1994 Honda Civic del Sol Reviews, Pricing & Specs
Write a review
The 1994 Honda Civic del Sol introduces a number of improvements from the previous year. A more powerful engine gives the car more punch, while a passenger-side airbag and a better braking system provide more safety. This new model also handles better due to a stronger suspension system and larger wheels. Make no mistake; drivers still say it is fun to drive while being easy on the pocketbook. The quality and dependability of this automobile keep it in a "higher" price range ($4,650 to $10,000), yet in the long run - a safe purchase.

This '94 Del Sol Si has been family owned since new. It's great fun to drive. The handling exceeds that of a modern Civic coupe. The styling is excellent. I'm not sure this is better than the CRX it replaced, having owned both now, along with a Civic coupe ('07). The motor seems indestructible on the Del Sol, perhaps why it is so popular among the young tuners.Jul 02, 2014

I like how I can get from point a to point z with only one tank of gas the v tech is awesome but I would like at least a turbo pushing 9lbs at least maybe 15... or 20.. well till I would need new pistons or a block haha its a fun little race car and daily driver but if its lowered to scrape everything in this car..Feb 28, 2014

best one i ever had was a project car. put a way bigger and faster motor in it from the gimp b15 stock to an H22a DOHC VTEC motor. a 4 banger with balls and body to build on to make for a fast car.Sep 26, 2009

Slightly under powered, needs a honda B18c5 engine. On the plus side it has honda quality and will last a long time. Fun car to drive around town during the summer with the top off and the rear window down, and gets great gas mileage. Aug 07, 2009

It is a fast car. It will kill any civic or integra in town. it is hard to keep tires on this car. it handles like a charm because it is so low. it is just a 2 seater. no back seat drivers. it is a great car to street race in or take to the track.Jul 31, 2009

Well I have a LS vtec in it now and it is awesome. it is front wheel drive and it is so easy to work on it. Most del sols came with the single cam but mine came with dual cam shafts and a vtec system that is awesome.!May 01, 2009

This is a great back roads car. Not the quickest by new
car standards but can take a corner with the best of
them. Only complaints, give it a little more engine,
and dam you front wheel drive. Thats it.Dec 12, 2008

It has a 1.6 SOHC vtech, DC header into 2 1/4 inch exhuast into an aftermarket muffler (4 in.) I bought the car for $3,000 and think it was worth every dollar. It is a great car to drive and isnt the slowest. the body for the most part is good except for where this lady side swiped the car.Sep 12, 2008

performance is pretty amazing for only 130hp at the crank, I have ground contro sleeves and gas shocks so the cornering is great as well and 4 wheel disc brakes for really short stopping distance.
i really like the appearance of the mostly stock del sol, mine I recieved with way too much rice, ugly wing, ricer tails, stupid side markers, and hideous front bumper that for the most part I have not been able to afford to put the way I want it.
gets between 32 and 42MPG
I love this car and hope to keep it for a long time, this coming from someone who has had over 20 cars in the last 10 years.Jul 25, 2008

Beyond solid. After owning it 11 years and 140,000 miles, I have trouble remembering if I have even repaired anything on this vehicle...I may have replaced the alternator, but I think that was on one of my other Hondas. It could use a recharge on the AC, too, but I think that's normal for a 14 year-old second owner car. With the DOHC it is like a go cart, this little rocket surprises people all the time--my favorites to surprise are the Firebirds! I accelerate, they can't catch up, I take a corner and buh-bye. It's all they can do to get it up to 100 to catch me then finally blow by to try to make their point, a little too late; meanwhile I've put the car back on cruise control and changed CDs.
I have some performance parts on, so if I drive like a maniac I get about 14 MPG, but if I act civilized, we're at about 38 hwy.
The only reason I have not put top ratings on performance and appearance--it's just a compact car, not a Ferrari! Jul 01, 2008

i love out in the sticks, so not many people have a tuner or anything fancy, just pick up trucks.... with a full body and motor rebuild and a killer paint job to go with it, its an amazing head turner.Jun 23, 2008

Yeah, it's a chick's car, but I loved it's looks, it's faux-convertible abilities, and it's misery way of handling gasoline.Jun 13, 2008

The Del Sol was released in 1992 as the successor to the CR-X. I purchased mine in August 2003. I've put on about 20,000 miles, and nothing major has gone wrong with it, other than people crashing into it. Performance-wise, the previous owner put in a loud air filter which theoretically adds half a brake horsepower, but I don't see it. It's got VTEC, so the high revs are pretty exciting, but it's not as light as it looks. It can get from 0 to 60 in somewhere around 8-9 seconds, so it's not lighting any pavement on fire. However, that doesn't really matter. This car is fun to drive. It's low-slung for a Civic, it's got independent rear suspension, and takes bends with joy. Throwing this car around corners is a blast. Don't dare get this car with an automatic transmission. Despite the sporty costumery, this is still a Civic. Fuel economy is superb, the engine is due for another 100,000 miles, and the D16 engine used in this car remained in service with Honda Civics until the 2006 model year. It's got a spacious trunk as well, so this car serves well as a daily driver, just like the Civic. The looks have held up pretty well over time, the only awkward 90's bits are on the front end, especially the headlights, but overall pretty nice design from Honda.Mar 24, 2008

homemade turbo set-up (16g @ 10psi), stock d16z6 (for now), cheap suspension (slammed), hawk HP+ pads, fresh milano red paint with shaved emblems and side reflectors, etc. Targa top is awesome for the summerMar 19, 2008

A 1.6 with 158bhp, 8'000 revs. Can't go wrong really. Goes like a rocket, hold on to your hat when the vtec kicks in at 5'500 revs.
0-60 takes roughly 7 seconds, the amazing B16A2 never steps out of line.
Build quality gets 4/5 only because of the leaking roof and boot but it is a 14 year old car so it is to be expected.Feb 26, 2008

The squeeks and rattles get to you after about a week. The Targa top leaks whenever it rains or the snow melts. Driving this car in the snow is next to impossible because it is light, and the tires are wide. Chicks dig this car though. On a summer day, pulling off the targa top and going for a cruise to the beach is one of those picturesque driving moments.Feb 14, 2008

I bought this car a year ago, It was bone stock. I slowly modified it and decided toswap a B18a1 LS motor in it. I blew that motor up in less than 6 months. I am currently saving money to purchase a B20b and a B16 Hydro transmission. I would def. Recommend a delsol because of they are great cars. Dec 29, 2007
