1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Preview summaryImage

The 1996 Monte Carlo was available in two trims: the LS coupe and the sporty Z34. Each had a GM Hydra-matic four-speed electric automatic transmission with powertrain control.

The LS came standard with a 3.1-liter V6 rated at 160 horsepower, while the Z34 had a 210-horsepower V6. Drivers of this car love the peppy engine, especially on the Z34, as well as the sleek look and such luxuries as leather power seats. Gas mileage does not suffer much for the power: the LS gets 20 mpg city/29 mpg highway, and the Z34 is rated at 17/26.

I have been very satisfied with this car. Because this car was maintained since new it has been an excellent value. It has cost me under $12K to maintain over the last 93K miles (including oil, tires, brakes, etc.). That works out to under 8 cents per mile plus gas! Still rides nice and gets over 25 mpg. Showing its age, so now it's the winter car. The back seat is not easy to get out of, so this is not a family car. This model tends to rot on the rear quarter panels, especially the driver side,.Mar 01, 2015

overall its a really good car wish they had a 5 spd or 6 spd auto in these back then other than that no negatives. it has a decent amount of power when needed and it handles corners pretty good and the front seats are really comfortableNov 21, 2011

overall a pretty good car and not bad for a college student, just wishing it wasn't so old and wasn't getting rust on the body. Works for getting from point A to point B. Don't get too bad of gas milage considering I have a lead foot.Nov 03, 2011
