car. Jul 20, 2009

Needs a fender front bumper replaced and the door latch replaced then repainted New Struts and tires! Had it for a year no problems just some needed car care a replace stock parts that have been on the car for 159,000 miles! Has a brand new stage 2 Excedy clutch kit! Mar 20, 2009

I rather like this car. Though I'm kind of wanting a new car, I'm not ready to get rid of this one. This car starts in impossibly cold weather without being plugged in. Like for example, I forgot to plug in one night and it got down to -43 degrees celsius with the windshield and the next morning it still started...a little stiffley but it started. It does pretty good on gas, fairly cheap for repairs...except my tires but they're sport tires and that's my fault...its got good acceleration for an automatic and i like the look of the body. It started rusting 2 years ago but the rust has barely moved. It's handling is pretty good but the braking is a little sluggish. The needed to find a way to properly fasten the spoiler, and though its not "loose' per say it still rattles a little. Jan 23, 2009

slow acceleration, alright braking, mostly breaking down. Handling gremlins at high speed. Needed a new clutch, bearing in the front, exhaust manifold fix. Loud car. Ugly interior. Good gas milage, bad maintence. but a fun car to drive, sorta sporty but nothing special.Jan 21, 2009

Este fue un carro de uso particular, bastante ágil, motor 2.4 twin cam, 16 valvulas, 150 hp, de o a 100 en 9 seg, buenos frenos (abs), excelente para revasar en curvas en subida, un par de veces le saqué el mosh y lo más que daba por control de la computadora era 190 kph, aunque si se modifica fácil pega los 210 kph. tenia llantas 205, 55 rin 16 de componente suave Bridgeston 550 para rally, y lograba tomar curvas cerradas a 120 kph. buena estabilidad, hasta que un dia no me percaté que la llanta de atras estaba desinflada y le di vuelta, ( volco) y se acabó la historia. Best car i've ever owned. Nothing major has ever gone wrong with it. Only has 75,000 Km on it. Very low maintenance. Has a 60 l tank on it so costs quite a bit to fill. A very good city car and goes fast on the freeway. Newer years have had lots of problems - would recommend this year.Sep 09, 2008

Great car
That little engine has a lot of torque and is very economic. It has an autonomy of 850 km on highway. Never had any problem. It has 235 000 km on it. Now tell me that american cars are not reliable !

Once something goes on it... everything does! The steering went, the muffler, the anti freeze... The front seat locks up when you move it... if you can actually MOVE it! You have to place the seat all the way down and manually slide it into position ... blah blah blah.

I love my Sunfire. It is a two-door stick shift, green, and it can haul ass. It handles pretty nicely, and is spacious enough for me, even though it's small. It's really great for work and school, and for around town, but I have yet to take it on a longer road trip. We got somewhere over 60 inches of snow this winter, along with a lot of ice, and my car DIDN'T GET STUCK IN THE SNOW ONCE.Apr 12, 2008

well its fully loaded except fog lights and i has a 2.4 twin cam that is origional for something that has 271kms on it. and it has a 5 speed in it wich makes it even sportier.Mar 14, 2008

I've had my Sunfire GT for about 3 years. I haven't had any major issues with it. Just the usual like strut bearings, brakes, coolant leak on the hard pipe under exhaust manifold. Most people complain about the 2.4L engines but mine has been great. Auto trans is pretty tough. All in all i haven't put much money into it. Parts are pretty cheap too.Mar 09, 2008

1997 Pontiac Sunfire Saloon. A.K.A RED ROCKET 2.2 liter 4 cylinder. 125 brake horsepower. Hubcaps, no rims. Fire Engine Red. Slight damage to front bumper. yeah no major problems besides a water pump, at 340000 kms the heater core blew and was too much trouble to fix, car still ran strong tho. 2.2L inline 4 was a good motor in this car, still had a timing chain. regular oil changes will keep these things going foreverFeb 12, 2008

Have a 97 Pontiac Sunfire
The battery is good and charged and the alternator is good I can jump the car and it will run fine if I turn the car off I have to jump it again what is causing this issue. It just started out of the blue I bought brand new battery thought I bought a bad battery so I took it back got another brand new battery installed it had my alternator tested My alternator test came back as working fine so I don't know what is causing this issue with this car I have to jump start it every time I want to drive it

Cold air intake
I have a 1997 pontiac sunfire se 2 door coupe with a 2.2 and a 3 speed automatic. I recently built my own custom cold air intake using a piece together kit from o'reilly auto parts made by spectre. Everything went on perfectly. My only question is there is a vent or breather of some sort on the right side, or back side, of the valve cover that goes into the factory air intake right before the air charge meter. how important is it that I have it vent into my new cold air intake via rubber house like factory or can I just put a small cone filter breather on in place.
