The Mazda MX-5 Miata received a new engine for 1994, which was the two-seat convertible's fifth year in production. Under the Miata's stylish hood was a new 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that produced 128 horsepower, up 12 hp from the previous year. In addition, the 1994 MX-5 Miata received a larger fuel tank (12.7 gallons) and larger disc brakes, as well as a stiffer suspension and new seven-spoke alloy wheels. Two new trim packages also debuted later in the model year. An M Edition came with such features as air conditioning, power windows, and leather seats, while an R Edition came with a sport-tuned suspension, front and rear spoilers, and special alloy wheels. Standard features for the Base edition of the MX-5 Miata included a manually operated soft top, power brakes, a driver's-side airbag, remote fuel and trunk releases, and 14-inch wheels. Options included a removable hardtop, air conditioning, power windows, anti-lock brakes, cruise control, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, aluminum alloy wheels, and leather seats. Most drivers noted that the MX-5 Miata was a fun car to drive (its main selling point) as well as a good value. The car's handling, styling, and drop-top were also among drivers' favorites features.

Handling was by far the best aspect of the car, despite the fact its a convertible. Good engine with high revs and quick off the line. Decent stock sound system, I really enjoyed the seat intergrated speaker, especially with the top down. The only part of the body styling I didnt like was the nose. Far too 'cute' for my taste. all you have to do is put the top down,and the smiles never stop,would love to get a new one but no need,this one was free!,if you get the chance to buy one reasonable,do it,you won't be sorry,I worked on this car for 10 yrs before it was given to me,never anything major,just normal maintenance,just goes to show mechanics,be nice to your customers,you never know what will happen!Jan 18, 2012

Cheap lotus! a must have if you are serious about cars. Great handling,
braking, and experiance. If you need a low budget Racecar it is your
dream. With a proper driver you can out manouver anyone on backroads.

I am 53 and I feel like a teen driving this great car. It rolls prety hard but motr than makes up for it with every thing else. I need new tires,does anyone have advise on what I should use (brand) size. What kind of fluid do you use in the 5 speed tranny. I did not get an owners manual with my 1994 Miata. Thanks.Feb 19, 2011

Performance - Acceleration- isn't the greatest, Braking - stops fairly quickly with stock brakes, Handling - AHH what its known for! They dont lie handling on this balanced car is insane with stock suspensions.
Build quality - Needs a gaskets which is leaking from my front main seal but getting my motor soon.
Appearance - Body is still good minor rust but pretty good for its year, needs new seats but other than that interior is good
Cost of Ownership - Cheap!

At the time I owned this car I felt that it was the best sports car out there. Although it didn't have much power the combination of handling, braking and shifting made it a ball to drive. You could wail to the redline and not be breaking the law too much. Over 16 years it required nothing beyond the usual maintenance items. Its sole problems were a squeaky window and a rattle. Both were repaired in the first month. The structure was somewhat flexible but who cared. With a Borla exhaust the sound was wonderful and it made the radio unnecessary. If I had the room I would have kept it but it was time to move on.Apr 22, 2010

I bought her as a used (17K) rental vehicle. I put 215K on her with only a few major repairs (typical stuff - steering, electrical and catalytic converter). I had the engine rebuilt last month. Now she drives like new. My car forever!Feb 14, 2010

Perfect design for an inexpensive lightweight sportscar. Reliable, work on it yourself, ~30mpg, plenty of modifications available, and has a solid frame to make it into whatever type of car you want. Not the highest handling limits, but it is SO forgiving at the limits that you'll want to push it all the time. If you can't drive fast with 90hp, you can't drive fast with 900. Great little car that I bought from Jim Norman as a daily driver to save on gas. I get 28mpg with the supercharger which is a whole lot better than the Landcruiser's 12mpg. Also use it for track days. Very Fast.Feb 09, 2009

Low maintenance and very reliable. A lot of fun on the corners and good get-up-and-go with excellent gas mileage.

Bought this car for $2900 cash to drive on sunny days. That's pretty cheap for a convertible. I think it may be the smallest car on the road and it feels like your driving a toy. The 5 speed stick is responsive and turns on a dime. The manual steering is a little tough until you get going. Great gas mileage. I can never remember when I last visited the gas station. I kinda like this RWD 5-speed convertible. It's 1/8 of the price of a S2000 ($1800) and lasted 2 times longer than any Mustang (212,900 miles).
but Damn, this thing is tiny. And I don't feel manly driving it.
I think the biggest shortcoming of this car is absense of an armrest on driver's door. I could also use a cupholder.Apr 03, 2008

Yeah, yeah, I'm going to get a ribbing for owning up to having one of these. But let me tell you, when you hit your mid thirty's and want a little bit of fun, you have to remember that 'The Wife' will dictate that if you can afford to waste your money on a toy car you must 'waste' an equal amount on her.

This is a fine roadster. It is the second roadster I have owned and is by far the best. My first roadster was an Austin Healey Sprite.... The Miata is so much nicer. It is a comforable car that is a true pleasure to drive. The lines on it are very pleasing to the eye. The M edition adds some nice amenities such as ac, power windows and leather seats.Dec 12, 2007

So I have a 94 Miata. Out of nowhere it won’t stay running. My battery light came on. So I took it into auto zone and they charged it fully. I put it back in and it will start just not stay running. Any ideas on what it could be?

Can an alternator charge some times and not other times ?
First time the battery was checked, Advance Auto Parts did not find any problems with the alternator. Second time, they told me that the alternator was not charging. Is that possible ? Do I need to check also for the regulator or should I change both ? When the engine is about to die, I have noticed that the ABS light starts to light on until is stays on, then the engine dies. Another mechanic told us that the problem could be a sensor ? Thanks for your advice.
